Chapter 16 - Blue Moons

"That?" Moj sighed. "It's a reactor we were planning to use tonight to extract the immense magical energy from the presence of the blue moons."

"So, what are you going to do now that I've killed your boss?" Saitama pointed towards the boss's half-cut body. "I guess you won't be needing this machine then."

"Our unit has been completely defeated by you," Moj said, breaking into a harsh cough. "The boss and I were the only non-monster fighters, and the monster ones are already dead. I don't think I have much time left either."

"You are a beast, a monster in the face of a sapohuman. People like you are on a level that we normals cannot reach," Moj shook his head as crimson blood spilled from his bleeding arm, tip-tapping on the ground.

Saitama stared at the reactor's vivid wiring. "Before you die, can you tell me where your main base is?"

Out of confusion, Moj started to furrow his eyebrow. "Uhh... Do you intend to destroy our headquarters as well?"

"Yes," Saitama nodded, instantly constructing a giant hole in the reactor. "I have some business with them."

After enduring countless surprises and injuries that night, Moj no longer had the strength to be impressed—or to react at all. Falling to his knees, he murmured, "They fed me an instant-death insect as a security measure, but today, I'll use the last of my strength to reveal at least its location. They deserve a good beating."

Glistening drops of salty tears began to fall on the ground.

PIT-PAT!

TIP-TAP!

"I still remember the day Arplesis burnt down our village," He slowly fixed his gaze on Saitama as he returned to a flashback.

Wherever the eyes went, there was chaos. All of the once-standing luxurious buildings, shallow slums, muddy huts, and medieval-styled homes were burning down to a crisp. The gleaming orange fire spread everywhere, the ground painted red, the dead bodies of children and naked women lying lifeless.

"Mom..." Young Moj was lying on a cart, one of his eyes bleeding. "My Village..."

The cart suddenly began to move with a slight thrust. "Noo... W-Where am I going?" He tried to shout, but his voice was unable to reach out.

The shock and fear that his past self saw brought Moj back to reality.

Coughing up blood again, Moj snapped his fingers, a protective barrier forming around his racing heart. "The headquarters are between the Newtown and the Centertown, located in the middle of the planet and it is undergrou-"

SPLATTER!

In an instant, Moj's heart burst into countless pieces, making his crimson-colored body lay lifeless on the shattered ground.

"But that didn't help me at all," Saitama scratched his belly. "How am I supposed to know where those places are?"

Turning towards the direction of the city, Saitama sighed. "Maybe I'll ask Marcus or the mayor."

He walked away as the cold winds started to blow, and slowly, the moons in the dark, red sky began to fade away.

After a few minutes, Saitama stood in front of the giant metal doors, staring into the dwindling sky.

"Is it just me, or are the moons missing?" Saitama muttered as he knocked on one of the doors.

Suddenly, a voice roared. "Who are you? What business do you have in the city?"

"I'm Saitama," He looked around, wondering about the source of the voice.

"Oh, Mr. Saitama! The mayor asked me to take you to his office once you were back," The voice replied in an excited tone.

Slowly, the doors opened, and Saitama entered inside.

Several minutes passed, and Saitama was inside the mayor's cabin.

The mayor was sitting on his chair, his chin resting on his hands. He spoke, "I heard strange voices outside, so I was about to send reinforcements."

He then shook his head and sighed. "But, I think it was unnecessary."

After a slight pause, he continued, "So, what were the Arplesis planning?"

"There was some giant machine outside, and an old guy with a katana tried to attack me," Saitama replied, gesturing with one of his hands.

"So they had plans to collect the magic energy tonight..." The mayor turned around, staring towards the red sky. "You may have noticed that the moons have disappeared."

"Oh!" Saitama nodded.

The mayor continued, "Within a few minutes, all of them are going to reappear—colored in blue."

He stood up and walked towards the window. "By the look on your face, I think you have some questions for me, am I right?"

"Hoho!" Saitama exclaimed. "I got information on their headquarters."

The mayor swiftly turned around, his eyes widened, his mouth agape. "Is that true, Mr. Saitama?"

"One of their members told me that the headquarters are somewhere between Newtown and Centertown," Saitama started to scratch his head. "Or, maybe it was Newton and centipede."

"Newtown and Centertown!?" The mayor shouted. "B-But they have been assessed multiple times..."

After a few moments of silence, the mayor sat back on his chair, resting his forehead on his hand. "Oh, I understand!"

"The nation of Militia is probably mixed up with the Arplesis," He muttered.

Rubbing his forehead on his hand, the mayor continued, "I suppose you want to head there? Well, Marcus can take you there. He is alright now, thanks to you."

Saitama nodded, and suddenly, a deafening roar echoed throughout the sky. Within the blink of an eye, the red and dark sky started to illuminate in the shades of blue.

It created a mesmerizing pattern with the sudden appearance of The Blue Moons.

"The moment has arrived," The mayor fixed his gaze on the sky. "The first part of the legend has unfolded."

Within a few moments, another thundering roar reverberated throughout the sky. This time, it covered the atmosphere with a thin layer of shiny blue and red particles. The entire city, tall skyscrapers, medieval buildings, everything looked like it was shining. It seemed like the almighty had ascended to the planet.

"And, this is the second part of the legend," The mayor waved his hand, creating an air pressure that moved the particles around. "The arrival of the immense magic energy."
