Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Scent Tracking (Please Collect and Recommend)

Sniffing the scent from the toilet paper, the hiding place of the boy in the yellow T-shirt also had the same smell, confirming it was the odor from the boy in the yellow T-shirt.

"What's wrong?" Zhang Haiyang asked.

Hearing the commotion, Zhou Weimin also walked over, "Haiyang, Luo Fei, did you two find something?"

Luo Fei then handed the toilet paper with the scent to Zhou Weimin, "This should be left by the boy in the yellow T-shirt," then he explained his deduction to Zhou Weimin and Zhang Haiyang.

"Luo Fei, your nose is so sharp, can you track this scent?" Zhou Weimin asked Luo Fei in surprise.

"I'll give it a try." Luo Fei replied, confident in his ability to track the culprit. His confidence stemmed from the fusion of police dog olfactory genes. Shortly after the fusion, out of curiosity, Luo Fei had secretly used his brother Luo Hao's clothes to locate him, and successfully found him at the basketball court.

Then Luo Fei, along with Zhang Haiyang and Zhou Weimin, came to a fork in the road. Luo Fei sniffed and indeed, the scent of the boy in the yellow T-shirt lingered in the air. Luo Fei felt even more confident now that he could find the two suspects based on the scent.

Police dogs can track criminals by scent because each person carries a unique odor. Scents are composed of countless molecules that are constantly in motion, leaving a trail of odor molecules where the person walks. It's these molecules that police dogs use to track criminals.

After tracking along the fork for about five hundred meters, Luo Fei and the others spotted Liu Haiquan accompanied by another person.

Seeing Zhou Weimin's group, Liu Haiquan walked over.

"Officer Zhou, we tracked them here. This road leads to this household. We just searched inside and found nothing. We suspect they slipped through this mulberry field, as going through here leads directly to Xincheng Avenue and then to the county town," Liu Haiquan pointed to a vast mulberry field to the left of the house.

Zhou Weimin glanced at the mulberry field, then looked at Luo Fei beside him.

Luo Fei wasted no words and said directly, "They didn't go through the mulberry field; they went through the cornfield below." Without waiting for a reply, Luo Fei took the lead in pursuit, with Zhang Haiyang hurrying to follow.

"What are you standing around for? Follow Luo Fei!" Zhou Weimin urged Liu Haiquan and Zhang Da, who were still frozen in place.

Coming out of the cornfield, Luo Fei then dashed into the sugarcane field below. Out of the sugarcane field, the scent followed a small path beside the field all the way down. Continuing the chase for about thirty minutes, Luo Fei and his group followed the scent all the way to Daqiao Town, a town below Ningjiang County.

"These two guys sure can run!" Behind them, Zhou Weimin was already sweating profusely and out of breath.

"Luo Fei, are you sure about this?" Liu Haiquan asked with some doubt. Luo Fei's ability to track suspects by scent sounded a bit mystical, and Zhang Da beside him was also somewhat skeptical.

"You two should conserve your energy for the road." Zhang Haiyang glared at Liu Haiquan and Zhang Da with dissatisfaction. He had witnessed Luo Fei's sharp sense of smell, so he had no doubt about Luo Fei's ability to track by scent.

At Daqiao Town, the suspects didn't continue downward but instead followed the bypass road straight ahead. Upon reaching Mule Creek, they kept going upwards. After about half an hour, Luo Fei and the others found themselves at the entrance of the Vocational High School.

"Officer Zhou, Master, the suspects' scent went inside. They are probably students from the vocational school." Confirming that the scent entered the school, Luo Fei turned to Zhou Weimin and Zhang Haiyang, saying.

"Let's go in. Luo Fei, you lead the way." Zhou Weimin looked a bit grim. Given the current situation, it was highly likely that the suspects were students at the vocational school. If they were students, it would have severe and negative implications.

With lax management at the vocational school, Luo Fei's group entered without even seeing a security guard at the entrance.

Following the scent, Luo Fei quickly arrived at the boys' dormitory.

Third floor, room 308 of the boys' dormitory.

"Zhu Bin, Liu Cheng, where have you two been? Why are you sweating all over?" By the window on the top bunk, Wang Zhi, who was engrossed in playing games, couldn't help but ask when he saw Zhu Bin and Liu Cheng enter, panting and drenched in sweat.

Zhu Bin glanced at Liu Cheng, then chuckled, "We were just at the square playing basketball one-on-one, exhausted." With that, Zhu Bin climbed onto the top bunk without taking off his shoes, lying on his bed and taking out his phone. However, as he kept scrolling through his phone pages, it was clear his mind wasn't on it.

Liu Cheng sat down on his chair, placing his hands on his feet. His hands were visibly trembling; it was his first crime, and he could still hear his heart pounding crazily in his chest.

After a few minutes, Liu Cheng finally calmed down. He stood up and looked at Zhu Bin on the bed, "Zhu Bin, let's go shower."

"Okay," Zhu Bin replied, immediately jumping down from the top bunk.

The two changed clothes, grabbed their shower basins, and just as Liu Cheng opened the door...

Several policemen rushed in, led by Luo Fei and his team, who had tracked the scent.

"It's these two," Luo Fei pointed at Zhu Bin and Liu Cheng. Although Luo Fei was initially unfamiliar with Liu Cheng's scent, he realized during the chase that another scent was always present, confirming that it belonged to another suspect.

"Squat down, squat down," Zhang Haiyang and his team, upon hearing Luo Fei, immediately restrained Zhu Bin and Liu Cheng.

On the top bunk, Wang Zhi, who was engrossed in his game, was stunned by the scene in front of him, sitting frozen on his bed, not daring to move or speak.

Most likely due to it being their first crime, coupled with their being minors, Zhu Bin and Liu Cheng quickly confessed to the robbery. Zhang Haiyang also retrieved the stolen one thousand yuan cash from Zhu Bin's bedding on the top bunk.

Regarding the bag, phone, and lipstick, Zhu Bin said they had discarded them on the roadside. The bag and lipstick were considered useless, and the phone was discarded for fear of being tracked and located.

The reason behind the robbery was desperation for food money.

Both from the same village, their parents worked outside and sent them an eight hundred yuan monthly allowance. Under normal circumstances, eight hundred a month should suffice.

However, the pair had recently become obsessed with gaming arcades, spending all their allowance there. With only a few days into the month, they were too afraid to call their family for money.

Finally, the two decided on robbery after discussing it.
