Waking up again with that same damn terrible headache was like being reunited with an old, unwanted friend - the kind who shows up uninvited, overstays their welcome, and leaves you feeling like you've been put through a wringer.
My brain was throbbing like a bass drum in a heavy metal band, and I couldn't help but wonder if I'd accidentally traded my brain for a punching bag.
As I looked around, I realized I was still stuck in the same gilded cage - I mean, room - I'd been in earlier.
So, it wasn't a dream, I thought, feeling like I'd just been slapped with a wet fish.
After passing out, I'd hoped to wake up and find myself back home, snug in my own bed, with all the weirdness of the previous day just a distant, fuzzy memory.
But no, fate had to be a bitch, didn't she?
Getting up from the cold marble floor, I decided to head to the bathroom to clear my head.
Or, at the very least, to try and drown my sorrows in a sink full of cold water.
The bathroom was a symphony of opulence - all gleaming white marble, polished silver fixtures, and enough gold accents to make a rapper jealous.
The walls were adorned with intricate frescoes, depicting scenes of... actually, I had no idea what they were depicting, but they looked fancy.
The floor was covered in a plush, snow-white carpet that felt like walking on clouds.
And the shower... oh, the shower was a work of art, with jets of water shooting out from every direction, like a choreographed dance routine.
But, hang on, why was I taking the time to describe all this? I mean, seriously, who cares about the freaking bathroom?!
I've got a headache that's trying to kill me, and I'm stuck in this crazy, mixed-up world. Priorities, Mack, priorities!
I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. Time to focus.
I needed to figure out what was going on, and how to get back home.
And, maybe, just maybe, I could find some aspirin or something to kill this blasted headache.
Splashing water on my face from the sink, I decided to take a cold bath, stripping myself of the clothes I wore.
Hold on, what was I even wearing? I glanced at the cloth on the floor, and my eyes widened in amusement.
It was like a rejected extra from a medieval costume party – all fancy embroidery, golden trim, and enough silk to make a spider jealous.
I stepped inside the bathtub, and my gaze met the behemoth mirror opposite me.
Who in their right mind puts a mirror that large in a bathroom?
It was like they wanted to ensure that I, the lord of this manor (or so I was told), could admire my regal self from every angle.
I shook my head, chuckling at the absurdity of it all.
As I gazed at my new body, which was now inhabited by my humble self, I couldn't help but think that Eden, the previous owner of this flesh, had been a bit of a pretty boy.
His face was chiseled, a masterpiece of angles and curves, like a Greek god who'd lost his way in the mortal realm.
But, aside from that perfect face, his body – now my body – was as dull as a butter knife.
I mean, don't get me wrong, it wasn't like I was staring at a canvas of imperfections or anything.
No, no, no. It was just... well, I had really pale skin, like I'd been locked away in a dungeon for a decade, subsisting solely on a diet of bread and sorrow.
Someone seeing me for the first time would probably think I was at death's door, or that I had some exotic, rare disease that made me look like a walking cadaver.
But, hey, at least I didn't have to worry about getting a tan, right?
As I continued to scrutinize my new body, I realized that it was just... average.
No rippling muscles, no chiseled abs, no bulging biceps.
I was like the human equivalent of a plain cracker – not particularly exciting, but not entirely terrible either.
Few minutes later...
The sweet scent of pink bubble soap still lingered on my skin as I emerged from the bathtub, wrapped in a towel that was as fluffy as a cloud.
I rubbed another towel vigorously over my hair, watching as the water droplets danced down my pale skin like a chorus line of tiny ballerinas.
As I dried myself off, my mind began to wander to the impending doom that was the academy.
Ugh, the academy. Because, of course, I couldn't just have a peaceful, quiet life in this new world.
No, I had to be thrust into a den of hormonal teenagers, all vying for power, prestige, and probably a few poorly-written love triangles.
It was like the universe had decided to take every cliche from the reincarnation genre and mash them all together into a big ol' mess.
And I was just along for the ride, a hapless passenger on the Crazy Train of Clichés.
But, as I stood there, dripping wet and feeling like a drowned rat, I realized that something was off.
Wasn't I supposed to have some kind of...
I don't know, magical system or something? You know, the usual: leveling up, skills, attributes, the whole shebang.
But, as I looked down at my hands, I saw... nothing.
No glowing tattoos, no mysterious markings, no hovering UI windows.
Just my pale, slightly-pruney skin, staring back at me like a blank canvas.
It was as if the universe had decided to play a cruel joke on me, dropping me into this new world without so much as a beginner's guide or a "Welcome to Fantasy Land" pamphlet.
I was flying blind, folks, and it was a terrifying feeling.
But, hey, at least I had my trusty sarcasm to keep me company.
And, who knows, maybe being a fish-out-of-water in a world of magic and mayhem would turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
After all, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
And when life drops you into a fantasy world without a magical system, just shrug and say, "Well, shit."
But I couldn't help but think about the world of Eternal Realms.
In the game, there were 7 continents, each with its unique charm, inhabitants, and weather patterns.
Let me see if I can recall them correctly...
