The silence of the midnight fog was violently torn asunder by a terrifying convergence of dark magic and screaming steel. The dense, ancient pines of the mountain pass shuddered under the shockwaves of continuous mana detonations. What was supposed to be a peaceful, moonlit return from the Imperial Palace had transformed within seconds into a blood-drenched nightmare. The lavish, gold-trimmed royal carriage belonging to the Duchy of Leonhart lay in complete, unrecognizable ruin. Its heavy oak doors were splintered into kindling, its crushed velvet cushions drenched in crimson blood, and its shattered wheels burning with purple, cursed flames.
At the absolute center of this chaotic devastation stood Duke Leonhart.
He was no longer the composed, terrifyingly stoic war hero known throughout the empire; he was a unleashed force of primordial rage. In his left arm, he cradled the limp, dangerously pale body of Duchess Elina. The black, jagged wound on her back—inflicted by a dark assassin's cursed blade meant for little Maria—was pulsating with a sickening, venomous black light. The dark curse was spreading rapidly across her delicate skin, black spider-web veins crawling up her slender neck toward her pale face. Every weak, shallow breath she took felt like a agonizing struggle against the pull of the grave.
Holding her tightly against his heart, Leo felt a cold, suffocating terror he had never experienced on any battlefield. The man who had faced dragon-blooded warlords and conquered northern ice demons without shedding a single tear was now trembling violently, his chest heaving with suffocating despair.
"Elina... open your eyes. That is a command! Look at me!" Leo's voice cracked, a horrifying mixture of raw grief and murderous rage. Tears of pure agony spilled over his blood-stained cheeks, falling onto her cold, unresponsive lips. "You promised me... You swore you wouldn't leave my side... Open your eyes!"
"Sir Brandon!" Leo's roar thundered across the valley, so laced with dense, suffocating mana that the surrounding trees vibrated and the very ground beneath his boots cracked.
Through the cloud of black smoke and flying magic blasts, Commander Brandon of the Royal Guards burst forward. His heavy steel plate armor was scorched black, dented from heavy spells, and covered in enemy blood. He cut down two cloaked assassins in a single sweeping slash before dropping down to one knee before the Duke, his breath coming in ragged, painful gasps.
"My Lord! The ambush was completely premeditated!" Brandon shouted over the roars of dark magic. "The enemy has deployed high-tier spatial concealment artifacts! Over a hundred elite dark mages and shadow assassins are surrounding the ridge! Our guards are holding the perimeter, but we are being overwhelmed!"
"I do not care about the enemy's numbers, Brandon!" Leo snapped, his crimson eyes glowing with a terrifying, demonic light that sent a shudder through the seasoned commander's spine.
Leo carefully transferred the small, sobbing figure of Maria into Brandon's arms. The poor child was traumatized, her white silk dress stained with Elina's blood. Her tiny hands clung desperately to Elina's ruined gown, her hysterical cries cutting straight through the heavy roar of battle.
"Mother! Mother, wake up! Don't let the bad men take you!" Maria sobbed, her tiny body shaking violently as Brandon pulled her away. "Father! Save Mother! Don't let her die!"
Leo pressed his forehead briefly against Maria's soft hair, his voice dropping to a low, deathly whisper that chilled the air around them. "Brandon. Take my daughter. Form an absolute, unbreakable spherical defensive array with the elite shadows behind the eastern rock formation. Activate the crest of the Red Dragon."
Brandon's eyes widened in sheer shock. "The Red Dragon Crest? But My Lord, that will drain your personal mana reserve by half to sustain the barrier!"
"Do it!" Leo bellowed, his voice echoing like thunder off the cliff sides. "If a single scratch falls upon my daughter—if a single grain of dirt touches her head—I will drag you through the depths of hell before I tear down the Imperial Capital myself. Protect Maria with your lives. I will personally butcher every living soul wearing a black robe in this forest."
"Understood, Your Grace!" Brandon roared back, pulling the crying child tightly into his embrace.
Instantly, ten shadow knights—the most elite, unseen guards of House Leonhart—stepped out from the darkness, their blades gleaming with blue aura. They surrounded Brandon and Maria, casting a dense, layered barrier of translucent steel and sacred shields as they retreated swiftly up the rocky slope toward safety.
