Chapter 153: The Deposed Roger
Time: 11:30 AM – Quidditch Pitch
"Whoa! The match begins with Roger Davis of Ravenclaw snatching the Quaffle—but what's he doing? He suddenly pulls back… and the Quaffle's caught by Henry, his own teammate!" announced Lee Jordan, voice full of disbelief. "Not that anyone was pressuring him... Why pull a trick play this early?"
"Jordan!" Professor McGonagall warned from the staff stand.
"Sorry, Professor," Lee said quickly, before continuing, "Henry—Ravenclaw's blond powerhouse—is charging upfield at top speed! He makes a slick pass to Phoenix—the second-year Chaser with potential!"
"But wait—what's Roger Davis doing now? He's diving toward the Hufflepuff Keeper, but—he doesn't have the Quaffle!"
"Phoenix tosses it downward—Davis grabs it—but the Hufflepuff Keeper, Pete, blocks it with a beautiful volley!"
---
Up in the air, Harry Potter felt like he was losing his mind.
Maybe Lee Jordan had decided to go easy on him because of the Weasley twins, trying not to put pressure on a first-year, but this pressure wasn't coming from expectations—it was coming from his own team.
The moment the match began, Harry had already spotted a glint of gold flashing behind a Hufflepuff Beater—the Golden Snitch! He dove in to chase it, but just then, Roger Davis cut in front of him.
"Harry, remember the zigzag! Watch for Bludgers!" Roger called out, completely oblivious to what Harry was actually doing.
And it wasn't just Roger.
The two Ravenclaw Beaters—Harry didn't even know their names until today—were playing as if they themselves were Seekers with clubs. They chased the Bludgers aggressively, sometimes hitting them back into empty air, other times straight into Harry's path.
Rather than clearing the field or protecting teammates, they became obstacles—his own teammates sabotaging his game.
Even worse, Harry observed Roger's bizarre strategy: while the Hufflepuff defense was still distant, Roger threw the Quaffle to Henry, who had multiple defenders closing in. After a struggle, Henry passed it to Phoenix, who then—on Roger's signal—lobbed it downward toward Davis, even though Roger was already marked by the Keeper.
Phoenix had a clear shot. But Roger wanted the goal—and the glory—for himself.
The result? The play failed. Again.
Harry turned, trying to spot the Snitch again, only for Roger to sweep in front of him yet again.
"You need to fly in zigzags!" Roger shouted.
---
"What is Roger Davis doing?" Lee Jordan said aloud. "Harry Potter nearly had the Snitch, but—wait, is Roger blocking his own Seeker?"
A roar came from the Hufflepuff stands—loud cheers for Roger Davis.
Roger smiled broadly, waving as though they were Ravenclaws cheering for him, flashing all eight of his front teeth in a proud grin.
"Hufflepuff scores!" Lee added pointedly.
---
"Harry Potter, this is your fault! You ignored my tactics, and now I can't focus properly!" Roger snapped mid-air.
"I'm—sorry?" Harry responded, blinking, but he couldn't even finish the sentence.
A Bludger came screaming across the field and—BANG!—hit Roger square in the side.
He tumbled through the air, falling fast, but Professor McGonagall flicked her wand in time. The grass beneath Roger exploded upward, forming a thick cushion of vines and leaves that broke his fall.
"DENNIS! Are you out of your mind? That was aimed at me!" Roger roared from the ground.
"Damn right I aimed at you!" Dennis, one of the Ravenclaw Beaters, shouted back. "I've had enough. I'm done. I'm not playing with you anymore."
Up above, Harry felt a wave of relief wash over him. He had just learned Dennis's name—yet at this moment, he might be Harry's new favorite teammate.
"You blind or something?!" Dennis continued.
Roger turned to argue further—but the stands erupted into cheers.
Lee Jordan's voice was muffled by the roar, but Roger turned to look—just in time to see:
Harry Potter.
Hovering one foot off the ground, holding the Golden Snitch in his outstretched hand. Its silver wings shimmered between his fingers as it tried to escape.
---
Three minutes earlier...
Dennis and Woody, the two Ravenclaw Beaters, had settled into a rhythm. The Hufflepuff team was well-organized and disciplined, but with Seekers like Harry, sometimes the best thing a Beater could do was get out of the way.
They hadn't expected Harry to lock onto the Snitch so quickly, and in their zeal to manage the Bludgers, they'd unwittingly blocked him more than once.
But after Dennis heard Lee Jordan call out Roger's interference, he snapped.
He saw another Bludger near Roger—and took the shot.
A moment later, Harry caught the Snitch.
---
The Ravenclaw stands exploded. Students rushed the pitch, lifting Harry into the air.
Roger, dazed but recovering, stumbled toward them.
"Harry," Roger said smugly, "you do realize this was just good luck, right? What we're doing here is real strategy—real Ravenclaw tactics. Intelligence over brawn!"
"You've got to learn from me. I used two advanced tactics right at the start—nearly scored too! If you hadn't ignored the zigzag, I wouldn't have been distracted, and we wouldn't have conceded that first goal."
Roger was still talking, but he didn't notice the silent stares around him.
---
"What did you just say, Davis?" came a voice.
A tall, thin student stepped out of the crowd. It was Johnny, the true team captain, who'd been sidelined due to an injury but still watched the match from the stands.
"Why the back pass at the beginning? Henry was closer to the goal than you were. This is Quidditch, not a stage play."
"And when I thought you were actually trying to support Phoenix—what did you do? You pulled the Pokrov Lure, trying to bait the ball back to yourself when Phoenix had a clear shot!"
"And don't even start on the zigzag nonsense. Harry's an excellent Seeker. Dennis and Woody kept the Bludgers under control. All he needed was room to move. You were the problem."
Johnny stepped closer.
"You blocked your own Seeker. You micromanaged every play. You didn't lead this team—you used it as your spotlight."
Roger flushed. "That's not true! Henry and Phoenix just didn't cooperate with me properly. My tactics work!"
Johnny's expression hardened. "Even if they don't like you, they still tried to play fair. But you turned this entire match into your personal stage."
"You were only acting as temporary captain. And frankly—after today—you're not even qualified for that."
The rest of the team gathered behind Johnny.
"Roger," he said, voice low but firm, "Quidditch is about teamwork and winning, not self-indulgence. That's my last piece of advice to you."
Roger stood there, stunned—alone.
