Thalira froze. She glanced around, trying to find a place to hide herself. From the original body owner, she found out that humans on this planet loved to do experiments. In the apocalypse, such cases were even more rampant.
She was very self-conscious that she was now a weak mortal. Previously, she was too occupied with her thoughts that she didn't sense anyone approaching. Otherwise, she would have transformed back into her human form.
"Huh? None is here?" Evelyn mumbled as she entered the room, humming a song in a lively manner.
Thalira had hidden herself under the bed. She hadn't gotten used to her new body yet, so in her panic, the tail was sticking out slightly, looking fluffy.
Suddenly, there was a sound of something falling with a thud. Followed by Evelyn hissing, "Ouch,"
Thalira shrank her small body, crawling deeper under the bed, her eyes cautiously watching Evelyn's movement. The girl was sitting on the floor, picking up her fallen things.
The small kitten glanced at the open door, wondering whether she should dash there. Would Evelyn see her if she did that? She didn't know how strong human senses on this planet were. It was a pity that she had to train her mental power from the start. However, as she watched as Evelyn was so occupied by her scattered items, she thought that it should be feasible, right?
"Huh? What is it?" Evelyn exclaimed in surprise, making all the fur in Thalira's small body nearly stand up in alarm.
She could feel a hand trying to grab her tail, but she dodged it in time. Evelyn still found out about her existence! She gritted her teeth and used all the pitifully small spiritual energy she had gathered overnight.
"Oh!" Evelyn exclaimed again in fright, and her attention was instantly diverted by a vase falling on a window near the balcony.
Thalira took this chance to run toward the door, praying that there would be none in the dorm corridor right now. Thankfully, God was on her side this time. Because of her palm sized figure, it was easy to hide herself among the small vases outside.
She looked for any sight of humans around before shifting to her human form, sighing in exhaustion. Her hand reached out to wipe the cold sweat from her forehead and neck. Her lips had turned pale, like she had gotten sick again. With a wry smile, she thought in despondent that she needed a few more hours to rest again; until she recovered.
Dragging her body to her room, she was met with Evelyn's pair of frightened eyes. The girl clutched her chest with a shocked look on her face. Upon seeing it was Thalira, she sighed in relief. "Thalira, you scared me!"
"Do you think that our room is haunted?" Evelyn mumbled as she cleaned the broken vase. "This vase fell by itself."
Thalira cleared her throat, feeling slightly guilty. Well, it couldn't be helped because if she didn't do that, she would expose herself. Even though Evelyn and Scarlett were kind to her, none would know human's real hearts.
Especially in the apocalypse, after humans gained powers. With such a staggering number of population, the planet became more chaotic as law collapsed in many places–evilness in human's hearts became even more unbridled.
Just like the original body owner's friends who had betrayed her.
"Where have you been, Thalira?" Evelyn tilted her head. "Did you go to check on Sera? I heard that she just got discharged and has returned."
Thalira frowned. She remembered from the conversation of people in other dorm rooms earlier that this girl named Sera was hospitalized. Her eyes unwittingly glanced at the clock, finding that she had spent more than six hours just to inspect her inner world and abilities.
"I went for a walk." Thalira shook her head and explained.
"Really?" Evelyn had some doubt in her eyes and as she was about to pass by Thalira to find a trash bin outside, she became concerned about seeing Thalira's pale face.
"You look so pale, Thalira. You have just recovered from a fever. Don't overexert yourself." Evelyn began to make a fuss, making Thalira feel helpless inside.
In order to get away, she had to find a reason. "It's okay. I will get some rest now."
Thalira, who already got used to having a spacious room for herself, honestly felt a bit uncomfortable about sharing a room with others. She did appreciate her roommates' concern, but she still found it overwhelming sometimes.
Should she find a better dormitory room for one individual? Or should she use an excuse to go back to her family and rent a place?
During dinner time, she found that the second choice was not feasible. Because her eldest brother just called her, his tone was full of disdain.
"You don't need to go back." The man said, which was in line with her original intention.
Oh, now she couldn't rent a place. Unfortunately, if the student went back home, they needed to inform the Residence Hall Directors, who later confirmed it with a family member. Such a complicated procedure.
"Why?" Thalira asked in a flat tone, not understanding why a family member would agonize with each other like this. She went through the original body owner and soon found out the reason.
She hadn't completely digested the original body owner's many years of memories. After all, she hadn't experienced it herself. She could only see those from the viewpoint of a bystander, not fully understanding the emotions behind it.
This brother was outstanding, but he also looked down on his younger siblings, extremely strict with them. He was even more strict than their parents.
"Why?" He sneered, his tone rising. "You still have the cheek to ask me? You better stay there and take remedial courses. Your grades are so embarrassing! The lowest fifth out of your entire class students."
Before Thalira could respond, she heard him taking a deep breath, and said, "Don't you even dare to sneak out."
He hung up. Thalira looked at this square back thing in a daze. It had taken her a minute before she figured out how to use this thing when that cheap brother of hers called. Human technology was quite advanced. Unfortunately, that thing was rendered useless in the apocalypse.
Her mind unknowingly wandered, not taking the brother's words to heart at all. As a divine beast, she didn't know the concept of school at all. They have had inheritance since birth, and as they grew up, they would retrieve more knowledge from the inheritance.
Besides, the apocalypse was approaching. She had no interest in sitting in a class and listening to some nonsense that a divine beast wouldn't need.
Unfortunately, she found out that despite her family being rich, Thalira's pocket money was only enough for staying a few months living in the dormitory. So, as a smart divine beast, she had searched for a way to make money on this useful thing called the internet.
To gather supplies, she needed money. A lot! There was also the pressing matter of moving her dormitory to a private dorm room. The things she needed to do next would be surprising to the current human's knowledge, so it was better to find more room with privacy.
In excitement, she returned to dormitory room. However, on her way back, someone grabbed her.
She had an eerie smile on her face; her neck twisted to the side in a creepy, unnatural way. A hoarse, gravelly voice that was uncomfortable to hear came out of her pale lips. "Thalira?"
From the original body owner's memory, she found out that it was Sera.