With Maria secured, Leo turned back to Elina. He laid her down gently upon a thick bed of enchanted wolf fur in the sheltered nook of a massive granite boulder. He removed his heavy, velvet-lined cape and wrapped it securely around her shivering body.
He touched her cold cheek one last time, his thumb tracing the pale contour of her jaw. "Hold on, my love. Just a little longer. I will paint this entire valley with the blood of your attackers, and then I will carry you home."
When Duke Leonhart stood up and turned back toward the dark forest, every trace of human warmth vanished from his existence. The ambient temperature in the ravine plummeted instantly. The air turned heavy, suffocatingly dense with a aura of pure, unadulterated annihilation. He drew his Crimson Blade—an ancient, heirloom sword forged from dragon heartstring—and its metal flared into a terrifying, towering pillar of blood-red fire.
While the mountain pass devolved into a blood-soaked hellscape, Elina's consciousness was drifting through an entirely different realm.
The burning, excruciating pain of the dark poison on her back slowly began to fade, replaced by a strange, weightless numbness. The horrific sound of clashing swords, the crackle of dark magic explosions, and Leo's desperate, heart-wrenching screams slowly receded into absolute silence.
It felt as though she was falling backward into a deep, endless ocean, sinking through cold, dark waters—until suddenly, she broke through the surface into brilliant light.
Elina opened her eyes and gasped.
She was no longer lying in the mud of the mountain pass. She was standing upright in an infinite, breath-taking celestial sanctuary.
Beneath her feet was a boundless expanse of calm, mirror-like water that didn't wet her shoes, perfectly reflecting a vast, endless night sky above. Billions of bright, shimmering stars, swirling nebulae of purple and sapphire light, and massive glowing constellations slowly rotated overhead in a majestic cosmic dance. Towering marble pillars draped in glowing silver ivy floated effortlessly in the air, leading toward a grand, central altar carved from translucent starlight.
There was no wind. No cold, no heat, no pain. Only a profound, ancient, and absolute stillness that felt older than creation itself.
"Where... where am I?" Elina whispered, looking down at her hands. They were translucent, radiating a faint, beautiful white light. "Did I die? Is this the afterlife?"
"You stand within the Sanctum of the Eternal Loom, my child," a voice echoed.
It was not a sound that traveled through the air, but a melodious, comforting resonance that reverberated directly within the depths of Elina's soul. It was filled with infinite motherly warmth, yet carried the crushing, ancient weight of divine authority.
Elina turned around quickly. Floating a few feet above the starry altar stood a magnificent, divine entity.
She was a woman of impossible, breathtaking beauty. Her hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of pure liquid silver, studded with tiny, twinkling starlight particles. She wore a long, flowing gown woven from the midnight sky, draped in shimmering celestial silk. Her eyes were pools of molten golden light, calm and timeless, looking down at Elina with a mixture of immense grace and subtle sadness.
She was the Goddess of Time and Destiny, Luna.
Elina took an involuntary step backward on the glassy water, her heart racing. "Goddess Luna..."
"Peace, Elina," Goddess Luna spoke softly, her delicate hand gesturing gently. "You are currently floating in the liminal threshold—the delicate boundary between the breath of life and the cold shadow of death."
Elina's eyes widened in sudden panic as memory flooded back into her mind. "The ambush! Maria! Leo!" She rushed toward the Goddess, her translucent feet splashing lightly on the mirrored surface. "Please! You have to send me back! They are in danger! The Dark Mage Guild—they brought high-level assassins! Leo is fighting alone, and Maria is—"
"Calm your spirit, Elina," Goddess Luna interrupted softly. With a slow wave of her divine sleeve, the air between them shimmered, and a massive, floating mirror made of liquid silver materialized in the empty space.
Within the mirror's reflective surface, the mortal world below came into vivid, terrifying view.
Elina saw the blood-stained mountain pass. She saw the raging battle, the terrifying destruction left in Leo's wake as he slaughtered cloaked assassins, and the protective barrier around small, weeping Maria. She saw her own pale, lifeless body resting cold against the boulder, covered in Leo's heavy cloak.
"Look closely upon the chaos you distress yourself over," Goddess Luna said, her golden eyes fixed on the silver mirror. "You weep and panic for a world that is not your home. You risk your very soul for mortal beings who were once nothing more than words written on paper in a novel from your past life."
