We reached the girls, and the first thing I heard was Sakura's voice, a little impatient as usual:
—Why did you take so long? Ah… never mind, it's still early.
I answered with a faint smile, trying to downplay it:
—Sorry, hehe, we got a little distracted.
She just rolled her eyes with a small smile of her own, as if she knew it was typical of us.
The five of us began walking calmly through the streets of Tokyo. The girls were ahead, chatting animatedly about how they wanted their dresses to be for the ceremony on Saturday. I walked behind, keeping pace with them, savoring every second in this lively city.
Everything felt insane… in the best possible way. I looked around, fascinated: shops crammed with lights, billboards of famous anime, video games, and international brands. Cars moved in perfect order but at an impressive speed. The city's bustle didn't overwhelm me—instead, it made me feel alive. "This… this is Tokyo," I thought with a smile. Everything I had ever seen in photos or on TV was right in front of me.
Then, Ren stopped and said firmly:
—We're here.
I looked up, and the first thing I saw was a massive building with windows polished like mirrors, the automatic doors gleaming from constant care and cleaning. It was sleek and modern—the kind of place you see in romance movies or school comedies. I stood there, staring, trying to process it.
—It's changed a little! —Sakura exclaimed, glancing around with a touch of nostalgia—. Anyway, where's the dress place?
—Third floor —Ren answered without breaking stride—. Let's go.
We headed toward the elevators, waiting a moment for one to arrive. Once it did, we stepped inside together. Ren pressed the button for the third floor, and the doors slid closed softly. As we ascended, the air filled with the typical chatter between friends.
—So… have you decided what design you want yet? —Sakura asked curiously.
Ren stayed silent, as if she preferred to keep it a secret for now. It was Masha who broke the quiet.
—Well… I just want something simple, with few details. Something discreet —she replied in her soft, calm tone.
Sakura, with a look somewhere between resigned and amused, said:
—Ah, Masha, it's always the same with you. But, well, those kinds of dresses do suit you. You have that calm vibe that goes perfectly with them.
Kaori, who seemed lost in thought, added:
—Mmm… I… guess I'll choose one that doesn't draw too much attention.
—What do you mean one that doesn't draw attention? —Sakura jumped in, laughing—. Last year you wore one that stole everyone's eyes!
The moment Kaori heard that, her face turned completely red. She lowered her gaze and, clearly flustered, mumbled:
—B-but that was a special moment… a-ach… better I don't say anything.
She quickly turned her head away, puffing her cheeks a little as if she were annoyed, though it was obvious she was just embarrassed. I couldn't help but watch her with some curiosity. That last comment from Sakura stirred something in me. What kind of dress had Kaori worn that caused such a stir? I admit, I was curious—but I chose to stay quiet for now.
Then Ren spoke confidently:
—Alright, we're here.
The elevator doors opened with a soft sound. We all stepped out, following Ren, who led the way as if she had everything planned.
Walking down the third-floor hallway, we passed several elegant clothing stores. Each had immaculate displays with mannequins dressed in suits, evening gowns, shimmering fabrics, lace, subtle and bold colors. The quality was obvious at a glance… and so were the prices. I didn't say anything, but in my head I thought, "Hehe… with that kind of quality, they must cost a fortune."
Even so, it was clear Ren knew exactly where she was going and that this place was special. The girls were excited. And me… I was just enjoying the moment. I was surrounded by people who mattered to me, in an incredible city, just four days away from the most important event of my life so far.
And the day had barely begun.
As we strolled down the hallway, I couldn't help but notice the people coming out of the shops. Most carried elegant shopping bags in various colors and brands, clearly from high-end places. The bags had luxurious finishes; some logos I recognized, others were completely new to me. The number of exclusive stores was impressive: clothing boutiques, fine perfume shops, accessories, jewelry… everything radiated luxury.
I was absorbed in the scenery until I heard Ren's firm voice:
—Alright, we're here.
