Chapter 7 - Stone Mining and Repairing

I knew not how many days had passed since I reincarnated into this world. And to be honest, I didn't want to know. I just wanted to enjoy the moments that I lived in. And so, one fine day, I decided to set on repairing the stone house that I was currently living in. I knew that villager characters had the ability to build and repair things but I had not often seen them applying it on houses. They would mostly be sent to repair more important buildings like castles and watch towers etc.

Anyhow, I selected the option to repair and a silver hammer appeared in my hands. I was about to start repairing when my status box showed me the following message: "You have no stones in your stockpile". This made me realise that I needed to first gather materials before I could build or repair.

I gathered a mining axe and an ore pan which I was lucky to find and set off in search of a mine. As I walked along, I was filled with thoughts about what a very quiet place it was to be in. There was nobody around me to tell me what to do. It was just me. Nobody could tell me what to do, where to go, berate me for my actions etcetera etcetera. It was fine with me. With my speed cheat, I was able to travel quickly and soon came across a stone mine.

I began to cut away at the rock once I settled down and slowly I was able to cut out a block of stone. My next concern was how I would carry it. I recalled that Villager characters could carry a certain amount of resources in their arms. In the event of danger, they had very weak defensive and offensive attributes. They were able to switch between occupations without dropping the resources that they carried at the time of engagement in that particular job.

Imagine my surprise when my status window showed me an option called "item box". I selected it and a black hole appeared in front of me. I was able to lift the stone block I had mined and throw it into the item box hole effortlessly. I wondered how much the item box could hold as there was no details regarding the same. I decided to ignore it for now.

I decided that a hundred blocks of stone would be more than enough. If I had any stone left over, I could probably use it o build or maybe repair something else. I set to work on mining further. Once I had the required stone, I packed up my tools, strapped them to my back and started for home. I reached the settlement a little before noon. It was amazing to realize how much time had passed while I had worked. It was like I had moved faster than the day, which was probably because I had. I rested for a while in the shade of a tree near the well and then I ate some of the fruits and berries that I had scavenged. I then decided to take a short nap before I set about repairing the house.

Now fully stocked with the stone I needed, I selected the repair option again and the silver hammer appeared in my hand again. I set to work without any setbacks this time, and soon finished repairing the house in half an hour. I checked my item box and found that I had utilised twenty five of the stone blocks that I had mined for repairing the house. I supposed that for a house to be repaired, the amount of resources that were deducted from my stock would depend upon the extent of the damage.

While repairing, I noticed that there was a dark line that stretched out across the lintel at the doorway. I understood this to be the health bar of the building. It kept getting longer as I kept on pounding with my hammer. Once it could stretch no more, I received a notification on my status box saying that the building was fully repaired and ready for me to occupy.

I took a bath by the well after this repair work. I now stood proudly, gazing at my handiwork. I knelt down, and prayed to whatever the deities that looked after this world, to bless my newly repaired home, and then entered it. When night neared, I whipped up some warm deermeat for my dinner and then lay down to sleep in my new home, after a well worked day of stone mining and repairing.