Elina froze, her breath catching in her throat. "What do you mean?"
Goddess Luna turned her divine gaze fully upon Elina. "Have you forgotten how you came to be here, my child? The original soul of Duchess Elina—the true vessel born of my sacred divine bloodline—was weak, foolish, and destined to die early due to the corrupting shadows of this world's dark fate. To preserve the balance of this realm, I pulled your resilient, modern soul from the twenty-first century and placed you within this body. I bestowed upon you a fragment of my divine Time and Holy magic so that you might survive the harsh trials of this world."
The Goddess stepped down from the altar, her gown trailing across the starry water without leaving a ripple.
"Yet, look at what you have done," Luna continued, her tone neutral, devoid of anger yet firm as absolute law. "When you were attacked in the capital months ago, my power activated automatically to save your vessel. But tonight? Tonight, you threw your own body in front of a cursed blade to save a child who shares none of your blood. You threw yourself into mortal peril for Duke Leonhart—a man whose original destiny was meant to align with Princess Alina, not you. You are interfering far too deeply with the woven threads of this world's fate."
Elina stared at the Goddess, her mind whirling in confusion and distress. "I... I couldn't just stand there and watch Maria die! She's just a child!"
"She is a character within a divine script," Goddess Luna corrected gently. "Because of your reckless sacrifice, my divine power is currently fully consumed trying to purge the lethal curse from your mortal body. You are suspended here, on the brink of annihilation. Why do you suffer such agonizing pain for a world that does not truly belong to you?"
The Goddess raised her hand, and the mirror shifted, showing a peaceful, quiet view of a modern city at night—sleek skyscrapers, glowing neon lights, quiet apartments. The world Elina had left behind.
"I can sever your connection to this realm right now," Goddess Luna offered, her golden eyes shining with temptation. "I can heal your soul, erase the pain of the dark curse, and return you to your quiet, peaceful modern existence. Or I can grant you eternal rest in this celestial paradise. Duke Leonhart is the powerful protagonist of this realm; he is a master of war. He will survive this night without you. The story will find its course. Why bear the heavy, painful cross of a world that isn't real?"
Elina stood completely still on the glassy water of the divine sanctum.
The Goddess's words echoed through her mind like heavy, resonant iron bells. 'A world that isn't real... Just characters in a book... Leo will survive... You can go back home... You can stop hurting...'
A dangerous, suffocating temptation crept into Elina's heart.
She was so tired. The constant fear of being exposed as a transmigrator, the political scheming of the royal court, the terrifying dark magic attacks, and now the agonizing burn of a fatal curse spreading through her veins—it was all so heavy. She could just let go. She could step into the peaceful modern city in the mirror, leave behind the sword fights and blood, and go back to a safe, quiet life.
"You see?" Goddess Luna whispered softly, stepping closer to Elina. "You hesitate because your mind knows the truth. You are a modern woman of logic. There is no reason for you to bleed for House Leonhart."
Elina stood silently, her head lowered. But her eyes remained fixed on the silver mirror floating beside them.
The mirror zoomed in closer on the blood-soaked battlefield below.
She saw Duke Leonhart. He was covered in black and red blood, his Crimson Blade slashing through dark mages with savage, demonic desperation. But through the terrifying, unstoppable display of his combat power, Elina saw his eyes.
They were not the cold, invincible eyes of a fictional novel protagonist. They were the eyes of a man entirely consumed by fear and heartbreak. Every few seconds, mid-slash, his gaze would tear away from the enemy and dart frantically toward her lifeless body by the rock, his face twisting in raw, agonizing sorrow.
Then the mirror shifted to little Maria. The young girl was kneeling in the mud behind the shadow guards, holding a small, torn scrap of green silk from Elina's dress against her chest, her eyes closed as she prayed with all her tiny heart for her mother to wake up.
A sudden, fierce heat ignited deep within Elina's chest. It started as a tiny spark, then erupted into a roaring flame that instantly shattered the cold, logical doubt that had clouded her mind.
Elina slowly raised her head. The hesitation, fear, and fatigue in her green eyes vanished entirely, replaced by an unyielding, fiery resolve that matched the divine brilliance of the Goddess herself.
