Charlotte Smith paused slightly on the phone, then softly said, "Is there really no room to maneuver with Mr. Stephens' situation?"
Ryan Smith started the car.
He looked ahead and said calmly, "The information has been submitted to the police. The remaining matters are beyond both your and my control."
"..."
"Did you call to plead for him?"
"... Ryan."
Ryan thought it was somewhat unbelievable, and even felt a hint of amusement.
"Have you forgotten how he's treated you all these years?" Suddenly stopping the car, Ryan's voice became slightly tense, "Are you suffering from Stockholm syndrome?"
Charlotte replied gently, "I just don't want him to die."
"Robert Stephens must die." Ryan coldly interrupted her.
Charlotte was quiet for a moment, then calmly ended the call.
Ryan sat in the car, lost the mood for driving, leaned back in his seat, and lit a cigarette with a furrowed brow.
If it weren't for Charlotte's calm voice on the phone, he would've thought she'd gone mad.
