Chapter 2 - A girl

It was beautiful bright and early in the morning. Rowan's eyes slowly opened to the canopies overhead. A crack of sunlight slightly warming his face.

He lifted his hands to his forehead and he winced. In a matter of seconds the pain dissipated and he was suddenly better.

A womanly figure hovered over his face. With her hands trucking her long hair back. She says, " You're awake."

His eyes widened, and he crawls backward against the nearest tree. Looking damn near Petrified.

She floats over, inspecting him for something. " It didn't work..." She murmurs to herself. " he is practically fixed to the ground."

Her entirety was floating. Her skin looked like it was made of smooth glass and her hair was almost liquid-like draping down to her feet. Her color of her eyes were glass like as well .The dress she wore resembled silvermist and she wore boots on her feet, which was absolutely the oddest thing about her.

She was at least around Bria's height or shorter, and Bria was tall compared to most girls. She had to be about five-eight. The woman was also not as skinny as Bria either.

She watches him for several seconds. " He's not talking..." she mutters to herself. Almost like out of habit. "Are you mute or something?" Her voice sounding concerned.

" What are you?" Roman finally asks, still against the tree.

She floats backward. " So you speak? I think you people call me the menace, was it?" She turns upside down. "It's really incoherent when all I can hear is screaming."

" You're the forest manace...?"

" Mhmm." She nods.

" You're a girl..."

She tilts her head. "That's a little backward thinking... don't you think?"

" I don't mean it like that. You're just..." His eyes roam over her, unable to look away from the details of her skin. " Nothing like I thought you'd be..."

She blinks back, unsure of what to say in response. " Well, now that is out of the way. I'm trying to figure out why you don't have it?" She uses the vines to lift him.

" What...?"

" The curse." She casually says. " You hit the tree so I don't understand why I'm still floating, and you're not?"

The events of the previous night came rushing to him. The bugs, the lights, the sword, the song.

His brows furrows. " You were in my head yesterday. Trancing to make me hurt the sacred tree."

She twirls her finger, the vines wrapping around Rowan's chest and legs tightly.

The woman seemed to be looking through him rather than at him. As if, he was of little importance to her.

The vines reach climb slightly under the hem of him pants and shirt. A ticklish sensations creeping onto his skin.

" Stop that!" He exclaims. The vines clasp over his mouth prevent from further speaking. His rants become muffled in the air.

" I wonder if I should get rid of you or find another way to pass on the curse. Why didn't it work? The oldie distinctly said it would work."

Rowan didn't understand a single word she said. He wasn't sure what he should do either. He was completely at the menace's mercy and there was nothing one could do.

Except he wasn't some ordinary man.

Using his free hand to conjure fire from the tip of finger to burn the vines.

The fire doesn't burn the vines but send them into retreat. He is immediately met with a burning pain all over his skin. Last for a second too long.

Him and the woman both cry out in pain at the same time.

They both pant and stare at each other as the pain dissipates. The look of utter confusion on their face.

What the hell?

Rowan grasps himself immediately and starts to back away from her. " I won't tell anyone I saw you. Just let me leave." His voice raspy. " I don't even have a reason to do that."

The lady just stares at him. Her fist clenching the ground. Her hair, skin and eyes slowly turn grayish blue.

He felt a tinge in his chest and tears were welling up in his own eyes. An overwhelming feeling of sadness rushed over him.

Why would I feel sad for someone that tried to hurt me? He asks himself.

He blinks back the tears and starts to back away. " I'll be going now. Okay?"

Rowan starts a sprint as soon as she disappears from his sight. The visual of her crying playing in his head. He comes to a half when he realizes he doesn't really know where he is or going.

He looks around him and realizes that he's in large purple top mushroom field. The mushrooms towered over him, some slightly shorter. The mist around him full of purple spores.

He spots the flower sprit and thinks of how useful it would be back at the tower.

With the use of his power he draws it to himself "Got you."

His hold on the sprite tightens and he feels pain around his head. It felt like a clamp was on it.

He releases the sprite and falls to the ground. Now, he couldn't help but wonder.

Suddenly, vines encroach the area protecting the little sprite.

The area is covered with a fog that reveals the girl. " I can't believe you. You couldn't even run away properly."

He steps back, examining himself. " Did you feel that?"

" What?" Her tone was sour.

" What hurt just now? What part of your body?"

She lowers herself to be near the sprite. " My head. What does that have to with anything, you're hurting the poor thing."

Rowan is in disbelief. He squeezes the sprite again using his powers. The both of them clutch their head, the pain too much to be ignored.

They lock eyes again, only this time in realization.