I turned my head and saw the place she meant. At first glance, it wasn't as large as the other stores in the mall, but it clearly stood out. The window frames had polished detailing, and warm lighting highlighted the dresses and suits on display, creating a calm, welcoming atmosphere. Though smaller, it radiated both elegance and comfort, making it stand out even among the bigger shops.
Ren approached the door, opened it, and called out:
—Hello!
We stepped in one by one. Inside was even more impressive. Strategically placed lights illuminated the suits and dresses, making them shine with subtle elegance. I wandered toward the men's section out of curiosity—everything was neatly arranged, but one thing caught my eye: none had price tags. That puzzled me a little; it felt more like an exhibition gallery than a regular store.
From behind a curtain at the back, I heard footsteps approaching. I turned with curiosity, and out stepped a tall woman with an elegant presence. Her long, well-groomed hair fell gently over her shoulders, and she wore a crisp white dress shirt and black trousers. Her presence commanded respect, yet radiated warmth.
She smiled and approached Ren with familiarity.
—Hello, Ren. How have you been?
Ren replied cheerfully:
—Hi, Mister. All good, hehe.
"Mister?" I thought, puzzled. Was that her name? Or just a nickname? Before I could think much of it, the woman greeted the other girls with natural warmth.
—Sakura, Kaori, Masha… how have you been, girls?
Sakura was first to respond:
—Good, Mister. Thanks for having us again.
Kaori smiled and added:
—Good as always, hehe.
Masha also gave a smile:
—Hello, Mister. Good, thank you.
Mister nodded in satisfaction and asked kindly:
—That's great to hear. Now tell me, how can I help you this time?… Uh… and who's he?
She looked straight at me with a curious gaze. Before I could answer, Ren quickly said:
—He's just like us.
She said it with certainty, but it left me confused. "Just like us"? Did she mean the supernatural powers? Mister studied me for a moment longer, then approached and said with a formal smile:
—A pleasure to meet you, young man. My name is Mister.
I inclined my head slightly and gave a respectful bow, as I'd grown used to doing since my time at the temple.
—Nice to meet you, my name is Leo —I replied calmly.
When I looked up, I noticed she was observing me more closely than I expected. Her eyes scanned me from head to toe, and then she murmured with a hint of intrigue:
—Leo… that name sounds familiar…
That took me by surprise. "What does she mean it sounds familiar?" I thought, even more confused. But before I could say anything, she let out a light laugh and said:
—Hehehe, forget I said that.
She quickly turned back to the girls.
—Alright, girls, how can I help you?
Ren took the lead:
—We're looking for dresses for this Saturday's event.
Mister nodded with an enthusiastic smile:
—Perfect. Please follow me.
She led us through the aisle and past the same curtain she'd emerged from earlier. When we stepped inside, my jaw dropped—it was like another world. A long corridor lined with dresses hung with extreme care, in every style and color. Mannequins displayed evening gowns, some classic, others modern, all with incredible detail. Warm lights hung from the ceiling, softly illuminating every corner, highlighting the fabrics' shine, the pearls, the lace, and other fine touches.
Even men's suits were there, perfectly pressed and elegantly arranged. Though the place looked small from outside, inside it felt spacious and luxurious.
Mister stopped in the middle of the corridor and smiled.
—Alright, girls, take your time and find the one you like most. You can try on anything you want here.
The girls immediately scattered, heading for different racks, touching fabrics, admiring designs. Some pointed out dresses to each other, others browsed quietly, searching for the perfect one.
As for me, I stayed off to the side, enjoying the moment—not just because the place was impressive, but because I could see how happy they all were. And even if I didn't say it, I felt like I was part of that too. Only… I still couldn't stop thinking about how Mister knew my name. Something inside me told me she knew more than she let on.
While the girls stayed focused on their search, I drifted toward the men's formalwear section. I've never been especially interested in formal suits, but something about these drew me in. Each one, though cut in classic styles, had subtle details: fine stitching, textured fabrics, embroidery so faint it was barely visible… all of it giving them a unique and distinguished air. For the first time, I found myself curious about wearing one of these suits—though I wasn't entirely sure.
I was so absorbed in my thoughts that I didn't notice Kaori approach until I heard her soft voice:
—Leo, could you come here for a moment?
