Chapter 45 - Whispers of the Bloodstained Notebook

Felix found his younger sister rummaging through their deceased parents' belongings. Everything was scattered across the floor.

"Jen, what are you looking for?" he asked calmly.

"Brother..." Jenny mumbled, pausing and slowly turning to him. She had just noticed that Felix had returned home.

"What is it you're searching for?" he repeated gently.

"Brother," she said hesitantly. "I saw something from the past."

Felix furrowed his brow. "What do you mean?"

"A woman was shot... and she was holding an old notebook. But what stood out was that the notebook was stained with blood."

Notebook? Woman? Blood?

Something flickered in Felix's memory. He could almost picture a pair of hands clutching a blood-soaked notebook—but the image was fragmented, just beyond reach.

Jenny's gasp brought him back to the present. She had picked up a photograph among their parents' things. Felix walked closer.

It was a picture of a group of young women, smiling happily.

"That's her, brother. That's the woman I saw in my vision. She was the one who got shot while holding the notebook. I'm sure of it," Jenny said, staring intensely at him.

Could she be one of Mom's classmates?

Felix turned the photo over, and his heart sank. The name written on the back was unmistakably their mother's. But what shocked him most was another name—her friend was Ellese, Fuego's former wife and the mother of Jenny.

Felix felt a strange pull, as though he were being drawn into another time and place. Still gripping the photo, he found himself somewhere else.

"Help me."

The whisper echoed through the silence, and he saw two shadowy figures in the distance. He followed them and recognized one of them.

"Mom..." Felix murmured.

He couldn't interact—only observe. That was the painful truth of these visions. He was a mere witness to the past.

"What help do you need from me?" his mother asked, her face full of concern.

The woman cried into her hands before speaking again.

"Help us escape... from the nightmare I'm living in."

"Nightmare? What's going on?" Rizalyn asked, her voice firm.

"Please, Riza. Help me and my children. Take us away from him."

Felix clenched his fists. The woman was Bella—Ellese. And her words suggested something deeper, more sinister.

"Calm down, Bella. I can't help if you don't tell me what's really going on with your husband and children."

Bella looked torn, her voice trembling.

"If anything happens to me, please… don't blame my husband."

Rizalyn's face showed nothing but confusion.

"The man I thought would protect me… the family I dreamed of… all of it was a lie. Behind his good name lies nothing but greed."

Felix felt his breath catch.

"What kind of greed are you talking about?" Rizalyn asked.

Bella swallowed hard. "He's a respected mayor of Regondo, but that's just a mask. He's been trafficking drugs, involved in illegal black-market operations. He told me if I kept quiet and obedient, nothing would happen. But I'm terrified."

Rizalyn remained silent, sensing there was more.

"I pretended not to see it. I tried to go back to how things were. Until he brought me to the warehouse..."

Felix felt his stomach twist.

"Warehouse?" Rizalyn repeated cautiously.

"On Fuego's land. A massive warehouse stands there..."

"What's in the warehouse?" Rizalyn asked, her voice low.

Bella hesitated.

"That's where the real horror happens," she said, shaking. "They're not just being killed—they're slaughtered like animals. I was taken there once. I saw it all."

Felix's blood ran cold.

"There, my sanity shattered. I heard the cries of young girls, begging for help. They looked at me with pleading eyes. I wanted to help—but I was too scared of my husband. I heard their screams... again and again, as they were tortured."

She broke down, sobbing into her hands.

"My conscience torments me every day. I can't pretend anymore. What if my children end up like them? I'm scared, Riza. I don't know who else to turn to."

Felix saw his mother wrap her arms around Bella, comforting her as best she could.

The vision faded. He was back in their home, still holding the photograph.

"Brother?" Jenny asked quietly.

Felix looked at her, his face pale but full of determination.

"They were friends, Jenny. Our parents... they weren't victims of an accident. They were murdered."

Jenny's eyes widened.

"Ellese... she asked for our parents' help."

Felix let out a short, bitter laugh. The web of truth was tightening. There was no running from it now.

He stood tall.

"I'm going to continue the investigation. Jenny, call Thalia."

Greg appeared behind them, watching in silence.

"Sis, Bro... Ellese told us not to get involved any further."

Felix exhaled, already expecting that warning.

"Really, Ellese? We're already involved. We'll keep going... until we uncover the truth."

Someone gripped his arm. It was his cousin.

"Don't let your emotions control you now, Felix."

He heard the voice clearly. But his resolve had already been set.
