She started looking around and collecting books to learn more about fighting, magic and enemies she might stumble upon.
While she was at it, she realised that she had a good memory. Meaning she could study a lot about things without worrying about forgetting them.
After collecting enough books to study, she sat down on a table at the library and started flipping pages. She couldn't understand a word.
"Oh drat. I forgot that I couldn't read..." She said as she sighed in frustration.
"This couldn't get any worse.." she said then stood up from the place. She couldn't just give up then. .
It wasn't a lovely fantasy world she was living in. It was reality. No one would help a commoner, would they?
As Evelyn got outside of the library, she saw a fancy carriage passing by. "Another noble person. Such luxury they live in." She said, scratching her head a bit.
Then she looked the other way and walked. Little did she knew, that the same carriage would change her fate later.
After she was done walking around, she went back to the place she usually sleeps. It was a abandoned house, freezing cold at winter, and really hot at summer.
As she prepared to sleep, she heard a noise outside the house. She peeked outside to see the same carriage as before. There were some people around standing by and talking. After what it felt like a minute, she heard a faint knock on the door.
She slowly walked towards the door. She opened it to see a man in a suit. Looked like a noble, which piqued her interest. Why would a noble be there at that time? Did she do anything wrong? She had many questions in her mind.
The man looked down at her sternly before walking away to one of the other people. After that, another person came to talk. This time it was a woman. Evelyn looked at her with confused look on her face. "Hello, I am Ashley. And we're here to inspect something." She said. Evelyn tilted her head a bit.
"Why?" She asked. "Because we have sensed something unusual mana flowing from this place for a while. It's quite dangerous." Said the woman. "If it is okay with you, can we investigate the place" she asked.
Evelyn nodded in approval. "Yes, of course." She said. Then Ashley gave a nod to the people and they stated coming in one by one. The house wasn't that big and it was just an abandoned house. Evelyn hadn't decorated it whatsoever.
After a while of searching here and there, they found nothing that was infested with mana. Everything was pretty normal. Ashley looked at Evelyn suspiciously. "If you don't mind, I have some questions for you." She said.
Evelyn nodded in response. "I don't mind." She said. "So, for how long have you been here?" She asked. "For.. I think for about two to three months." Evelyn said. Ashley stared at Evelyn for a while. "Do you remember anything before that?" She asked.
"Sorry, but no.. I don't remember anything. The only thing I remember is that I was in a dumpster when I gained consciousness. I don't particularly remember anything before that.." Evelyn said. Ashley grew more and more suspicious after hearing that.
About 5 months ago, a Duke had threw away his illegitimate daughter after she had "died". Her existence wasn't declared to anyone, only the family of the duke knew. But someone had leaked the information. Many didn't believe that rumor, since the duke was a well known figure in the society, and was a great mage himself. But had a secret affair with a maid in the house. But nonetheless, it was just a rumor and it might've been false.
Ashley stared at Evelyn for a while before saying something. "You are coming with us. No buts, and now why's. I'll explain later." She said.
Evelyn was shocked to hear such news. She was confused, and had mixed feelings. But she had no choice but to go. Evelyn simply nodded.
Ashley walked towards the man, and whispered something to him. The man nodded and Ashley came back to Evelyn. "Alright. Now that you know where you're going, get ready and pack your bags." She said. But Evelyn didn't have anything so she just stayed quietly.
Ashley took her to the carriage and made her sit inside. It was quite fancy and elegant. Evelyn was fascinated, and was kinda of happy. "Huh....I feel like it's a dream.." she thought. Ashley noticed how Evelyn was feeling. Evelyn's excitement was plastered all over her face.
