Chapter 4 - 1.3 - MY DREAM-ALIKE SCHOOL LIFE : HAD THE DESCARTES DEMON EXISTED

"Ayanokouji-kun, are you all right?"

Oh no, it was coming. That creature was here again. And here it comes, that very much-dreaded nightmarish situation I feared at most. And at the very moment when I had acted as if I was already 'dead', such a being by all of sudden emerged to haunt my life forever.

It was a demon who would force me (napping) to wake up to reality.

While then, Dmitri Shostakovich's 11th symphony was playing in my brain. This song composition perfectly described my current predicament: a feeling of desperation similar to people being chased by a demon, as if the end of the world was rapidly approaching.

And even with my eyes closed, I know. Had this Descartes demon really existed, it would have been right next to me. I could feel the devil's foreboding presence beside me, waiting for the slave to awaken... Now that I am a slave, how can I escape from this situation...? To avoid any further danger, I made use of my computer-alike brain to quickly find then simulate the answer.

Conclusion... Pretend not to hear anything while you are 'dead'. I called this method: "Feigning fainting". And with this strategy, I will be able to overcome my difficulties quite easily. And no, this is not quite an indicator of me suffering from some kind of somatic symptom disorder, let alone Munchausen syndrome by or not by proxy; it's something different, I will explain:

If the person who did the talking is a nice person, she will ignore him then say, 'Fufufu~ Well, It's all right if you insist to not wake up. If you don't wake up, I'm going to tickle and hug you from behind, hehehe~'. And even patterns like 'Aw, too bad! I'll kiss you if you don't wake up, okay? Chuu~~' is also fine, especially if it were to be done on the forehead, cheek, especially if I were to be lucky enough.

"If you don't wake up in 3 seconds, you will get a punishment."

Alright, hold on... how did she know?

"Okay wait, what do you mean by 'punishment' here?"

Oh no, she figured it out, she got me. Within less than a second, the 'feigning fainting' strategy was foiled as I succumbed to threat. Yet still, I refused to raise my head and continued to resist.

"Look, as expected, you're awake."

I then responded to such statement cheekily.

"I already know your disorder when I make you angry."

"That's good then, do you have time?"

Is this another way to ask me to do her a favour?

"And if I say no?"

"Well... I can't force you then, but I'll be angry if you don't."

Wait a minute... 'What do you mean by angry?' was what I thought.

And just before I had pondered about it, she then continued,

"And if I get angry, I'll be a big obstacle to Ayanokouji-kun's normal school life, you know. And to destroy your 'exceptionally' normal school life, I will do something like, hmm... for example, put lots of little stones on your chair, splashing water on your head every time you go to the toilet and sometimes poking you with a compass needle and not to mention that I know multitude of ways to torture you using a compass needle. That kind of behaviour, yup. "

Okay, it appeared that went too far. And hold on, didn't she say 'multitude of ways to torture' me with a single compass needle? How did that the latter sound eerily familiar at all?

"That's just a plain harassment! And that last one seems really odd, as if I remember being stabbed!"

I got up reluctantly and sat down in my chair. A girl with long black hair and sharp, beautiful eyes, in a condescending manner, looked down at me from the side. Her name is Horikita Suzune. High school class 1-D, my classmate. And yes, you heard that correctly.

"Don't be afraid, it's just a joke, I won't pour water on you from above while you're in the toilet."

"No, those aren't just jokes! More importantly tacks and compass needles! Look at this, and this! You can still see where I was stabbed! How can you be responsible if it becomes a scar for life?!"

I rolled up my right sleeve and showed Horikita my upper arm.

"Where's the proof?"

"Huh?"

What was she trying to say here?

"Where is the proof? Are you saying that I'm the culprit without evidence?"

Of course, there was no evidence. Although the only person close enough to stabbed me was Horikita, and even though she was holding a compass needle in her hand, it's hard to say for sure... In any case, there was something important for me to confirm.

"Do I really have to help? I'll think about it some more, but in any case..."

"Hey Ayanokouji-kun, regretting your decisions when you're desperate or when you are suffering... Which one would you prefer? Since you're pulling me away from my responsibility, you have to take responsibility."

"Really?"

Horikita only offered two frivolous and extreme choices. Apparently, it seems that she will not compromise: It was a mistake to to make a contract with the devil. I decided to give in and obey.

"...So, what should I do?"

I asked while trembling in fear. I wouldn't be surprised to hear what she asked of me.

I don't know how things got this way, but I remember when it all started. I met this girl exactly two months ago. Was it during the day of the entrance ceremony...?

I couldn't help but forget everything related to it. No, it's rather that I wouldn't have to remember it at all, considering the circumstances I have had gone through because of this.