1. Goru: The Beastmen inhabited the continent of Goru, a land of dense forests, misty mountains, and winding rivers.
Goru's weather was unpredictable, with sudden rain showers and eerie fog banks that could swallow you whole.
The Beastmen were depicted in the game as towering, muscular creatures with fur-covered bodies, sharp claws, and teeth.
They had a primal, savage beauty to them, with eyes that glowed like embers in the dark.
2. Aquilan: The mermaids called Aquilan home, a continent almost entirely composed of water.
Aquilan was a tropical paradise, with crystal-clear waters, colorful coral reefs, and sunken ruins waiting to be explored.
The mermaids were shown in the game as alluring, aquatic creatures with shimmering scales, flowing locks of golden hair, and voices that could charm the sea itself.
Their beauty was mesmerizing, but also deadly, as they lured sailors to their doom with their enchanting songs.
3. Feywyn: The Fairies inhabited the continent of Feywyn, a land of lush forests, shimmering waterfalls, and rolling hills.
Feywyn's weather was mild and pleasant, with soft breezes and warm sunshine.
The Fairies were depicted in the game as delicate, ethereal creatures with wings as transparent as glass, hair as bright as the sun, and laughter that could charm the flowers into bloom.
They were mischievous and quick-witted, often playing tricks on travelers who wandered into their realm.
4. Tenaria: The humans lived on the continent of Tenaria, a land of vast deserts, snow-capped mountains, and bustling cities.
Tenaria's weather was as varied as its landscapes, with scorching deserts, freezing tundras, and temperate forests.
Humans were shown in the game as versatile and resilient, with a wide range of cultures, skills, and abilities.
They were the jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none, and often found themselves at the mercy of the other, more powerful species.
5. Elyria: The Vampires ruled the continent of Elyria, a land of dark forests, Gothic spires, and mysterious ruins.
Elyria's weather was as moody as its inhabitants, with dark storms, silver moonlight, and whispered secrets on the wind.
The Vampires were depicted in the game as elegant, mysterious creatures with skin as pale as the moon, eyes that glowed like lanterns in the dark, and powers that commanded the very shadows themselves.
They were charismatic and cunning, often manipulating events from behind the scenes.
6. Lunaria: The Elves inhabited the continent of Lunaria, a land of shimmering moonlit forests, crystal caves, and ancient ruins.
Lunaria's weather was ethereal and dreamy, with soft moonbeams and stardust scattered across the skies.
The Elves were shown in the game as tall, stately creatures with skin as pale as the moon, hair as bright as the stars, and eyes that shone like the very fabric of reality.
They were wise and powerful, with a deep connection to the natural world and the secrets of the universe.
7. Wulfgar: The Werewolves called Wulfgar home, a continent of rugged mountains, dense forests, and snow-covered tundras.
Wulfgar's weather was harsh and unforgiving, with biting winds, icy storms, and the occasional blood moon.
The Werewolves were depicted in the game as fierce, wild creatures with bodies that shifted between human and wolf, eyes that glowed like embers, and powers that commanded the very forces of nature.
They were passionate and intense, often living in the moment and following their hearts.
In the game, the Elves were the ruling power, with the Vampires as their trusted advisors and the humans as their loyal subjects.
The Werewolves held a lesser but still significant position, often serving as the Elves' enforcers and guardians.
The other species, including the Beastmen, mermaids, and Fairies, lived on the fringes of society, sometimes interacting with the ruling powers and sometimes keeping to themselves.
But, as I stood there, wrapped in a towel, I couldn't help but wonder how different the reality would be from the game.
But one irrefutable truth that emerged from the realm of Eternal Realms was the omnipresent and indispensable nature of magic, which wove an intricate tapestry of wonder and awe throughout this fantastical world.
I began reminiscing about the countless hours I spent immersed in this virtual realm, I couldn't help but marvel at the sheer complexity and beauty of its magical system.
In Eternal Realms, magic was the linchpin that held the very fabric of existence together, a symphony of spellcraft that resonated throughout the land.
Most inhabitants of this realm awakened to their magical abilities around the age of 12, a milestone that marked the beginning of their journey into the mysteries of the arcane.
However, a select few prodigious individuals defied this norm, manifesting their magical prowess at remarkably young ages, such as the extraordinary case of a Feywyn continent native who awakened at the tender age of 4 – a true wunderkind, whose magical abilities blossomed like a rare flower in the desert.
As I delved deeper into the realm, I discovered that the magic system in Eternal Realms was further complicated by the concept of classes, which determined an individual's magical affinities, abilities, and overall potential.
It was as if the game had dealt each player a unique hand of cards, which they could then use to weave their own distinct magical narrative.
Upon awakening to their magical abilities, individuals discovered their class, which served as a blueprint for their magical development – a veritable treasure map, guiding them through the twists and turns of their arcane journey.
Some of the prominent classes included:
- _Kaleeki_: A mystical class of shadow wielders, capable of manipulating darkness and illusions to outmaneuver their foes – the ninjas of the magical world, if you will.
- _Aeromancers_: Masters of the skies, able to control the winds, summon storms, and defy gravity – the winged wizards of Eternal Realms.
