I wake up to sunlight leaking through the curtains and, for once, my brain isn't chewing itself alive. Everything is going… smooth. Suspiciously smooth.
The lab hasn't caught onto my little data heist. Jiang's been behaving—well, as much as someone who watches cooking videos for six hours straight can be called "behaving." And I've even managed to map out what can be done for those two subjects. Step by step, everything's lining up.
"What could possibly go wrong?" I mutter, stretching as I drag myself out of bed.
Ding-dong.
The doorbell cuts through my perfect little morning like a knife.
I freeze mid-step, blinking at the door. "…Well. I take back my words," I sigh, rubbing my temples. "Thanks, universe. Really appreciate the timing."
The bell rings again, sharper this time. Ding-dong. Ding-dong.
"Ugh! I'm coming!" I yell toward the door, then spin around to the bed.
