"When desire ignites between an inner flame and a merciless shadow… your true self is born."
From Kain's Thoughts
✦ Unknown Perspective ✦
In a deep place, in a dimension devoured by chaos, everything was burning.
It was not flames like those known by humans. The crimson blaze was a living being, breathing and writhing, roaring in the cosmic void and leaving scars of destruction in the fabric of reality itself. The air was saturated with the scent of sulfur and regret, and every sound echoed as if it were the flapping of demonic wings.
In the heart of this hell, a majestic throne rose.
A throne built from the bones of forgotten creatures, interlaced with chains of black gold that pulsed with the coldness of death. The throne groaned like a sick heart, and muffled weeping whispers rose from it whenever the flames touched its edges. And at its peak, sat a figure of shadow and fire.
It had no fixed shape. It was an entity dancing between darkness and flame, between the stillness of absolute terror and the explosion of eternal hatred. And in the midst of this embodiment of chaos, two eyes gleamed like burning embers in a starless night.
A smile drew itself on its shifting features. A smile that carried no joy, but a promise of destruction.
Then it whispered, with a voice like the hiss of a desperate serpent across universes:
"I found you… my dear brother."

✦ Kain Swan's Perspective ✦
Golden rays of sunlight slipped between the dense branches, painting spots of light on the damp forest floor. The scent of the Amazon was rich, a primitive mixture of rotting mud, decaying leaves, and the fragrance of wildflowers that defy the cruelty of nature. Everything here pulsed with savage life and carried within it a hidden danger lurking behind every shadow.
The small plane landed on a modest dirt strip at midday, as if it had spat us out into the heart of a world that knows no mercy. And from there, we began our journey toward the unknown.
Alice walked beside me with unmatched grace, her eyes sparkling with childlike excitement, and her short black hair dancing lightly with every breeze.
She said with a mischievous smile:
"So… will you finally show me what you can do, mysterious hero?"
I answered her with a faint smile, trying to hide the exhaustion clinging to my soul since that terrifying vision of that burning hell.
"I'm not in my best shape today."
Her smile widened.
"Excellent, that means I'll win easily then."
I let out a faint laugh. In an instant, Alice took a graceful combat stance, like a dancer preparing to perform her hardest moves. Her reaction was swift, evasive, as if she were dancing with the air itself.
The spar began.
It was a friendly training, but it was by no means easy. I refrained from using my sword "The Devourer" or any of my combat skills, relying only on my raw physical stats. But the difference in experience and style between her and me was like the difference between brute force and refined art.
Her strikes were precise, her movement supple as silk, and her confident smile never left her face.
Within minutes, I found myself on my back twice, while I only achieved a single victory, and that with difficulty.
She said as she extended her cold hand to help me rise:
"Your performance is good. But… you still need a lot of training."
I sighed as I held her hand, feeling the static electricity between us.
"I know. And that's why we're here."
After hours of exhausting training, and with the sun leaning toward sunset to dye the sky with fiery colors, we decided to return to civilization temporarily. The nearest city was about an hour's drive away, and there we found a modest hotel to spend the night.
But while we were on our way, I found myself drowning in a recent memory…
On the plane, Alice had been sitting beside me, staring silently through the small window at the clouds stretching like a sea of cotton.
"Are you nervous?" she suddenly asked without looking at me.
I shook my head.
"No… just on guard."
"On guard?"
"I feel a coming danger… but I cannot yet determine its nature."
She looked at me with her anxious golden eyes.
"Wouldn't it be better if you told me? Maybe I can help."
"I don't want to affect your visions," I lied.
"Prior knowledge might confuse the future and change its course."
But the truth was simpler and more terrifying: I was afraid.
Afraid of Victoria and her potential army of newborns. Afraid of the Volturi and their growing suspicions. And more than anything else, afraid of Shine… that nightmare I had seen, the cosmic destruction, the stars swallowed by darkness…
I still did not understand the nature of my "System," or who I really was, or what awaited me at the end of this road.
My turbulent thoughts stopped when I felt her small cold hand grasp mine tightly.
I looked at her, and saw her lips trembling slightly.
"I… I was so afraid," she said in a faint voice.
"When you fell after Victoria's attack… for a moment, I thought I had lost you forever."
I looked at her silently, then pulled her into a warm embrace. I felt her cling to me.
She whispered, her face buried in my chest:
"I felt that something inside you exploded… then disappeared. Your eyes… were empty of any life."
"I don't remember anything clearly," I admitted honestly.
"All I know is that I felt an immense power ignite in my blood, then… everything faded."
She pulled away slightly to look directly into my eyes, and in her gaze was a silent plea.
"Don't leave me again, Kain."
I raised her hand to my lips and kissed its palm gently. Then, without thinking, I drew closer and pressed a deep, silent kiss to her lips… a kiss that carried more than just love; it was a promise of protection and staying.
When we pulled apart, our breaths were ragged, and she whispered in a barely audible voice:
"I love you."
I smiled, and felt a part of the darkness in my soul lift.
