It shouldn't be difficult for Captain America and Bucky to fly a plane. After all, both of them were special forces, and proficiency with various modes of transportation was an essential skill.
However, someone still had to operate it, and with a flight-capable being like Vision—easily a level-seven threat—he was undoubtedly the biggest obstacle to their plan.
"No, you go fly the plane,"
"You two."
Just as Bucky was about to leave, someone roared overhead—it was Falcon.
No one knew where he got the confidence to use his abilities to block Vision.
"You go. The rest of us stay behind and hold them back."
Hawkeye's judgment was indeed sharp. In this situation, it was impossible for everyone to retreat together. Instead of being locked in a stalemate here, it was better to leave a few people behind to stall the enemy while one or two carried out the objective.
…
In the sky, the War Machine blasted Hawkeye aside and flew off again, then promptly started slacking once more…
"Hey, I have to say,"
"Even though I hate to admit it, someone's going to die if we want to win this fight."
Hawkeye pulled an arrow from his quiver and aimed once again at Tony and War Machine. Saying this felt like he was agreeing with Falcon's earlier words.
Captain America frowned, said nothing, and lowered his head in thought.
"This isn't a real fight, Steve."
"…So what's the plan, Sam?"
In the end, Captain America compromised and accepted Falcon's proposal. No matter what, he didn't want to see anyone die.
"We need a big guy to draw their attention."
Behind them, the War Machine was still chasing Falcon. After saying this, Falcon abruptly changed his flight path to evade another attack.
"Hey, hey, everyone,"
"I've got a big one—but it won't last very long."
In the distance, Scott suddenly chimed in after overhearing his teammates.
"Wait for my signal, then run as fast as you can."
"If I get torn in half, don't come back to save me."
As he spoke, Scott sprinted straight toward the center of the battlefield.
Bucky's forehead twitched at those words, his grin stiffening as if already picturing Ant-Man being ripped apart…
"Wouldn't he be tearing himself in half?"
Barton muttered suspiciously.
"Are you sure about this, Scott?"
"No problem. I've done this experiment plenty of times."
"One of them was in the lab, and then I just passed out…"
As he spoke, Scott charged straight past the War Machine beside him.
"I can do it, I can do it, I can do it…"
"Ward sent a guest…"
Scott ran while muttering to himself, his thoughts drifting to who knows what—at some point, the Avengers had clearly had another conversation…
As the War Machine flew past a shipping container, Scott—still in his insect-sized state—leapt up with perfect timing and latched onto the War Machine's back.
Scott fiddled with the controls on the Ant-Man suit's forearm display for a moment. Then, the instant he pressed a button, his body began to expand explosively.
Ten meters.
Twenty meters.
Thirty meters.
In the blink of an eye, he grew larger than the planes parked at the airport. No—at this point, those planes looked like toys in front of him.
The War Machine immediately sensed something was wrong and hurriedly boosted his engines, trying to escape.
But Scott gave him no chance. He had been attached to him just moments ago, and now one massive hand shot out and grabbed the War Machine's leg. No matter how far the engine throttle was pushed, it was useless.
"Oh ho ho ho ho—ha ha ha ha!"
Seeing his success, Ant-Man burst into wild laughter. The sound was so bizarre it was even more obscene than Rhino's.
"Oh shit… my God…"
Little Spider-Man couldn't help blurting out when he saw this.
"Well, the little guy's getting bigger… he's really getting bigger!!!"
Rhodes finally gave up struggling and informed his teammates through the comms, then quickly stabilized his armor. Since escape was impossible, it was better to conserve power. Otherwise, running the engines at maximum output would burn them out completely.
"This is the signal…"
Not only Iron Man's side was stunned by the scene—Captain America and Bucky were as well. The two stepped out from behind the container, staring blankly at Ant-Man. When had they ever seen something like this?
"Nice job, Ant-Man…"
Falcon couldn't help praising him.
Looking at the enlarged Scott, he bent slightly and mimicked a shot-put motion, clearly preparing to throw the War Machine.
"Hey, hey—give Rhodes back to me!"
If he got thrown like that, not only would the War Machine armor be wrecked, but the person inside would be in serious trouble too…
Boom—
…
Just as Tony was about to rush in to grab someone, a pair of huge feet suddenly flew over and kicked him away. Falcon had taken advantage of the moment and ambushed Tony.
The War Machine was flung away at the same time.
Seeing this, Vision hurried forward to intervene, but another figure suddenly streaked in—it was little Spider-Man.
"…I'll deal with him."
Little Spider-Man shot webbing onto the flying War Machine, desperately trying to drag him into the parked airplane on the ground.
However, the inertia from Scott's throw was far too great. Little Spider-Man's feet carved two deep grooves into the ground, yet he still couldn't stop it. Fortunately, a truck lay ahead. He kicked against the overturned vehicle, bracing himself, and finally managed to stabilize with tremendous effort.
Scott, of course, wasn't about to let things end so easily. A bus happened to be nearby, and he kicked it hard, sending it flying straight toward little Spider-Man.
Boom—
Another dark figure rushed in. Just as the bus was about to smash into little Spider-Man, it was sliced apart like rotten scrap metal. The rescuer was Black Panther.
Seeing Captain America and Bucky rushing toward the plane, Black Panther immediately gave chase.
But Scott clearly had no intention of letting them go. He grabbed an airplane and hurled it straight at them.
In midair, Hawkeye and Tony were still entangled. Seeing the situation, Tony kicked Hawkeye away with both feet—only to run straight into a flying wing.
Fortunately, Tony's armor was highly maneuverable. One engine instantly ramped to maximum output, bringing him to a sudden halt. He twisted his body midair, changed direction, and shot upward. The massive wing exploded the moment his feet touched the ground.