I turned instantly, pulled from my daze, and replied:
—Yeah, of course, I'm coming.
I walked over and saw her holding two dresses. Her eyes had a curious sparkle, as if she were nervous about something.
—I want you to help me with something —she said shyly—. Which do you think would look better on me?
She lifted both dresses, and I had to admit—they were both gorgeous.
The first was a deep wine red, with delicate detailing at the shoulders giving it a touch of classic elegance. Around the waist was a black ribbon edged in fine gold. It fell in a soft, elegant, sophisticated drape.
The second was completely different but equally charming: a bright pink dress with one shoulder bare while the other had a long sleeve. It was adorned with a ribbon decorated with flowers outlined in black, as if drawn by hand. Gold accents caught the light, giving it a modern, artistic style.
I stared at them, trying to picture Kaori in each one. Before I could answer, she added:
—I already have one in mind… but I want to know your opinion. Which of these two would you most like… to see me wear?
She said it with a faint blush on her cheeks and her eyes downcast, avoiding direct eye contact. Her voice trembled slightly at the end. As simple as the question seemed, I felt it meant a lot to her… and to me as well.
I looked at both dresses again, closed my eyes for a moment, and pictured Kaori in each. Finally, I opened my eyes and, with a smile, pointed to the red one.
—The red one… it would look stunning on you —I answered confidently.
She looked up, surprised at how quickly I'd answered, and asked curiously:
—Why the red one?
I replied with firm sincerity, meeting her eyes:
—The red naturally brings out your chestnut hair, makes your green eyes shine even more, and your pale skin will look like porcelain under the event lights. That dress will make everyone turn to look at you… but not because of the dress itself—because it will bring out all your beauty.
Kaori blushed deeply, placing a hand over her chest and glancing away. She coughed softly, trying to mask her reaction, then raised her voice firmly:
—Mister, I'll take this one.
The way she said it carried confidence, but her cheeks were still warm. It was a charming contrast between her usual strong demeanor and the shy sweetness she only showed in rare moments… moments like this.
Mister approached with a kind smile, glancing at the dress Kaori held delicately in her hands.
—You chose the red one, Kaori? I think that's a perfect choice —she said confidently, studying her—. Though I noticed you had a hard time choosing between those two.
Kaori, still with a faint blush, nodded with a sincere smile.
—Yes, it wasn't easy. All your dresses are unique and beautiful, hehe —she said warmly, looking at Mister with appreciation.
—Hehe, thank you, Kaori —Mister replied with a slight bow—. Let me get it prepared and packed for you. You'll have it ready for the event.
—Yes, Mister. Thank you so much —Kaori answered respectfully, with a touch of excitement.
Mister nodded and turned, but barely took two steps before the other girls called her excitedly.
—Mister, we've picked ours too! —Ren said, lifting her dress to show it.
Mister turned with interest, stepping closer to see each choice.
Ren's was first. Her dress was a deep, vibrant blue with fine strap details that shimmered gently under the light. On the chest was a delicate black ribbon shaped like a flower, giving it a touch of elegance but keeping it understated. The simple design flattered her athletic figure and pale skin, giving her a naturally sophisticated air.
—Very well chosen, Ren. It brings out your strong character but also your natural elegance —Mister said with a proud smile.
Next was Sakura. Her dress was black, entirely long-sleeved, with embroidered black flowers trailing down the arms like silk tattoos. A ribbon cinched at the waist, defining her figure. Though dark and gothic in feel, the style suited her surprisingly well, as if the dress had been made for her.
—This dress… —Mister said with admiration— has strength, character, and elegance. Sakura, it fits you like a glove.
—Heh, that's what I thought —Sakura replied with a faint, proud smile as she adjusted her hair.
Finally, Masha stepped forward timidly. Her dress was a deep green with thin straps. At first glance it seemed simple, but its unique details stood out: delicate embroidery traced across the fabric like rose roots with thorns, winding around her waist. A black bow, perfectly placed at the center of the chest, completed the design, striking a balance between sweetness and elegance.
