Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Cooper, The Mage

"Argh!!" As I yelled in frustration, I slammed my fist into the wall, leaving a small dent in the wood, while I plopped onto my bed. "Why can't I control my magic!?" Huffing in anger, I stared at the ceiling, trying to understand why I'd made no progress this past week.

Well, actually, I've made progress. I've found where my 'magic' resides in my body, but I can't control it, so I might as well have made no progress. Erupting on my bed, I flail my arms and legs aggressively before stopping as I take a breath to calm myself; standing up, I hop off my bed and exit my room, entering the kitchen to find a midnight snack while avoiding my parents' room. They were both young, so they were sexually active, and I had no desire to hear them any more than I had to.

Grabbing a rice cake, I sat on the table and quietly ate it while trying to ponder what I was doing wrong, though I just had no idea what I was doing, so I sighed in frustration. "Maybe I'll just ask old Cho? Probably wasted effort, but I might as well try." I muttered softly while returning to my room, hearing faint moans, grunts, and squeaking from my parents' room.

Falling asleep in bed, I awoke to the sound of that annoying rooster that I wanted nothing more than to strangle to death, and assisted my slightly exhausted Dad with our morning farm work. By the time I was finally free to visit Cho, it was midday, and like usual, it was an annoying hassle to even speak with him as he liked to constantly dismiss me, especially now since he seemed upset with me for eating that crystal.

"C'mon Cho! Just tell me how to use my magic, and I'll never talk to your old ass again! Please!" I pleaded with all my strength as I held onto Cho's leg, preventing him from walking up the stairs. "Urgh, fine, you foolish brat! If you promise never to speak with me again, I will tell you how to use magic!" Stated Cho sternly as he glared at me while shaking his leg, trying to fling me off, which he eventually did, causing me to hit the ceiling, but I couldn't care less right now.

"I promise on my life! Now tell me!" I said firmly while sitting on the stairs, eagerly awaiting him to teach me. "Tsk. To cast a spell, a mage must clearly visualize the desired effect and focus their magical energy towards it… It's as simple as that. If you want to infuse yourself with magical energy like what the Ancient Magic says, you must visualize yourself infusing magic into your body." Stated Cho in annoyance as he rubbed his long beard while looking at me, causing me to tilt my head in confusion.

"That's it?" "Yes. That's it. Now, leave me alone." Rubbing my head, I hesitantly nodded before walking down the stairs and exiting Cho's house. I was skeptical of his explanation, but I figured I'd try… If I didn't manage to use magic, I'd return to Cho's residence; after all, he didn't keep his end of the deal.

Heading to the largest tree in the village, I stood at its base and punched it, causing me to hiss in pain as I held my fist. "Fuck, that hurts!" Rubbing my hand, I created another fist and visualized myself using Indestructible Magic before punching the tree, only to drop to my knees while clutching my bleeding hand.

"Cooper, what are you doing?" Raising my head, I glanced at Savanah, who was three years older than me and a cute red-head little girl; she loved being around me since she's the second youngest in the village, and I essentially made her a big sister, which she seemed to love.

"Trying to learn magic, Savannah." "Magic? Are you visiting Oldman Cho? I told you to stop visiting him; he's rude." Savannah frowned as she placed her hands on her hips and looked at me, though I just waved my hand before focusing on the tree. "I promised him I'd never visit him if he taught me magic, and he did. So you don't need to worry, Savannah." Glancing at Savannah, I punched the tree, only to bite my lip as I barely resisted a grunt of pain.

"Well, good; as your elder sister, it's my job to ensure you're safe." Savannah said firmly as she proudly nodded while I rolled my eyes, though since her worries came from a place of love, I simply nodded while punching the tree again.

"Also, punching the tree isn't g-" "Savannah, could you please be quiet? I need to focus." I cut off Savannah mid-speech and looked at her, causing her to pout before weakly nodding. Inwardly sighing, I stepped forward and pushed her shoulder, forcing her onto her butt. "Can you watch, though? I think I'll do better if my Big sister watches me and cheers me on from the sidelines." I asked with a slight smile while looking at Savanah, who beamed brighter than the sun as she nodded with sparkling eyes.

Awkwardly coughing, I glanced at Savannah before shifting my focus to the tree, repeatedly punching it while visualizing Indestructible Magic; however, for twenty minutes, all I did was injure my hand and leave a bloody mark on the tree.

"Argh! I freaking hate magic!" I yelled angrily and instinctively punched the tree, only for it to shake violently as I dug my entire fist into the tree trunk. Widening my eyes, I removed my fist from the tree, stumbling onto the ground, but I quickly stood up while constantly glancing between my fist and the four or five-inch deep hole in the tree, only for Savannah to embrace me while jumping in joy.

"Hahaha, you did it, Cooper! You used magic!" Yelled Savannah loudly while I reciprocated the hug as I was just as happy, or even happier than her. Once we calmed down, I remembered how I felt just before I punched the tree.

'I felt a comfortable warmth throughout my whole body, and then bam, I punched a hole in the tree.' I deeply pondered while looking intensely at the hole in the tree, only for Savannah to grab my hand, dragging me to the village. "C'mon, let us tell the village! Everyone will be excited to know we've got a mage!" Stated Savannah with an eager grin as she ran towards the center of the village, forcing me to keep up with her.

However, the fun and excitement wouldn't last for long.

Night eventually came after the little celebration with all the villagers, so we returned to the house with me on my Dad's shoulder.

"Fufu, I always knew you'd be someone amazing, but I wouldn't expect you to become a Mage at 5 years of age." Said Mom with a proud smile as she glanced at me atop Dad's shoulder, causing me to also raise my head in pride.

"Yeah, and you have birthed him, Lucy; you must have a special body." "Heh, you must've always known that was the case, given all those years you courted me, Darling." As Mom and Dad kissed, I looked at the night sky, eager for morning to arrive so I could continue practicing.

Once we returned home, Mom put me in bed, but it was impossible for me to sleep, not with all the excitement, so after a few minutes, I sat on my bed and focused, visualizing Indestructible Magic, and although it took several tries and a few minutes, I eventually felt that comfortable warmth spread through my body, causing me to grin as I was now able to sense how much stronger I became.

Approaching the wall, I punched right beside the small dent I had made earlier today, yet unlike before, I punched right through the wall with ease, causing me to grin in joy. The joy was short-lived when I heard my parents making out in their bedroom. "Why do they sound so clear? It's like they're in this room with me." I said quietly with a frown, only for my eyes to widen.

"Wait! My senses were also enhanced!?" As I exclaimed in shock, I quickly realized I was seeing in the dark, and I could even see a caterpillar outside my window in the grass.

However, while I was practically jumping for joy at how amazing the Ancient Magic, Indestructible Magic, was, I suddenly heard faint growls and screams. Frowning, I opened my window and looked at the village, only for my eyes to widen in fear as I saw a massive horde of beasts rampaging through the city, causing destruction, death, and mayhem.

"What the?" As I looked on in horror, watching as the beasts tore through houses with ease and ripped the villagers to shreds, I quickly covered my mouth and fell to the floor while the comfortable warmth vanished. 'I-I've got to tell Mom and Dad!' Scrambling to my feet, I quickly opened the door and ran toward my parents' room.

(Note: As one knows, if you write a Fairy Tail Fanfic, the MC must have a sad past... Or so I've been told.)