"No, Goddess Luna," Elina spoke. Her voice was no longer a trembling whisper; it rang out clear, strong, and defiant across the vast cosmic sanctuary. "You are wrong."
Goddess Luna tilted her head slightly, her golden eyes flickering with genuine surprise. "Wrong? In what manner, my child?"
"You call this a story world... a realm of ink and paper," Elina said, taking a firm step forward until she stood directly before the divine entity. "Maybe that's how it started for me. When I first woke up in this body, I was terrified. I thought I was just an actor playing a doomed role in a novel, trying to survive day by day. But the tears Maria shed when she called me 'Mother' were real! The warmth of Leo's hand when he held mine at the ball was real! The excruciating pain in his eyes right now... that is NOT a script!"
Elina slammed her hand over her own heart, her voice trembling with intense emotion. "Their feelings are real! My love for them is real! If I abandon them now just to save myself from pain, then I am no better than the heartless villainess this body was originally meant to be! I don't care about your original plot anymore! I don't care who was 'destined' for whom in some book! I am Duchess Elina Leonhart right now. They are my family, and I will protect them with everything I have!"
Goddess Luna stared at the young transmigrated woman before her.
For a long moment, absolute silence reigned over the celestial sanctum. Then, slowly, the stoic, divine mask on the Goddess's face softened. A subtle, beautiful, and deeply enigmatic smile—one that seemed to hold centuries of hidden omniscience—touched the edges of the deity's silver lips.
"Even if returning means carrying the heavy burden of this world's dark destiny?" Goddess Luna asked softly. "Even if unleashing the true fullness of my divine power permanently binds your soul to this realm, forcing you to fight forces far more terrifying than simple mortal assassins?"
Elina did not flinch. She locked eyes with the Goddess of Time, her gaze unyielding. "I don't care about the cost. Send me back. Now."
Goddess Luna let out a soft, beautiful laugh that sounded like silver bells chiming in the wind.
"The choice was never mine to make, Elina," the Goddess whispered, her divine body beginning to dissolve into a blinding pillar of golden stardust and silver clockwork runes. "The power of Time and Sacred Light belongs only to those who possess a heart strong enough to tear apart the fabric of written fate. Go forth, Duchess... and reclaim your world!"
The cosmic sanctuary shattered into a billion glittering stars, and Elina's soul was pulled downward at terrifying speed, plunging back toward the mortal world!
Back in the cold, shadow-drenched gorge of the mortal realm, the tide of battle had turned catastrophic.
Duke Leonhart was a warlord of unmatched prowess, a walking disaster to any army that dared face him. His Crimson Blade cut through the night, leaving behind trails of boiling blood and severed limbs. Clad in black steel armor scorched by dark spells, he moved like a phantom of death. Five assassins charged him simultaneously from the high rocks; with a single horizontal arc of his fiery blade, Leo cleaved all five through their torsos, their dark magic dissolving into ashes before their bodies hit the dirt.
Yet, even a war god could be ensnared by the cold, calculated treachery of those who fought from the shadows.
As Leo stepped forward to push deeper into the forest toward the remaining enemy mages, the earth beneath his feet suddenly groaned. The ancient rock and mud transformed into a sickly, purple-black liquid circle spanning fifty feet in diameter. The ground turned to black tar, rising like viscous serpents to wrap around his heavy boots and iron greaves.
"Now! Execute the Grand Abyssal Dragon-Slaying Array!" a harsh, raspy voice shrieked from the high cliffs above.
Emerging from the thick fog on the surrounding ridges were four figures draped in deep violet robes, their faces hidden beneath bone-carved masks painted with crimson runes. They were the High Elders of the Dark Mage Guild—master sorcerers who had spent decades in the forbidden abyssal catacombs, trading their humanity for lethal curse magic. Behind them stood the Guild Master himself, a towering figure holding a massive staff forged from dragon bone, topped with a pulsating, rotten dark mana core that radiated intense death aura.
The four High Elders slammed the iron bases of their staves into the stone cliff face simultaneously.
BOOM!
Four gigantic pillars of pitch-black, cursed fire erupted from the corners of the purple magic circle, connecting high above Leo's head to form a suffocating, cubic barrier of abyssal flame.
