Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Tide Turns

"Where did you get the chakra… to control me?!"

Manda's emerald eyes were full of confusion as it struggled to speak. Under the influence of the Mangekyō's Yin Release chakra imprint, its mind gradually dulled.

It tried with all its might to writhe its massive body, but it was like an ancient serpent slipping into hibernation. Eventually, even its once mountain-crushing frame could no longer budge.

The moment it made eye contact with Yu—

Manda felt as if it had fallen into a freezing abyss.

It couldn't accept that, as the King of the Snakes from Ryūchi Cave, it had been controlled by a mere human. Rage and humiliation flooded its mind.

Damn Uchiha!!

Manda roared, fangs bared, forked tongue lashing wildly.

Buzz—

A crimson light flashed and spread like a beam.

Inside Manda's green pupils, the blade-shaped imprint of the Yasakani kept pouring out Yin chakra, fully subjugating it—rendering it incapable of even uttering a word.

"..."

Uchiha Yu shifted his gaze from Manda's immobilized body to the cliff where Orochimaru stood. Then he turned and instructed the Uchiha around him:

"Eat some military ration pills. Rest here."

Stunned, the Uchiha, Nonoyu, and Kimimaro stared at Yu's back, but quickly followed his orders and began eating the pills.

They looked around.

The group of enemy shinobi who had just launched a fierce assault now stood dazed in the fast-growing Wood Release forest, their pupils glowing red.

"I think… I understand now,"

Nonoyu murmured, her misty eyes trembling as she stared ahead.

She guessed that Yu had probably borrowed their chakra to resist that second wave of attacks—

—and turned the hopeless situation around.

His ocular powers were terrifying beyond belief.

At the forest's edge…

Yu removed his hood, revealing his face to the freezing rain. He raised his black blade, stepped over the remains of Wood Release vines, and calmly walked toward the massive army of shinobi still gathered down the slope.

"..."

The manipulated ninja around him, their pupils glowing red, could only watch helplessly as Yu passed them by, moving toward the others.

It's over. It's all over!

No one would come to save them.

A range of emotions surged in the hearts of the shinobi.

Yu's eyes were calm. One man, one blade, walking through the downpour—every step he took down the slope caused the enemy shinobi to retreat further.

He passed by Manda, still as a mountain.

Yu didn't spare it a glance.

Normally, even if Yu drained all the chakra from the Uchiha around him, he still couldn't control a summon of Manda's caliber instantly.

Manda, Gamabunta, and Katsuyu—these three summoning beasts were the strongest across the three great sacred lands. Their spiritual strength and chakra levels were just below Tailed Beasts but far beyond ordinary summons.

At this moment, Yu had absorbed chakra from over 1,500 ninja and used a portion of it to imprint Manda.

Now, those 1,500 shinobi—along with Manda—had become mobile chakra reservoirs for Uchiha Yu.

Meanwhile…

Valley of Judgment, cliffside.

Tsunade and Jiraiya noticed Manda's unusual condition and sensed that Yu had briefly glanced their way.

They looked at Orochimaru.

Manda was Orochimaru's signature summon. And now? Controlled like it was nothing. Could Orochimaru really stay calm?

"That beast has always been rebellious. It's good someone finally taught it a lesson."

Orochimaru replied coolly, unfazed.

Jiraiya and Tsunade looked back toward the battlefield. They were shaken by how effortlessly Yu had subdued Manda.

They were equally surprised at Orochimaru's attitude toward Yu.

"Uchiha Yu… is extremely dangerous,"

Jiraiya assessed silently.

Tsunade felt bitterness and frustration welling up inside.

Konoha's leadership, by mishandling the Uchiha situation, had created a powerful enemy with their own hands.

He once belonged to Konoha—his strength should have belonged to Konoha!

The Other Side of the Cliff

"Hurry—quickly… record this… Uchiha Yu's Mangekyō Sharingan has the ability to absorb chakra!!"

"And also, immediately pass on the command: have the Konoha shinobi and Sunagakure reinforcements pull back and set up defensive formations."

"We're preparing to retreat!!"

Hiashi Hyuga's Byakugan contracted sharply. His weathered face was now frosted over with cold resolve as he rapidly issued orders.

Danzo's death…

The only intel Konoha had on Uchiha Yu's Mangekyō was that it could control a shinobi's mind. No one had known it could absorb chakra.

But now…

Hiashi's expression darkened. His jaw clenched as he instinctively balled his fists. He realized how dire the situation truly was—

—and even began to regret stepping onto the field.

"Y-yes!"

The Hyuga branch family shinobi responsible for recording intel looked terrified, his right hand trembling violently as he clutched his pen, stammering out a reply.

A clansman stood next to him holding an umbrella against the rain, while the others had activated their Byakugan, all watching the battlefield intently.

The sight before them—

Filled the Hyuga clan with fear.

At the front of the Valley of Judgment—

Within the black-and-white vision of Hiashi and the others, Manda's mountainous body was burning with blue chakra flames. The shinobi controlled by the Yasakani all had flickering embers of chakra burning in their eye sockets.

Between heaven and earth—

Those blue chakra flames stretched into fine threads, all connected to Uchiha Yu.

He was continuously drawing chakra from them.

If it were only this—

Hiashi and the Hyuga might not have been so terrified.

The most horrifying part was this:

Yu was acting as a conduit, taking the chakra fed into him by the Yasakani and converting it via his Mangekyō Sharingan. Through his line of sight, the chakra was transmitted outward again, forming countless fine threads that tethered to shinobi not yet under his control.

Because the chakra being funneled into him was so abundant, the effective range of the Yasakani was expanding rapidly—instantly surpassing a radius of 500 meters.

Within moments—

All Yu had to do was glance at the remaining ninja, and in that instant, nearly five thousand more were ensnared through this rolling tide of chakra compounding on itself.

The nearby Sannin didn't yet grasp how terrifying this was. But the Hyuga, gifted with Byakugan, who saw the true form of this technique—were already beginning to feel the helpless despair of confronting a monster.

The sheer volume of chakra—vast as a stormy ocean—seemed like it could reduce them to dust if it were unleashed in full force.

"It's too late, Clan Head!!"

A Hyuga branch member, pale-faced, returned at a sprint and knelt before Hiashi, shouting in panic.

He had been sent to relay Hiashi's orders down the mountain—but before he even made it halfway, his Byakugan had already seen what the others just witnessed.

"We're leaving!!"

Hiashi didn't hesitate. He issued the retreat command at once.

"YES—!!"

The Hyuga branch shinobi gathered around their clan leader. None of them could believe it…

The tide had turned.

So quickly.

They had deployed over ten thousand shinobi—even if their strength varied widely.

But even if they'd all just stood there waiting to die, it shouldn't have ended this fast.

Hiashi's brow furrowed so tightly it almost knotted.

If Uchiha Yu's Mangekyō Sharingan could absorb chakra, then that meant the battlefield was essentially his personal domain. The more enemies there were… the stronger he became!

"We must get this intel back!"

Hiashi gritted his teeth, picked up his pace, and led the retreat down the cliff.

He wasn't in full panic—because he knew someone would cover their escape.

---

Valley of Judgment.

Beside Manda—

Uchiha Yu gazed into the direction the Hyuga were fleeing. His Mangekyō trembled faintly as he spoke coldly:

"Since you've come… then stay here forever."