—This dress says a lot about you, Masha —Mister said gently—. Discreet but full of life, like a garden blooming in silence.
Masha lowered her gaze, shy but happy, and replied softly:
—Thank you, Mister… I'm glad you like it.
I looked at the four girls carefully. Each had chosen a dress that not only suited them but reflected their personality perfectly. That's when I realized something simple but important: the upcoming ceremony wasn't just another event—it truly meant something to them… and to me too, in some way.
While the girls waited for Mister to pack their dresses, I wandered again, exploring the men's section. I found myself in a modest yet elegant selection of dress shirts in light blue, gray, beige… but my eyes landed on the simplest ones: black and white. I've always preferred understated styles, no frills. They didn't need flashy prints or accessories—their elegance lay in pure design.
Walking with my hands in my pockets, I spotted something that caught my attention: a black dress shirt. The fabric was soft, the cut clean, with no breast pocket—which made it stand out even more in its minimalism. Hanging beside it was a pair of matching black trousers, equally elegant. It didn't scream luxury, yet the set carried a firm presence. I stood there for a few seconds, picturing how it would look on me. I liked it—and that was rare for me. I never cared much about clothes, but this suit had something special.
Lost in thought, I suddenly felt an arm drape around my shoulders. I glanced sideways in surprise—it was Ren, smiling mischievously.
—Mmm, that suit… simple, but elegant. It would look perfect on you —she said, leaning slightly toward me—. It has that air of power, like for strong people… like you.
I turned my gaze away immediately, feeling heat rise in my cheeks. My voice cracked a little as I replied:
—P-p-powerful people? But I'm not strong, Ren… and besides… —I lowered my head— I don't even have the money to buy it.
She let out a warm, homely laugh.
—What do you mean you're not strong? Leo, you faced the Ziz, the Herald, and that being that appeared in the city… things most people couldn't even imagine. And you did it for all of us. Of course you're strong. —She looked straight into my eyes—. But tell me… do you like that suit?
I nodded slowly, still not lifting my head much.
—Yeah… I really do. I like it a lot, but…
Before I could finish, Ren stepped forward, raised her hand, and called to Mister.
—Mister! We'll take that suit too, please —she said, pointing right at the one I'd been eyeing.
Mister emerged from between the aisles with a curious look, her eyes falling on the set.
—That one? Oh… the suit of darkness —she murmured with a special tone—. Simple but commanding. It's one of my favorites, Leo. I have several at home, and I'm glad to know someone with your aura will wear it. Is it for you?
Still stunned by what just happened, I replied with a trembling voice:
—Y-yes, Mister…
She nodded warmly.
—Then it's yours. Take good care of it, alright? That suit holds symbolic value for me. It reminds me of someone very important in my life… and now, I believe you can carry their spirit forward.
Saying that, she took the set with great care and went to prepare it.
I stood in silence, staring into space for a few seconds. Then I turned to Ren, my heart still pounding.
—Ren… why did you do this? Why did you buy it? —I asked in a trembling voice,Fighting to hold back an emotion that rose in my chest, like a knot that refused to come undone.
She looked at me with tenderness. There was no mockery in her eyes, no lightheartedness. Only sincerity.
—Because you're already part of us, Leo. You're family. And to me… —she paused for a moment, lowering her voice— you're the brother I never had. You're always there for us. When you were wounded after fighting those creatures, we thought we might lose you… but here you are. Standing. Strong. And I know worse enemies will come… but I want you to never forget that you're not alone. We will always be with you.
In that moment, she wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly. And I couldn't hold it in anymore.
Tears began to fall silently, beyond my control. I hugged her back, burying my face in her shoulder, saying nothing for a few seconds. I just felt that warmth, that sense of safety that only family can give—even if it's not by blood.
—Thank you, Ren… —I finally said, my voice low and trembling—. To you… to Kaori, Sakura, Masha… to Tom, to the old man… thank you for being with me.
She said nothing else. She didn't need to. She simply tightened her embrace a little more and stayed by my side, sharing that small yet eternal moment with me.