"Argh!" Leo roared, his muscles swelling as he swung the Crimson Blade with all his physical might to shatter the barrier wall.
CLANG!
The moment his fiery sword struck the wall of black fire, a violent backlash of dark lightning shot back down the steel blade. The black electricity tore through Leo's sword arm, searing his flesh and exploding outward across his chest. Blood sprayed from his shoulders, staining his torn tunic, and he was forced down onto one knee by an invisible, crushing weight.
"Ha-ha-ha! It is entirely futile, Duke Leonhart!" the Guild Master cackled from the cliff above, his voice echoing menacingly across the valley like grinding stones. "You are locked inside the 'Abyssal Dragon-Slaying Array'! This ancient forbidden magic feeds directly upon your aggressive physical mana! The harder you strike the barrier, the more violently it converts your own power into lethal curse lightning to destroy your internal organs from within!"
Leo growled, his jaw clenching so hard his gums bled. He spat a mouthful of dark blood onto the blackened dirt, his crimson eyes glaring up at the Guild Master with unyielding, terrifying venom. "Rats of the shadow guild... You think... a simple parlor trick can hold me?!"
He tried to force himself back onto his feet, his veins bulging against his skin. But the dark tar beneath him rose higher, creeping up his thighs and waist like heavy iron chains, injecting paralyzing poison straight into his bloodstream. Black spider-web curse marks—identical to the ones slowly killing Elina—began to bloom across Leo's neck and cheeks.
"My Lord!" Commander Brandon roared from the ridge above.
Brandon and the remaining fifteen elite imperial guards attempted to abandon their defensive position and plunge down the slope to break the four elders' spell concentration. But before they could take ten steps, a secondary hidden squad of fifty heavily armored Dark Executioners burst from the treeline.
The imperial guards, already exhausted from hours of continuous combat, fought valiantly. Swords shattered, shields were splintered by dark spells, and steel clashed against steel in a desperate struggle. But the sheer weight of enemy numbers began to tell.
One by one, the brave knights of House Leonhart were brought down. Brandon cut down three executioners despite a deep wound in his side, but a High Mage on the ridge cast a heavy gravitational spell directly upon him. The immense magic slammed Brandon onto his knees, cracking the stone beneath him. Before he could raise his sword, three dark assassins lunged forward, thrusting black magic lances through his shoulder armor and pinning him to the earth. Poisoned daggers were pressed against the throats of the remaining fallen guards.
"Do not move, Imperial Guard!" an assassin hissed. "One twitch, and your Commander's head rolls!"
"Brandon... take Maria... retreat..." Leo gasped out, his vision swimming in red and black spots as the dark lightning continuously shattered his inner mana circuits. He was kneeling in a pool of his own blood, struggling just to keep his chest moving to breathe.
"No one is leaving this valley alive tonight, Duke!" the Guild Master declared ruthlessly. He raised his dark bone staff high into the starry sky. The rot core atop it flared with a blinding, apocalyptic purple light that sucked the air out of the gorge.
Above Leo's head, inside the black cube barrier, a massive spear of condensed dark death magic—thirty feet long, dripping with corrosive acid and cursed runes—began to materialize. It rotated slowly, its razor-sharp tip pointed straight at Leo's back.
"For decades, House Leonhart has stood as an impenetrable mountain protecting this empire," the Guild Master sneered, his eyes gleefully watching the helpless war hero below. "Tonight, that mountain collapses! The Duke dies, the Duchess succumbs to poison, and the bloodline ends! Die, Leonhart!"
From the shelter of the far boulder, little Maria broke free from the dying grip of a fallen guard. Ignoring the sharp rocks cutting her small knees, she ran wildly toward the magical barrier, her tiny voice screaming in sheer terror.
"Father! No! Stop it! Don't hurt my father! Father!" Maria cried, her small hands beating helplessly against the outer shockwave of the dark array, her fingers getting burned by the black sparks.
Leo looked up at the giant spear of dark magic descending toward him.
His body was completely paralyzed; the dark curse lightning had torn his muscles and locked his nervous system. His Crimson Blade had fallen from his grip, its red fire extinguished. For the first time in his life—after surviving hundreds of battles, wars, and political assassination attempts—Duke Leonhart felt the absolute, icy shadow of total defeat.
