Chapter 82 - Reunion

Chapter 35: Reunion

The villagers gathered in uneasy silence as Elara laid out her plan.

"We'll give it what it wants," she said firmly, "but not as it expects. An animal offering, laced with sleep draughts. Once it slumbers, we strike with everything we have. The longer we delay, the more dangerous this serpent becomes."

Division 10 exchanged grim nods. Synoh, though, kept his thoughts to himself—Fel's words about loneliness echoed in the back of his mind. He couldn't shake the feeling that slaying the beast might not be the only path.

Just as preparations began, the sound of hooves and voices carried from the village road. A small party entered—leading them was Yuta's father, broad-shouldered, scarred, with the calm air of a man who had survived countless battles. Whispers erupted among the villagers.

"An adventurer…"

"No—an S-rank…"

At his side walked Yuta, now dressed in Division 9's uniform. His eyes lit up when he spotted Synoh.

"Synoh!"

Synoh broke into a grin. The two met halfway, their fists colliding in a sharp thunk—a simple gesture, but one carrying warmth, trust, and brotherhood.

Yuta's father wasted no time. His gaze turned toward Elara.

"I've heard of your plan, Captain. But I have another idea."

Elara raised a brow. "And that is?"

"My son will tame it."

The words stunned the air. Even the villagers gasped, disbelief rippling through them. Synoh's eyes widened too, torn between pride for his friend and worry for the risk.

Elara folded her arms. "You think a creature that demands sacrifices will accept being tamed?"

Yuta's father's voice was steady. "If it can, only someone like Yuta can try. He's inherited my gift. If the serpent can be bound instead of slain, it would spare this village from endless retaliation."

The atmosphere shifted again. Division 10 exchanged uncertain looks, caught between their captain's plan of cunning battle and the sudden possibility of taming a monster of legend.

And deep down, Synoh felt Fel's quiet voice resonate: "Maybe the serpent isn't just a monster. Maybe it's waiting for someone to end its loneliness."