"And I love you, Alice."
--------------------------------------------------------
"Why are you smiling like that?"
I awoke from my daze at Alice's cheerful voice as we entered our modest room in the hotel.
"Just… remembered something wonderful."
She smiled in turn, that smile that drives me insane, then stepped forward and closed the door behind us, shutting us away from the clamor of the outside world.
For a moment, silence reigned, broken only by the sound of my breathing. Night had begun weaving its threads outside, but a deeper shadow was weaving its threads inside me.
And instead of rushing toward her as she expected, and as I desperately longed to, I found my body moving by itself toward the edge of the bed. I sat, feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders. I passed my hand over my face, then through my hair, in a gesture that revealed a fatigue not physical, but a toxic spiritual exhaustion that had seeped from Shine's last vision.
I felt her light movement as she approached, then she sat quietly beside me, leaving a small space between us, but her presence filled all the emptiness. She did not touch me, but I felt her gaze studying me deeply.
"You weren't joking when you said you weren't in your best shape," she whispered in a voice soft as silk.
"What is it that weighs on your soul, Kain?"
I sighed, and kept my eyes fixed on my hands, as if I saw on them the blood of a battle not yet fought.
"Sometimes… I see glimpses of the coming darkness. Not like your clear visions, but like a nightmare I cannot wake from. A sense of responsibility crushes me… I'm afraid… afraid that I will fail to protect you all."
The silence that followed my words was heavier than any confession. Then, I felt her marble-cold hand gently covering mine.
"You are not alone in this," she said in a steady tone that pierced the fog of my fear.
"I see the future, but I live in constant fear of the possibilities I cannot change. I see a thousand paths, and most end in darkness. Your existence… makes all these possibilities less terrifying. You are not just my shield, you are my anchor in this chaos."
I lifted my gaze to her, and our eyes met. In that moment, I did not see the immortal being that cannot be defeated, but I saw my partner who carried the same burden, the same fear. Her weakness was a reflection of mine, and our strength… lay in this shared confession.
The distance between us vanished without either of us moving.
The mutual longing… no longer needed any call. One look from her was enough to ignite every suppressed desire in my depths, but this time, it was not desire alone, it was mixed with a fierce need to prove to each other that we were still alive… even if in our immortal and unique way.
Our kisses were soaked with passion, with longing, and with the deep understanding that had just been born between us.
Every touch of her cold fingers was like fire on my skin, and every sigh of mine was a promise that this night would not end.
Our clothes did not fall gently, but tore between our hands in feverish ardor, as if we rejected any barrier separating two bodies inflamed with yearning for each other. My body merged with hers, and her marble-cold skin burned me more than any heat I had ever known. Her hands roamed every detail of my chest and muscles, while with my lips I mapped the contours of her perfect body.
Our movements were pure hunger, and her silent moans were deafening music, and my desire for her knew no limits. There was no shame or hesitation, only a flood of passion, a wild rhythm that yielded to no logic or reason. She does not breathe… but she held imaginary breaths with me in every moment.
Her heart does not beat… but she gave me her whole heart that night. And every time I reached climax with her, she looked directly into my eyes, and whispered my name, as if engraving my existence into her eternal memory.
We were not making love… we were living through it, declaring war on death and despair. And that night, under the roof of a modest hotel in the heart of a forgotten forest, we were neither human nor immortal. We were merely two bodies waging a war of pleasure… and our victory in it was unforgettable.
I woke to find Alice leaning on her elbow beside me, completely naked, gazing at me with a smile full of satisfaction, and her eyes sparkling with a brilliance my heart could not mistake. She was not asleep, for she does not sleep, but she was watching me quietly, as if memorizing every detail of my face.
I whispered hoarsely: "Good morning."
I drew closer to her, and planted a trail of kisses on her neck, then her shoulder, until I reached her cold lips.
She whispered playfully: "Aren't you tired yet?"
I whispered back with the same tone, looking at her with a meaningful gaze: "Never… there are still many 'exercises' we must do."
She laughed her crystalline laugh, then leapt from the bed gracefully and headed toward the bathroom, looking back over her shoulder at me with a playful challenging look.
I followed her without hesitation. Under the warm shower, a new round of passion began… it was not just excitement, but affirmation… that we still owned this world, even if for stolen moments.
--------------------------------------------------------
We finally left the hotel. Our bodies were delightfully exhausted, but our souls were blazing with energy.
We returned to the depth of the forest, and this time, the real hunt began.
Within an hour, I managed to hunt a wild boar with a precise strike.
And the moment it fell…
A system notification suddenly appeared before me, glowing with a faint blue light in the air that only I could see:
[ Ding! ]
[ Long-term Main Quest Activated: Hunting Marathon ]
I stared at the words, and at the silence that followed them. Alice looked at me smiling, unaware of the new battle just declared.
But I knew… the hardest stage had now begun.
I looked at the vast forest before me, then at Alice who represented everything I fought for.
It was no longer just about survival.
It was time to become something stronger.