'Is this where my story ends?' Leo thought bitterly, his heart twisting in an unbearable storm of regret. His dying gaze drifted toward the shadow of the boulder where Elina lay cold and unmoving. 'I couldn't protect her... I couldn't keep my promise to keep her safe... I couldn't even give Maria a family... Forgive me, Elina... I was too weak...'
He closed his eyes, accepting the cold fate descending upon him.
The giant spear of dark death screeched through the air, accelerating downward toward Leo's heart at terrifying speed!
Ten feet... five feet... three feet...
Suddenly—
CLANG!
A sound—not of steel breaking, nor of magic exploding, but the magnificent, ringing strike of a divine celestial bell—reverberated from the very heavens above!
The thick dark clouds covering the night sky split wide open. A massive, blinding beam of incandescent golden-white light tore down from the heavens, slamming directly onto the dark spear just inches before it could pierce Leo's back!
SHOOOO!
The giant spear of abyssal death hit the column of golden light and was instantly, utterly erased from existence! It didn't explode; it didn't shatter into shards. The black magic simply dissolved like dry dust caught in a hurricane, leaving behind only the scent of fresh rain and holy incense!
"WHAT?!" The Guild Master's ruthless laugh turned into a high-pitched, blood-curdling shriek of utter disbelief. "What is this magic?! Who dares interfere with the Abyssal Array?!"
The ground beneath the valley began to vibrate with a soft, warm resonance. The thick, sickly purple fog that had shrouded the mountain pass for hours began to recede at incredible speed, banished by a gentle, golden warmth that felt like the brilliant rays of a midsummer morning sun.
From the shadow of the granite boulder where Elina's unconscious body rested, a vast, majestic wave of Holy Mana erupted outward in all directions!
Leo's eyes snapped open. He turned his bloody, dust-covered head slowly toward the boulder, his heart skipping a beat.
The dark black curse veins that had been consuming Elina's skin were burning away, turning into faint golden particles that evaporated into the air. Her body rose slowly into the air, floating three feet above the ground, surrounded by a swirling vortex of liquid gold light and shimmering silver clockwork runes that rotated around her like the rings of a divine planet.
Her long black hair floated freely in the celestial wind, the tips glowing with a soft, radiant silver hue. Her green ballgown, though torn and stained with blood from saving Maria, was suddenly enveloped by a majestic, ethereal armor of translucent white light.
Slowly, gracefully, her feet touched the ground.
Elina opened her eyes.
They were no longer just deep emerald green. Within her pupils swirled radiant, rotating golden rings of divine authority—the mark of the Goddess of Time and Sacred Light!
"El... Elina?" Leo gasped, his voice barely a raspy whisper. His mind was entirely paralyzed by the breathtaking, terrifying, and awe-inspiring grandeur of the sight before him.
Elina did not speak immediately. She stepped out from the shadow of the boulder. The ground beneath her bare feet sprouted tiny, glowing white flowers that bloomed and vanished in seconds as she walked.
She lifted her left hand toward the sky, her emerald-gold eyes locking onto the four High Elders and the Guild Master on the cliff.
"Sacred Domain of the Celestial Sun," Elina's voice echoed across the valley. It was her voice, yet doubled by a majestic, harmonious divine aura that vibrated through the bedrock of the mountains. "Purge the shadows. Heal the righteous."
She snapped her fingers.
BOOM!
A towering wave of pure, concentrated Holy Light expanded outward from her body at lightspeed, sweeping across the entire valley!
The moment the divine light touched the four black fire pillars of the Abyssal Array, the dark fire screeched in agony and vanished into thin air! The purple tar binding Leo's legs evaporated into clean water vapor. The dark magic chains pinning Commander Brandon and the guards shattered into sparkling dust!
The fifty dark executioners caught in the holy wave screamed in agony as their dark magic weapons melted in their hands. The repulsive, sacred force threw their heavy bodies backward into the rock walls, knocking them unconscious instantly!
In less than a single second, the unbeatable dark trap that had brought the legendary Duke Leonhart to the brink of death was completely, utterly annihilated!
Leo felt a surge of incredible, warm energy flood his shattered body. The internal bleeding in his chest stopped instantly; the dark curse lightning paralyzing his veins vanished without leaving a trace. His stamina rapidly refilled as the ambient holy light closed his wounds at an impossible, miraculous rate.
