Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: When the Storm Clears

Ren stood drenched, staring at the shattered remains of Darius. His body had disintegrated into pieces of ice, leaving nothing behind. It was a sight that made Ren's stomach churn. He stepped closer to examine what was left, but there was no trace of the man. This is what happens when someone exceeds their limits with magic, Ren thought, his mind struggling to process the destruction.

As Ren looked around at the place the half of the village has been destroyed. Ren says,"I really hoped if he could tell me the name of the ruler as no one really knows what his name is .

At least The village didn't get completely destroyed.

Scene shifted

Far away, within the throne hall, a shadowy figure sat, his face partly concealed. He smirked. "So, the soldiers sent to Madi didn't wipe it out? What a disappointment."

Despite the devastation, there was a sliver of hope—they had managed to keep the village from total destruction.

Suddenly, Ren's thoughts were interrupted as his head began to throb again. My god, my head still hurts. It felt like the poison was wearing off, but the pain lingered. As he stood, still recovering, he noticed one soldier trying to get up. Before Ren could react, the soldier's head exploded, leaving only a bloody mess behind.

Ren's breath caught in his throat. One by one, the other soldiers who had survived were dropping like flies, their heads exploding without warning. Ren stumbled back, horrified by the scene unfolding before him.

With his mind in a panic, Ren raced to the spot where Akito and Ryota had gone. He was terrified. Why are the soldiers dying? How is this happening? When Ren found them, Akito was standing, calm, and Ryota was still unconscious. The sight of them both alive was a brief relief.

They're safe... for now.

Akito, seeing Ren's disoriented state, approached. "Thanks to you, Ren, Ryota, and the soldiers fought bravely to protect the village from the magic beast. You all did well."

Ren, still in shock, spoke without thinking. "Wait, the magic beast didn't do this. It was those royal soldiers! They were destroying the village just an hour ago!"

Akito's eyes hardened in disbelief. "No, that's not true. Those soldiers protected us—they gave their lives to defend this village. How could you say such things about them?"

Ren's face twisted with confusion. "They tried to kill you! I saved you from them!

Akito shook his head slowly. "No, Ren. You protected me from the magic beast. Those soldiers weren't attacking us—they were fighting to protect this place from the same monster you were battling."

Ren's panic deepened. "But... the ice guy? What about him? He was attacking me!"

Akito seemed lost for a moment. "No, Ren, you fought the beast while Ryota was unconscious. You don't remember? The ice guy was killed, and you survived to defeat the beast."

Ren's eyes widened in shock. "So... where's the body of the magic beast?"

Akito paused, confusion flickering across his face. "Oh... right. Where is it?" A small, almost amused smile flickered on Ren lips, but it quickly faded as Akito head suddenly exploded in an instant.

Ren froze in place. His hands trembled violently, and his legs gave way. Why? he thought, Why did this happen? His mind was in chaos, and his thoughts raced in every direction. How did I let this happen? Why didn't the Foresight get activated? His entire body trembled as he realized the magnitude of his mistake. I've allowed an innocent person to die. This is my fault.

A villager approached, his eyes uncertain. "Is that someone you know?"

Ren could barely respond, his voice shaky. "No... he was just living in this village.

Then the Villager said,"But, I don't remember him, I think nobody ever saw him."

Just then, Ryota stirred, groggily waking up. "Did we defeat the magic beast?" he asked weakly.

Ren, still shaken, nodded, but his voice was full of guilt. "Yes, we did. But... why did I do it? Why did I let this happen?"

Ryota looked at him with concern. "You're okay, Ren. Let's get out of the village ."

Ren, still reeling from the events, agreed, but as they walked toward their house, a shocking sight stopped them cold. The house had been completely destroyed—nothing remained but ruins.

Ryota gasped. "What happened here?"

Ren's mind spun again. Did they... get killed? No, they couldn't have... They were strong. They couldn't have been defeated so easily. Or maybe... they left us. No... they left us.

Ren's thoughts spiraled back to Kenji Takamura. Wait, where did I meet him? Why did I trust him? Why did he live in that place?

Just then, Ryota snapped him out of his spiraling thoughts. "Ren, let's go. We can't stay here."

Ren nodded, though his mind was still clouded. They began walking toward the village. Off in the distance, Misaki and Airi watched them. Airi spoke softly, "Isn't it bad for his mental state? He's been through so much in such a short time."

Misaki replied, "It's all part of his growth. A situation like this will happen again. He needs to be prepared. His spark of revenge will turn into a fire."

Airi asked, "Aren't you going to tell them about Hex?"

Misaki smiled. "I was planning to, but the situation has changed. He'll learn about it on his own."

Airi asked again, "What about the monster you were talking about?"

Misaki's smile widened. "One of the greatest soldiers he wanted on his side."

Airi raised an eyebrow. "What about Kenji? What will he do?"

Misaki's expression grew serious. "Kenji will protect his friends, and return to the castle."

The scene shifted again to Kenji Takamura, standing outside with the weight of the world on his shoulders. "Since it's our lord's order, and you're his friend, you'll come to the castle," Kenshi said, his voice calm but firm. Using Celestial Magic Domain, he turned the house into a black sphere and teleported away, leaving only emptiness behind.

Back with Misaki and Airi, Airi asked, "What about us? What will we do?"

Misaki turned, his face unreadable. "We'll prepare. We'll notify everyone that the war is coming and our lord is returning."
