~Rhiannon's POV~
Three days had passed since Father's burial, and I still hadn't been told where they had laid him to rest. The thought of it alone kept clawing at me on the inside.
I pulled the dark fabric tighter around my shoulders. The dress was simple, nothing like the elaborate gowns I used to wear.
But then again, nothing was the same anymore. My father was gone, branded a traitor for trying to kill the alphas. Even in death, his name was dragged through the mud.
They claimed to have proof, and I do not doubt what was seen, but perhaps things weren't as they seemed, and maybe they gave him a reason to act that way.
A sharp knock interrupted my thoughts. I didn't bother to look up. "Come in."
The door opened with a soft creak, and I caught the familiar scent of pine and earth even before I saw Kael. My stomach tightened, but I forced myself to remain still.
