Chapter 42 - Chapter 41: Getting some Work out of the way

Tet sat sprawled on his couch in his realm, staring at the ceiling as if it held the answers.

He ran through his mental list of recent exploits, murmuring, "Let's see… I grabbed a morally questionable soul and sent them into the World of Overlord with six wishes." He sighed, as though surprised even by himself.

Beside him, Apollo raised an eyebrow, curiosity in his voice: "That's not like you. You sent someone pretty much guaranteed to become an evil overlord—to kill another evil overlord. Why didn't you just send your Horsemen?"

Tet's eyes glinted. "Because my Horsemen—like you just said—are mine a part of my forces. Nihil, as he now calls himself, is an independent party. He could rise to godhood on his own. That's why I'm also making sure he goes to worlds already fucked, to take down people worse than him—so they don't become gods and threaten the greater Omniverse."

Apollo frowned. "The fuck's an Omniverse?"

Tet gave a lazy shrug. "A collection of multiverses would be the quick explanation, but I don't have time for the full one. As for why I chose someone evil, the answer is simple: I couldn't risk sending a good guy who might do something stupid—like appeal to Ainz's humanity… not that he has any left."

He paused, smirking.

"But next on the list," he continued, louder now, "I need to find some backup to send Castiel. They'll manage the next singularity fine, but one super-angel isn't enough for that crazy-ass place."

Apollo blinked. "What about teams RWBY and JNPR?"

Tet shook his head, lips twitching. "No—they're too green. They need more experience before I'd consider them. Maybe another angel—nah, I don't like repeating myself if I can help it. Oh! Instead of an angel, I'll send a demon, a goddess, and maybe a certain superpowered human… just have to see if they're up for it. I'm also going to send more summoning tickets to Nihil—mostly to mess with him, but also because he needs help."

He adjusted himself, lean and confident. "Alright Apollo, while I'm gone, please make sure Hermes doesn't recruit anyone too dangerous for that heist he thinks I don't know about."

Apollo slumped slightly, resigned but amused. "I'll try. But… where are you going?"

Tet rose, stretching casually. "I need to take care of something."

Then—just like that—he was gone.

Suddenly, Tet appeared on Remnant, dragging Hades behind him.

Hades, still in his pajamas, glared. "This is so undignified—I was sleeping!"

Tet grinned wickedly. "Just hush and take a look."

Hades got to his feet, dusted off his robes, and surveyed the scene, expression hardening. "You should've killed the two gods you took this place from. Souls shouldn't be made to suffer like this."

When it was Hades speaking, it sounded genuinely foreboding.

"How bad is it?" Tet asked, voice oddly tense.

Hades turned away. "They don't have an afterlife. They're floating in the void, in constant pain, until they fade into nothing. Even I'm not capable of this level of cruelty. Give me a few moments—I'll connect this place to the Underworld, and my people will… unfortunately… be forced to work a lot of unplanned overtime."

Tet nodded, trying to sound helpful. "If it helps, I'll cover their travel fees."

Hades softened—for a moment. "That does... actually. But I'm planning to abolish that in the future. We shouldn't be charging people to die—it was a stupid law Zeus came up with to make me look worse than I already did."

(Author's Note: Don't know if that's true—made it up 'cause I don't really like Zeus.)

As souls began their transition, Tet's eyes flicked to one in particular. He grabbed it.

Hades stiffened. "We shouldn't carelessly bring the dead back."

Tet stared, expression sharp. "Where was that line when I snuck into your realm and resurrected your son? "

Hades coughed, awkward. "That was different. Bill didn't deserve his fate."

Tet rolled his eyes. "I agree. But this one didn't either—her death was just stupidity. Challenging the final boss with no backup or escape plan."

He held out a glowing golden key toward the soul. "Anyway, I'm not giving it away for free. I just happen to need more Horsemen."

"Will you accept," he pushed the key forward, "or go to the Underworld?"

The soul shimmered, silent—until it reached for the key and vanished in a flash of gold.

Tet watched, satisfied. "Can't wait to have you in the fold—Fury."

He smirked at Hades. "Alright Hades, I think we're done for now."

Then Hades returned to his realm, but Tet went somewhere else.

He appeared in front of a large tavern shaped like a hat. This place was appropriately named The Boar Hat Tavern.

As he entered, he saw Escanor—currently in his regular form—polishing a glass with his usual calm precision.

Escanor looked up, his polite expression unchanging. "Sorry, sir, we're not open for business yet."

Then recognition crossed his face, and he added, "Oh, it's you, Tet. How's Miss Merlin?"

Tet gave a small, knowing smile. "Oh, she's doing fine—having a lot of fun too, from what I can tell."

Tet walked casually to the bar, taking a seat and leaning forward. "Is Meliodas around?"

Escanor glanced toward the door. "He should be back any moment."

And, as if on cue, Meliodas walked in with Elizabeth at his side, followed by the other five Sins.

(Author's Note: I'm not describing them—we'd be here all day if I did.)

Meliodas's brows rose in surprise. "Well, there's a face I didn't expect to see. What brings a god to my tavern?"

Tet leaned back slightly. "I've got a job for the Sins."

Ban crossed his arms with a smirk. "I ain't gonna be a teacher."

King floated slightly higher, frowning. "Me neither."

Tet shook his head. "No. You'll be going somewhere fairly dangerous—fighting monsters, gods, soldiers, undead… all kinds of other crazy stuff—to help prevent the end of the world."

At that, they all blinked in unison.

Meliodas let out a low whistle. "I don't think I can have this conversation sober." He walked to the bar, poured himself a drink, and downed a sip before continuing. "We're already dealing with stuff here, you know."

Tet replied evenly, "And I can drop you off in the exact point in time you left. I'll be paying you."

Meliodas tilted his head. "How? In what?"

Tet smiled faintly. "I'll give each Sin one wish of their choice upon the job's completion. And Lady Elizabeth is included in that reward as well."

Hawk, who had been sitting quietly on the counter, suddenly shouted, "Hey! What about me?!"

Tet blinked, then chuckled. "Oh—I actually forgot you were here."

Ban grinned. "I'm in."

The others turned toward him.

Meliodas raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure?"

"The wish can be whatever we want, right? I'll use mine to bring back Elaine," Ban said firmly. "How long's the job?"

Tet tapped his chin. "It'll probably be a couple of years—potentially longer—but no time will pass here. And I'll place a spell to keep Elizabeth and Escanor from aging."

Gowther adjusted his glasses. "I'll also go. Seeing another world could be… educational."

King sighed. "I'm going too. Someone has to make sure Ban doesn't make things worse."

Diane smiled warmly. "If King's going, so am I."

"Oh, that reminds me," Tet said, forming a glowing orb of light in his palm. He handed it to Diane. "Absorb that, and you'll be able to change size at will."

Diane's face lit up as she absorbed the magic. "Yes! Now I don't need Merlin's help anymore."

Escanor placed a hand over his chest. "I'll go as well. It's the duty of a knight to help those in trouble."

Finally, Meliodas drained the last of his drink and set the mug down with a light thunk. "If these guys are all going, then as their captain I can't exactly stay behind."

Elizabeth stepped forward with a gentle smile. "I'll go as well."

Tet nodded once. "Alright. I'll let them all know you're coming. Prepare what you need, and I'll be back for you later."

And with that, Tet vanished.
