Chapter 46 - Scientific Deception - Part I

Like a true hunter after her prey, Rin Yuang was seen that way. Relentlessly chasing criminals.

Her legs leapt between the structures of the Infernal Inferius, trying to hit a man in nonlethal areas with her pistol.

The criminal used fire magic to try to distract or burn her, but stopping a dedicated investigator was impossible.

Quickly, he was detained and handed over to the police.

Rinoto Kyouri wrote everything down, offering praise that seemed to make all the woman's effort worthwhile.

Roger appeared to observe silently, returning to his work without congratulating her or apologizing for his previous actions.

In the late afternoon, Rin Yuang sat on a swing in a children's park in an almost nostalgic way.

Swinging back and forth... that moment reminded her of her childhood, of her mother, so gentle, pushing her lightly. Her father only waited for her to jump so she could fall into his strong, protective arms.

"..."

A sigh escaped her lips, heavy with melancholy. No longer wanting to remember her past, Rin Yuang simply stood up from the swing, running her hands along the chains that held it.

"I miss you both so much..."

Arriving home, Rin Yuang stored her pistols, let her hair down, removed her clothes, and went to take a shower.

The hot water was like a balm for her tired soul. The soap felt like a purifier, eliminating all the negative energy she had faced during the day.

After the shower, she dried herself and put on casual clothes, a tank top and light pants. Her footsteps echoed through the empty living room, her gaze pausing on the photo of her parents and friends whom she could no longer meet in this world.

She ate dinner, lasagna, what was left. The night rain began, making the moment more pleasant, even if even more melancholic.

After eating, she drank black coffee, sat in a chair, and began her nightly research.

"Who are you, Theatrical Assassin?"

She had been on that investigation for days. It was impressive how limited the information was.

☆☆☆

Current results:

"The Theatrical Assassin is someone with intelligence far above average, someone with broad knowledge and a great manipulator."

"I managed to connect the links between the Theatrical Assassin and the Assassin of the Century. That is, he or she is the same person."

"Who are you?"

☆☆☆

Even with a level of exhaustion greater than she could imagine, Rin Yuang was determined... until her body could take no more.

In the early hours of the morning, exhaustion reached its limit, causing her to pass out.

***

"You're losing your mind, Rin Yuang!"

One of her colleagues, of a lower rank, helped her sit down in her office. Despite her dark circles, Rin Yuang tried to keep a friendly tone.

"I... I can't give up on this case, Mia. It's an important case for Libretãnhya."

"Your health is more important than a case! I'm not letting you work, not today!"

"Dear... don't get in my way."

Rin Yuang tried to argue, but considering that even Rinoto ordered her to rest, there was not much she could do.

"Our boss told you to rest, Rin! Stop being foolish and go home!"

***

Well, arriving home, a feeling of failure took over her. But maybe rest would do her some good...

Her body fell heavily onto the bed, falling asleep almost instantly...

In some ruins of a remote region of Libretãnhya, Elisa walked. The debris of what might have been an ancient civilization created a post apocalyptic image.

"What place would this have been in the Ancient Society? The United States, China, Japan? Everything seems mixed." she murmured.

Some Renkai Creatures were scattered among the structures, feeding on one another due to the lack of food.

With a slightly louder step, the demons turned their heads toward her, letting out roars and charging at her.

"Damn it!"

Elisa ran into an abandoned building. The demons that tried to climb were eliminated through windows and stairways.

With some in more inaccessible places, Elisa touched the ground, trying to feel the flow of Renkai Energy, locating them and eliminating them with blood spikes that emerged from the ground or the walls.

After the small battle, Elisa went back to investigating the area. Entering places that could be considered houses at times, she sometimes found scenes that were not pleasant at all, making her retch upon seeing them.

Reaching what looked like a temple, Elisa ended up stepping on a false floor, falling into a great abyss.

"Ahhhh!!"

