Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Clever Response

"Captain, that police car is following the target's bicycle. Should we find an opportunity to kill the police and take the person away?"

"No, we can't startle the snake without confirming Shen Zuimo's exact location. Everyone, follow me, take him along, and let's catch up first." Blood Wolf pointed at the hotel owner, and several men in black quickly walked into the elevator.

The street downstairs appeared particularly quiet, as Blood Wolf led a group of people toward the underground parking lot to retrieve the car, they suddenly all stopped.

A man had appeared in their sight at some unknown time. Although he walked slowly, his presence gradually oppressed the men in black.

"It's fortunate we had Elder Ren's warning; otherwise, this would be troublesome." Shen Junjie looked at the assassins in front of him, his mouth curving up while his eyes remained vigilant.

"One of the Four Heroes of Yanhuang, Shen Junjie, I didn't expect to be discovered by you." Blood Wolf looked at Shen Junjie, his face not relaxed.

"Blood Wolf of the Bloodthirsty Thirteenth Young Master, I've heard your name." Shen Junjie replied curtly.

Though they met for the first time, they seemed very familiar with each other.

"You plan to stop us all alone? I've heard the Four Heroes of Yanhuang are elites among elites. Looks like I'm fortunate to experience it today." Blood Wolf spoke while secretly signaling his men to pursue Ye Xiaofan, intending to face Shen Junjie on his own.

"Did I say I was alone?"

'Bang.'

As Shen Junjie finished speaking, a gunshot suddenly pierced the clear sky.

'Thud.' A man in black fell, blood spurting rapidly from his chest.

"Damn, there's a sniper, quickly, back into the building." Blood Wolf reacted the fastest, immediately leading his companions to retreat.

'Bang.' Another man in black fell.

After taking down two, Blood Wolf finally led them back into the building to hide.

"Damn it, that Blood Wolf is too clever. I can't keep up with his speed." On another high-rise, a man with a sniper rifle spoke resentfully.

"Bing, your piece of junk can't kill Blood Wolf, watch out, they might target you first."

"Got it. Hey, isn't that the hotel owner?" Bing suddenly saw the hotel owner standing still through the scope.

At that moment, upon seeing the man in black fall into a pool of blood, the whole body of the hotel owner trembled with fright, unable to run.

"Run already, don't just stand there like..."

'Whish.'

Before Shen Junjie could finish shouting, a cold gleam flashed, and Shen Junjie attempted to intervene, but the distance was too far, he could only watch as the hidden weapon pierced the hotel owner's back.

"Damn, killing in front of me." Bing saw it clearly through the scope but couldn't stop it, cursing under his breath.

"Damn it." Shen Junjie cursed when he realized the man was beyond saving. Anger didn't cloud his mind; he knew fighting to the death wasn't an option now. He needed to stall them, wait for reinforcements, or for Lin Miaoke and others to find his sister's whereabouts.

"Bing, can you see the back door from your direction?"

"Yes."

"They will surely find your location and attempt to snipe you. Be careful."

"Don't worry, I'm fine."

Shen Junjie made arrangements and stood guard outside the door, resembling a lone warrior blocking a multitude.

Blood Wolf and his group had to leave through the main entrance because their car was in the underground parking lot, which required passing through the main entrance.

"Jack of Diamonds, Five of Spades, you two go to the rooftop, take out that sniper. Once you find them, shoot, and after killing the sniper, provide cover. This Shen Junjie isn't an ordinary person, and I can't be sure of beating him." Blood Wolf wasn't modest; he sensed the presence of a formidable opponent.

Shen Junjie felt the same pressure from Blood Wolf. Who would win in their duel?

The scene shifts to Ye Xiaofan.

He rode his bicycle leisurely, picking up a fast food meal along the way, returning home at 12:45.

Lin Miaoke and a police officer were right behind him, not missing a single move Ye Xiaofan made.