He stood up smoothly, looking down at his completely healed hands, his mind completely blank with shock.
High on the cliff, the Guild Master was trembling uncontrollably. The rot core on his bone staff cracked down the center, unable to withstand the overwhelming divine pressure in the air. "Mon... Monster! She isn't human! She is a Divine Vessel! Retreat! ALL UNITS, RETREAT IMMEDIATELY!"
The surviving dark mages abandoned their heavy artifacts, scrambling in total panic as they tried to flee into the deep forest.
Elina turned her radiant, golden-ringed eyes toward the fleeing Guild Master. Her face remained entirely serene, calm, yet chillingly absolute with divine judgment.
"You dared to harm my family," Elina said softly, her voice carrying across the howling wind.
She raised her right hand, her fingers weaving a subtle, complex casting gesture in the air. A massive, golden clock face spanning hundreds of feet across materialized high in the night sky above the forest. Its ancient Roman numerals glowed with silver fire, and its hands began spinning backward at blinding speed.
"Time Arc: Stasis Lockdown."
TICK-TOCK.
The heavy, resonant sound of an ancient clock mechanism locking into place rang out over the mountains.
Instantly, the fleeing Guild Master and his mages froze mid-air! Their running feet, their flying spells, even the leaves falling around them stopped moving completely, trapped inside localized bubbles of frozen time! They hung suspended in the air like lifeless statues of ice, completely powerless and trapped in the flow of time itself.
Elina lowered her hand. The massive golden clock in the sky faded into faint stardust.
The valley fell into absolute, tranquil silence. The moonlight shone brightly through the clear night air, illuminating the peaceful forest.
Elina turned around to face Duke Leonhart.
Leo was standing twenty paces away, his Crimson Blade hanging loosely in his grip. He stared at her—at this woman who had spent months playing the role of a quiet, misunderstood wife; who had thrown herself onto a poisoned blade for his daughter; who had died in his arms just an hour ago; and who had now risen like a celestial deity to crush an army of dark mages with a wave of her hand.
His heart was pounding violently against his ribs. A storm of chaotic emotions crashed over him—unimaginable relief, deep reverent awe, burning confusion, and a love so intense and profound it terrified him. He took a hesitant, trembling step toward her, his voice shaking.
"Elina... what... who are you, truly?"
Elina looked at him. The intense golden rings within her pupils slowly receded, returning her eyes to their soft, familiar emerald green. The massive divine power had drained her mortal body's stamina to its absolute limit. Her legs began to tremble, and her knees buckled.
Before her body could touch the dirt, Leo closed the distance between them at blinding, lightning speed.
He caught her tenderly in his arms, pulling her small, exhausted frame tightly against his massive chest—not as a terrifying war god or a cold Duke, but as a desperate man holding the most precious treasure in the universe.
"I have you. I've got you," Leo choked out, his arms wrapping around her so tightly it felt as if he were trying to merge her into his very soul. He buried his face in her silver-tipped hair, tears of relief burning his eyes. "Don't ever do that again... Don't ever leave me..."
Elina rested her cheek against his warm, blood-stained chest. She could hear the rapid, wild, and incredibly loud beat of his living heart beneath his armor. A soft, tired, yet genuinely happy smile touched her lips as she weakly raised her hand to pat his heavy shoulder.
"I promised you, Leo..." Elina murmured softly, her eyelids growing heavy with sleep. "I keep my promises. I'm not going anywhere."
From down the slope, little Maria came running through the cleared path, tears streaming down her smiling cheeks as Commander Brandon and the surviving guards followed behind in awe.
"Mother! Father!" Maria cried, throwing her tiny arms around both of them, burying her face in Elina's gown.
Leo held them both tightly under the quiet moonlight, his gaze fixing on the frozen dark mages on the cliff. He knew that tonight had changed everything. The secrets of Elina's true identity, the terrifying power she possessed, and the corrupt faction in the Imperial Capital that had hired the Dark Mage Guild would all have to be confronted.
But as he looked down at his wife sleeping peacefully in his arms, Duke Leonhart knew one thing with absolute, unshakeable certainty:
No power in heaven or hell would ever take her away from him again.