Her body slammed against the ground several times. A foul smell spread into her nose, and confusion appeared on her face.

The place looked clean, as if it had been visited recently. She got back up, somewhat injured, and began to walk silently through the dark corridor.

With each step, candles lit up, revealing a scene to her. A giant creature stood before Elisa. Its body looked like a fusion of various types of Renkai Creatures. Then the being opened its eyes.

The hair on the back of her neck stood up. Without hesitation, the monster raised several swords with its many arms and charged at her, roaring in agonizing sound.

Elisa tried to defend herself with her sword and blood magic, but the creature was unpredictable.

She tried to leap away, but her legs were wrapped and her body was thrown against a wall.

She groaned in pain, trying to get up. Gripping her sword more tightly, blood enveloped the blade and her body formed a kind of armor over her shoulders and sensitive areas.

With a shout, she charged forward and the battle began to grow more serious. The arms of the fused Renkai Creatures were torn off, Elisa received cuts across her body, trying to heal herself with a layer of blood over her skin.

She ran quickly toward a wall, kicking it hard, creating a layer of blood. The monster tried to pierce her, but she used her feet to push off and spin through the air over the creature.

The layer of blood came into contact with the candles, becoming engulfed in flames. With that, Elisa pierced the Renkai Creature. Its brownish, resistant skin caused it to be pressed against the fire, beginning to scream in pain.

Elisa remained firm, the muscles of her body standing out, showing the force she applied. Then the being's body began to fall apart...

Elisa collapsed onto the ground, exhausted. The partial armor dissolved, turning into nothing more than a pool of blood surrounding her body...

...

...

...

As if she had slept for a week, Elisa felt a gentle caress on her face. When she opened her eyes, she only glimpsed the image of a certain person...

Aurora Sinhaygter.

"Apparently, you had quite an intense fight here."

She adjusted her glasses and then scratched her own gray hair.

"Get up. This is an order from your boss."

Despite the firm tone, she did not press her again. Aurora stood up and walked to the corpse of the Renkai Creature, staring at it with interest.

"Impressive." she murmured.

"Hmmm... what?"

Elisa sat up, still dizzy. Aurora looked at her briefly, then returned her gaze to the corpse.

"Someone created this. It's not a common fusion, which should be deformed. Everything is minimally calculated. As if someone wanted to create a kind of bodyguard for this temple."

She stood up again, putting her hand into what looked like a lab coat pocket, pulling out a small device. She activated it and surrounded the entire area, beginning to display digital samples.

"Strange... it's as if there's no one here. This person cleaned this place very well... you definitely faced something impressive, girl. Congratulations." she said honestly.

Elisa tried to stand, but fell to the ground again. Aurora looked at her with a furrowed brow.

"Are you never going to get up?"

She approached and pulled her up, supporting her against her chest. Elisa was surprised, but too exhausted to stop her.

"Sorry, Miss Sinhaygter."

"Don't be formal. Just Aurora for you."

The lab coat slipped from her shoulder and wrapped around Elisa, holding her in the air with small rockets hidden in the outfit.

"What is this person hiding?" she murmured.

As she walked, the lab coat followed, still holding Elisa. Until the path grew darker in energy and revealed several... hearts?!

"No fucking way!"

She stared at the capsules that stored hearts and kept them alive, still beating endlessly. The hearts belonged to Destroyers.

"I've never seen this in my life. This is like an infinite source of energy!"

She touched the capsules. One seemed to have belonged to a Thunder Destroyer, sending electrical energy through connections that seemed impossible to trace.

Another appeared to be from a Tide Destroyer, sending water through the same untraceable connections.

"This is a completely new method of using Renkai Energy to our advantage!"

Completely excited to such a level that she barely noticed Elisa anymore, she began searching for calculations or conclusions that would allow her to do the same.

And then she found it...

"This... what?!"

She looked at a wall covered in calculations and notes, but written in an unknown language, with no chance of understanding them.

"But you son of a—"
