Lucy stared at her phone. It was like her phone had just told her a bad secret. The last message was from someone named "M. Bishop."
The message said:
"Meet me. One hour. Don't bring anyone else. Bring your plan—and be brave."
Cole read the message over her shoulder. "Sounds friendly. Totally normal. Very not scary," he said. He was being funny because it sounded very scary.
"Coffee machines have threatened me more gently," Lucy mumbled. She meant the message from M. Bishop was very mean, even more than a grumpy coffee machine.
Still, Lucy was already putting on her boots. She knew she had to go.
At the Shady Techno Bar (Yes, That's the Real Name)
The place was dark. It had flashing neon lights, like a fun fair but darker. Strange music played loudly. Lucy found M. Bishop sitting in a quiet part of the bar. He was half-hidden in shadows. He was drinking something that looked like car oil, very black and thick, in a glass.
