Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: First Use Of Light

Other than the core abilities which almost every living being in the world had including human beings, the core of a person could also contain a certain set of abilities unique to their particular race.

For fairies, one of the abilities unique to them was the light element.

Absorbing the power of the sun and nature simultaneously to create a faintly golden light, the light element of fairies was tied with the vampires' blood manipulation as one of the most versatile abilities.

Being an ability exclusive to fairies, meant that most fairies could use it as early as their first birthdays and any fairy who still couldn't use the light element after reaching five years old might as well be a defect.

Over the years there has only even been one defective fairy in the name of Axel Melborn.

Despite being able to use his water ability to a decent level, he was never able to figure out how to use the light element.

He wasn't able to use it when he was five and even after reaching seventeen years of age, he still wasn't able to use it.

He tried everything and even followed the training pattern of his siblings to no avail.

This was the reason why he couldn't believe what he was seeing at the moment.

"My light element is unlocked?" He muttered.

"Huh?" Vesper uttered as she walked into the area with a cup of water.

'So, how do I use it?' Axel said inwardly as he raised his right hand.

Vesper's eyes suddenly widened in shock as she saw his hands suddenly receive a faint golden glow.

"You can't be serious."

Axel swung his hand forward at that moment, suddenly releasing an unintended light slash toward Vesper.

For vampires, any attack of the light element was something not to joke around with and that was because of the sole reason that a considerable part of the light drew its strength from the sun.

Not wanting that to touch her, Vesper reacted quickly, releasing a blood slash of similar strength to cancel out the light slash.

The attacks cancelling out each other made a bit of noise like a brick slamming into a wall.

"What was that?" Axel asked, quickly turning left and then right.

He couldn't see, so he could only wonder while waiting for an answer from Vesper.

"Hmm."

'He doesn't even know what he did.'

With that thought in mind, a warm smile suddenly found its way to Vesper's face as she moved closer to him.

"You don't know what just happened?" She said as she dropped the cup of water on the table before sitting beside him on the couch.

"What? How am I supposed to know? I'm blind." He retorted.

"Yeah, that's true." She nodded subtly. "Too bad you couldn't see your first use of the light element with your own eyes."

"What did you just say?"

Axel felt his heart leap in joy at that moment as his face stretched with a wide grin.

'It actually worked.'

"You're not pulling my legs, right?" He asked. It was just too good to be true so he had to confirm.

"Do you really think I would be in the mood to joke about something like this in your current condition?" Vesper retorted.

"I don't know, you tend to be unpredictable most of the time."

Vesper couldn't believe it but she actually felt offended by those words.

"Unbelievable." She sighed before rolling her eyes.

"What?"

"Looks like you're feeling better since you're in the mood to joke." She said before lifting his right hand.

After that, she picked up the glass of water and placed it in his hand making sure he had a grip on it before letting go.

"Here, a cup of water, find your mouth yourself." She said before getting up to start heading toward the kitchen.

She stopped after just a few steps and turned around to see him taking a sip from the cup.

"Of course, anybody can easily find their mouth with their eyes closed." She smiled.

'He's blind now, but it might just be temporary.' She thought to herself. 'Yes, it must definitely be temporary.'

Compared to the other cities of the kingdom of Mystonia, the capital city, which was also named Mystonia, was a cut above the rest.

The capital city was the only city that had fully incorporated beast crystal core-powered technology in almost every corner of the city.

Every standard household had ditched candle and lamp lights for crystal lights which were powered by beast crystal cores. It was safe to say that the city of Mystonia was the brightest at night.

Then they were the crystal-core powered wagons used for getting around the city. They happened to be more efficient than the wagons, which relied on horses to get around, and because of that, there were very few horse wagons in the city.

Another thing that also made Mystonia look better than the other cities was the buildings; the city was the only one with multiple buildings that had as many five floors and above. These types of buildings were now being commonly built as there were now crystal-core powered lifts to easily get people from one floor to the other.

The city of Mystonia had numerous tall buildings used for various purposes. However, the tallest building in the city was one that was a building surrounded by very tall and reinforced walls.

The royal building in the royal court was the home to the vampire king and his numerous family.

Having as many as eight floors, the building was reinforced with a special kind of concrete leaving the exterior with a little bit of roughness.

With night already upon the land, a figure could be seen standing on the balcony on the highest floor of the building.

He had very broad shoulders, a bulky chest and a pair of bulky arms hiding behind the black robe he was wearing.

His eyes were a pair of green emeralds, his hair dark and his beards neatly trimmed.

He seemed to be holding a glass filled with a red liquid, most likely blood as he stared far into the shining city.

With his gaze still not shifting away from the city, he let out a sigh before taking a sip from his glass.

"What happens to be bothering your majesty?"

Suddenly appearing behind him was a woman with a slender but beautiful figure; she was wearing a thin, sleeveless white dress probably most suited for bedtime.

Her long dark hair was brushed against her back as he moved closer to her, and her pair of brown eyes smiled along with her face.

As soon as she got to him, she slowly slipped the glass of blood off his hand to take a sip.

"Are you worried about the light show we witnessed tonight?" She asked before leaning on the railing as she spun the glass in her hand.

"Yes." The vampire king nodded. "That was a golden light at its peak, there's only one person capable of pulling that off."

"You mean the fairy goddess?" She responded before taking another sip from the glass. "But hasn't Lumena ceased to exist for over thirty centuries?"

"Being dead doesn't mean there's not a way to return and if that happens, it won't be a good thing for us vampires. That divine light shall not be allowed to descend on this world again."

"Hmmm." The queen smiled. "So, are you planning to hunt down the person linked to what happened last night?"

"That's the only solution."

"Hmmm."

"What?"

"I'm just wondering if you would still follow through with those words if you knew your precious daughter, Vesper, was somehow involved in this?"

"Huh?"
