Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Unconscious

Chapter 4: Unconscious

Even after obtaining the USB, the lawyer showed no intention of letting her go.

His true nature was nothing like the polished image he had carefully crafted in the media.

If he had already gone this far, killing her to silence her wouldn't be out of the question.

The muzzle of the gun pressed even harder against her temple.

"Say it loud. Admit that you're the one holding the USB."

Hoàng Hải Vân heard the unmistakable click of the gun being cocked.

Death was just a trigger pull away.

Fear gripped her, but she still managed to ask, "And once I say it, I die anyway, right?"

The lawyer's voice was calm, almost casual.

"The one approaching us is a serial killer. He's the one responsible for the recent murders. All you have to do is confirm you have the USB—make sure he hears it. Once he gets close enough, my men will shoot him down. He deserves to die. You don't need to feel guilty. Afterward, I'll let you go."

The gun pressed deeper into her skin, making her temple throb in pain.

She could only hope that this demon of a lawyer truly wouldn't kill an officer of the law.

Swallowing her fear, she raised her voice:

"I have the USB you're looking for."

At that moment, a group of men dressed in black emerged from the shadows behind the approaching boy.

The demon lawyer immediately stowed his gun and stepped back.

"Little brother, since you're here, she's yours to deal with as you see fit."

The young man quickened his pace toward her, moving so swiftly it was as if he were gliding.

Only now, standing close, did she realize—he wasn't as boyish as his face suggested.

He was significantly taller than her.

For a moment, he simply stared at her in silence before turning to his men and ordering:

"Don't hurt her."

Then he reached out, his veined hand brushing against her face, his fingers long and smooth like a sculptor's chisel.

His voice was low, almost entranced.

"You're beautiful. Just my type."

Disgust rose in her chest.

This little punk—barely out of diapers—and already harassing women?

She opened her mouth to curse at him, but before she could—

A deafening explosion.

Lightning, followed by gunfire.

By instinct, she lunged forward, intending to shield him.

But she wasn't fast enough.

He was faster.

Using his entire body, he enveloped her, propelling them both out of the bullet's path.

She didn't understand—why was he saving her?

Of all people, why would he risk his life for her?

As they crashed onto the pavement, the impact sent a jolt of pain through her skull.

Her vision blurred.

And then—

Darkness.