- _Terrakai_: Guardians of the earth, possessing the ability to communicate with nature, control the land, and wield the fury of the elements – the very embodiment of Mother Nature's wrath.
- _Crystallo_: Enigmatic wielders of crystal magic, capable of healing, protecting, and amplifying the abilities of themselves and their allies – the gentle healers of the magical realm.
- _Pyropex_: Fire wielders, able to control flames, manipulate heat, and unleash infernos upon their enemies – the fiery virtuosos of Eternal Realms.
- _Aquari_: Masters of the oceans, possessing the ability to control water, communicate with sea creatures, and wield the power of the tides – the aquatic adepts of the magical world.
- _Echoflux_: Enigmatic manipulators of time and space, able to bend the fabric of reality, teleport across vast distances, and see into the very fabric of existence – the chrono-magicians of Eternal Realms.
- _Necrozi_: Masters of the dead, capable of communicating with spirits, summoning undead minions, and wielding the dark powers of the afterlife – the necromancers of the magical realm.
I recall playing as Justin Bridge, a character who possessed not one, but two classes – a true polymath, whose magical abilities knew no bounds.
His unique blend of mage and knight classes made him a formidable force on the battlefield, a veritable one-man army, capable of unleashing a maelstrom of magical mayhem upon his enemies.
Still standing, wrapped in a towel, something clicked in my head.
I really knew nothing about this body I was in control of. I always skipped the cutscenes, especially the ones featuring the villains.
All I knew so far about Eden Prairie, my new host, was that he died in the first act of the game when he made a pact with a demon.
Demons – I hadn't mentioned them earlier, but they were a crucial part of the Eternal Realms lore.
However, I had more pressing matters at hand, like unraveling the mysteries of my new existence, what or who brought me here, how to get out of this world and the secrets that lay hidden within this unfamiliar body.
As I arose from my reverie, I meandered towards the wardrobe, that venerable vault of vestments, where fashion and functionality engaged in a spirited pas de deux.
And, just as I was about to embark on a detailed description of its design, I caught myself and thought,
"Damn it, man! Must I narrate every minute detail?" But, I digress.
Upon opening the wardrobe's doors, I was immediately struck by the dazzling array of attire within.
It was as if the wardrobe had been stocked by a coterie of fashionistas who had taken leave of their senses, substituting restraint and moderation for unbridled extravagance.
"Good heavens!" I exclaimed, my eyes widening in wonder.
"Who needs simple, quotidian clothing when one can attire oneself in garments that seem to have been woven from the very fabric of opulence?"
The clothes within the wardrobe were a testament to the ingenuity of the Eternal Realms' tailors, who had managed to craft garments that were at once futuristic and ancient, like something out of a Jules Verne novel.
As I rummaged through the racks, my fingers trailed over fabrics that felt like silk, cashmere, and possibly even the softest of clouds.
I half-expected to find a gown made of pure moonbeams or a suit woven from the finest threads of stardust.
And yet, amidst this sea of sartorial splendor, I managed to find a pair of dark pants and a matching hoodie that seemed almost... pedestrian.
Almost. "Well, well, well," I said, holding up the pants and hoodie, "what do we have here? The epitome of understated elegance? The very acme of subdued sophistication?" I chuckled to myself, donning the outfit with a flourish.
"I daresay, I look almost... normal.
As I put on the clothes, I tossed the two towels I used earlier into the dirty clothes bin close to the bathroom.
Then, I walked towards the mirror in the room to examine myself.
Not to sound arrogant, but... well, actually, let's just say I'm not going to win any awards for humility.
"Damn, I'm handsome!" I exclaimed, shaking my head with a "no, no, no" sign.
"I'm not explaining how I look, nah, no way. Okay, just a little bit..."
I glanced at my reflection, and my eyes sparkled with amusement.
Let's just say I clean up pretty well – the dark pants and hoodie hugged my physique in all the right places, and my hair looked like it had been styled by a team of expert coiffeurs (or maybe I just got lucky).
I grinned at my reflection, feeling like a million bucks. Or, at the very least, like a moderately wealthy aristocrat from the Eternal Realms.
Just as I was about to step out, that same damn headache from earlier came crashing back, its fury unleashed like a tempestuous beast awakened from a deep slumber.
It was as if a thousand tiny jackhammers had begun to excavate a mine shaft in my brain, each one pounding out a rhythm of relentless agony.
The pain was a palpable thing, a living, breathing entity that wrapped itself around my skull like a vice, squeezing tight with merciless intent.
I stumbled, my vision blurring like a watercolor painting in the rain, and fell to one knee.
Just as I thought I was about to pass out, a cheerful "ding!" pierced the air, like a ray of sunshine bursting through the clouds.
A holographic display flickered to life before me, its pixels coalescing into a sleek, futuristic interface that seemed to hover in mid-air.
The words "System Online"
emblazoned themselves across the screen in bold, neon letters, accompanied by a jaunty tune that sounded suspiciously like a cross between a video game theme song and a Vegas slot machine.
A forced smile spread across my face, a grimace of relief and anticipation.
I uttered a single word, a syllable that seemed to encapsulate my entire existence in this strange, new world:
"Finally."
