Chapter 14 - Chapter 8: Game and Reality

Qin Miao, sitting in the kart and swaying slightly as he prepared to return to the pit area to change positions for Qimeng to practice, also heard the sudden singing.

"What's going on?"

Qimeng swallowed nervously, even though Qin Miao's lap just now wasn't particularly fast, and these recreational karts couldn't go very fast anyway.

But the visual impact of Qin Miao seemingly wanting to crash into every corner and the instinctive fear of death still made Qimeng's heart race and breathing quicken.

"I don't know..."

"But I can responsibly say that I'm kind of regretting teaming up with you now. Could you not drive so... aggressively? What if something really happens?"

Qin Miao blinked. Was his driving style aggressive?

Upon thinking carefully, Qin Miao realized that Qimeng had a point. Unlike those professional drivers who grew up playing go-karts, he, Qin Miao, was an e-sports racer.

The simulator players are different from those who play real cars.

Simulator players aren't afraid of death or crashes; the driving style is all about being reckless.

When Qin Miao played simulators, he was a player who liked to drive the car towards a dead end.

So when he came to reality and got used to the real car's handling and speed, Qin Miao subconsciously brought his simulator driving habits into real life.

Scratching his face, Qin Miao tentatively asked, "Should I tone it down a bit during the race later?"

Qimeng shook her head without much thought, saying, "Just drive normally. These karts aren't too fast; they just look scary."

Speaking of races, everyone wants to be first.

As they chatted casually, the two returned to the pit area.

Qin Miao was thinking about switching places with Qimeng to let her get familiar with the track, but before they could get out of the car, they were surrounded by classmates.

"Whoa, awesome, Qin Miao! You actually broke the fastest lap record for dual go-karts at this karting center!"

"Miao, you're amazing!"

"You've been hiding this, haven't you? Never knew you could drive like this."

"Qin! Need an accessory on your leg? Do you think I'd be suitable?"

...

Qin Miao, who had just got off the car, was a bit dumbfounded. Why were these people so enthusiastic about him?

Through their words, Qin Miao finally figured out the story behind it.

His practice lap inadvertently broke the lap record of the karting center, albeit just the dual go-kart record without any rewards.

Although Qin Miao knew that a significant part of breaking the record was because he and Qimeng were both relatively light.

Even though he was 172 cm tall, he only weighed over 90 pounds.

Qimeng, looking tall, actually just had a good body proportion and was quite slim, so visually she appeared taller, but she was only around 155 cm, and her weight was roughly in the 70-80 pounds range.

Therefore, Qin Miao's dual-seat kart had a small load, coupled with his decent talent, breaking a dual go-kart record made sense.

Also, the fastest lap records for dual and solo go-karts were separate.

This karting center had no previous attempts at the dual kart lap record.

In Qin Miao's view, breaking this record was surprising but not impossible; it was just an unnoticed record being broken, nothing special.

However, his classmates didn't see it that way.

When someone you see every day suddenly shows a talent you never noticed before, curiosity naturally arises, and everyone wants to know what's going on.

Qin Miao was in this situation, surrounded by classmates asking endless questions.

Many female classmates gave Qin Miao curious looks. How come they never noticed this skill before?

Seeing Qin Miao taking off his helmet in the male classmates' embrace, many female classmates' eyes brightened. They hadn't noticed before, but upon a closer look, Qin Miao wasn't bad-looking.

Amidst the classmates' praise and exclamations, Qin Miao remained calm, only subconsciously searching for Fan Yue among the crowd, otherwise just thinking about the competition start time.

Once it's over, he could go home and play games. He planned not to go out again this summer.

"Qin Miao, you're being a bit cheeky," Zhu Hong walked over with a smile. "This is no ordinary achievement. You modestly claimed it was your first time with karts."

"Never seen you play here either. Where did you practice? Introduce me; I'll find time to practice too."

Zhu Hong's words, though casual and amazed, subtly conveyed a message to the gathered classmates here.

Qin Miao, clearly capable of such impressive feats, previously told Zhu Hong it was his first time karting.

Simultaneously, implying to classmates that Qin Miao had kart experience but didn't say, wanting to show off here.

Even though classmates at this age hadn't fully stepped into society and were relatively naive.

It didn't stop them from having self-awareness and judgment, analyzing hidden messages from others' words.

So many classmates who were curiously surrounding Qin Miao felt less curious and excited upon hearing Zhu Hong's words.

Though this was just a portion, mostly female classmates.

Most male classmates remained carefree, even more curious after the class monitor spoke, "Whoa, Qin Miao, you sly dog! Where did you practice? Introduce your coach; I want to practice too."

"Are you blind? There's a ready-made one right here! Miao, teach me a trick or two later; my chance to beat my deskmate depends on you."

As soon as this classmate said that, others immediately started heckling.

"Old Kang, is winning really what you want? You want to confess to Qiqi with what you learn from Qin Miao!"

"Oh? Really, Old Kang?"

"Get lost!"

...

Hearing the commotion, classmates gathering around Qin Miao quickly joined in the heckling.

Seeing an uncontrollable trend, Qin Miao explained helplessly, "I'm not kidding, this really is my first time playing go-kart. You guys think I'm fast mainly because I often play racing simulators on the computer, so I have some experience with lines and braking points."

"Also, the dual go-kart driver's weight plays a big role, and neither Qimeng nor I are heavy, so it runs faster."

But hearing this explanation made classmates even more excited.

Being young, though not all like Qin Miao who loves computer games, most male classmates enjoy gaming.

And gaming for them might just be a form of entertainment, but now there's a living example using "game" skills effectively in real life.

This aroused classmates' curiosity more, with everyone crowding in to ask.

"Qin Miao, do you think there's a difference between gaming and driving in reality?"

"Is it harder to drive in games or in real life?"

"I want to improve my real-life driving skills, does practicing in games help?"