Opening the door, Ye Xiaofan felt an intense nervousness, uncertain if Shen Zuimo had hidden somewhere or might ambush him as before once the door opened.

The door opened quietly, which allowed Ye Xiaofan to breathe a sigh of relief. It seemed Shen Zuimo had received his secret signal.

Lin Miaoke and the officer immediately entered, scanning the less-than-100-square-meter apartment with sharp eyes.

The living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom were scrutinized thoroughly, down to the toothbrush, towel, and wardrobe.

The house wasn't large, and with little furniture, Lin Miaoke examined it meticulously, hoping to find even a single long hair. Eventually, Lin Miaoke stopped in Ye Xiaofan's room.

"Why does your room have an odd smell?" Upon entering, Lin Miaoke felt something amiss.

Ye Xiaofan inwardly shouted 'bad luck.' After Shen Zuimo was injured, he used alcohol or hydrogen peroxide for disinfection, and due to poor ventilation in the adjacent room, Ye Xiaofan let Shen Zuimo stay in his room.

You can hide living supplies, but the residual smell in the air can't dissipate in such a short time.

"Is there? Cough cough..." Ye Xiaofan feigned an awkward cough.

Then, Lin Miaoke went straight to the trash can in the room.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Ye Xiaofan suddenly shouted.

"What do you mean? I'm just looking." Lin Miaoke crouched down to inspect.

"No, um, cough cough, you know, a man living alone at home having some smell is normal, and that, inside..."

Upon hearing this, Lin Miaoke's face changed, immediately standing up. She looked at the tissues in the trash can, gave Ye Xiaofan a pale look, then turned to the computer desk. It seemed Lin Miaoke had figured out what those tissues were used for.

Yet, a message on the computer made Ye Xiaofan's heart jump.

"Hmm? What's this? Did you send yourself a message?" The computer was on, and Lin Miaoke checked the chat content, finding an eleven o'clock message from Ye Xiaofan to himself.

However, the message consisted of garbled symbols and numbers, seemingly meaningless.

"Oh, maybe I accidentally hit the phone switch while fetching the bike at school, accidentally sending myself a message." Ye Xiaofan explained calmly. Internally he was panicking, as it was a coded message to Shen Zuimo, signaling danger. He worried whether this beautiful police officer might discover something.

"Oh, you haven't eaten, go ahead and eat, I'll look around, if nothing's wrong, I won't bother you." Lin Miaoke said casually.

"Alright, you do what you need." Ye Xiaofan didn't know if the policewoman found out anything, but he had to obediently leave the room, avoiding suspicion.

When Ye Xiaofan left, Lin Miaoke quickly took out her phone, snapping a picture of the scrambled characters in the QQ message before departing with her colleague.

Once the two police left, Ye Xiaofan finally exhaled in relief. Cold sweat slowly emerged on his forehead at this moment.

'Whish.' A graceful figure suddenly slipped in through the window.

"Whoa, where did you come from?" Ye Xiaofan was startled by Shen Zuimo's sudden appearance.

"Impressive, you managed to deceive that policewoman." Shen Zuimo looked serious but gained respect for Ye Xiaofan.

The sequence of numerical codes was a special contact method taught by Shen Zuimo, meaning: There are police, hide. Shen Zuimo admired Ye Xiaofan's agile mind; he mastered these complex codes within just five days.

Shen Zuimo quickly tidied up traces of herself in the house, even cleaning up her hair.

"I hid in the adjacent apartment, no one lives there." Shen Zuimo went to the window, watching the departing police. She exhaled lightly: "Looks like we can't linger here."

"No, the most dangerous place is the safest. The police can't be sure you're hiding in my house, plus they've just searched and won't return soon. Staying is safest." Ye Xiaofan had other ideas.

Shen Zuimo quietly looked at Ye Xiaofan, realizing his cleverness surpassed her expectations. With him, she felt an extraordinary sense of security.
