As Jane resumed her work, she couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt and anxiety. She knew she had to keep up the face, but the weight of her actions was crushing her.
Meanwhile, Sonia was at the hospital, focused on finding a solution to Michael's problem. She couldn't focus on her work and she was glad she had little work to do today unlike other days. She made her way to the doctor's office, hoping to find some information on when exactly he would return or how best to reach him.
Dr. Pius's assistant greeted her warmly. "Hi nurse Sonia, what brings you here today?"
"I'm looking for Dr. Pius," Sonia replied. "I need his expertise on a personal matter."
The assistant nodded sympathetically. "Unfortunately, Dr. Pius is out of town. Can I help or schedule a meeting for when he returns?"
Sonia hesitated, unsure what to do next. She knew she had to find a way to help Michael, but without Dr. Pius's guidance...
"Can she wait till he returns", she thought
Just then, her phone buzzed and a call came in. It was Michael.
"Hey, how's your day going?" Michael asked, his voice gentle.
"It's going well," Sonia replied, trying to sound cheerful. "I was hoping to meet Dr. Pius, but he's out of town and won't be around for some days."
"Don't worry, take care of yourself," Michael said. "We'll figure things out together."
Sonia smiled, feeling a warmth in her heart. Maybe, just maybe, their marriage would work out after all.
"Alright, no problems", Sonia said smiling.
As she ended the call, the assistant spoke up. "Nurse Sonia, I think it's best to call him or better still schedule a meeting with him so that once he enters town, he will meet up with you. He should be back before the week runs down".
Sonia's eyes lit up. "Oh, okay, I think I'll schedule the meeting with him, but I just want to let you know that it's urgent and requires immediate attention."
The assistant nodded and began typing on her computer. "Let me schedule one for you"
Back at the house, Jane was still struggling to keep her composure. The housekeeper's lifeless body lay at the foot of the stairs, and she knew she had to act cool without arousing suspicion but she knew it was only a matter of time before someone discovered it.
Meanwhile, the other housekeepers went about their duties, unaware of the tragedy that had occurred. One of them, a gentle woman named Mary, was busy preparing lunch in the kitchen.
As she worked, she heard a faint noise coming from the direction of the stairs. She walked out of the kitchen and turned to see one of her colleagues, Rachel, standing frozen in shock.
"Rachel, what's wrong?" Mary asked, with concern displaying on her face.
Rachel pointed silently to the foot of the stairs. Mary's eyes followed her gaze, and her heart sank as she saw the lifeless body.
"Oh no," Mary whispered, rushing over to check for a pulse but got no trace of it. "We need to call the police."
The news spread quickly through the house, and soon, everyone was in a state of panic. Michael, who had just entered the house, heard the noise and came rushing in to see what was happening.
"What happened?" he demanded, his face pale with worry as it was something unusual for the house to be in chaos.
One of the housekeepers explained the situation, and Michael's expression turned dark. "We need to call the authorities immediately."
As they waited for the police to arrive, Sonia received a call from Michael, she wasn't expecting any call from him anytime soon as they just finished talking few minutes ago.
Michael's voice was sombre. "One of the housekeepers fell down the stairs. It's... it's not good."
Sonia's pulse increased. "I'll come home right away."
She packed up her bag, took an emergency leave permission and left the hospital at once.
The police arrived, and soon, the house was filled with the sound of sirens and murmured conversations. The housekeepers were visibly shaken, and Michael's face was already hardened.
As Sonia arrived home, she was met with a scene of chaos. She rushed to Michael's side, with solicitude written all over her face. "What happened?"
Michael's eyes were dim with anxiety. "We're not sure yet. The police are still investigating."
Sonia's gaze fell upon the spot where the body lay, now surrounded by police officers. She felt a shiver run down her spine.
This was not how she had envisioned her life with Michael. Not at all. It's still early for all these dramas.
As Sonia stood beside Michael, she noticed Jane, one of the housekeepers, watching the scene with an unsettling calmness. Her eyes seemed almost... detached.
Sonia's gaze lingered on Jane for a moment, but she quickly turned her attention back to Michael. "Do you think it was an accident?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Michael's expression was grim. "I don't know. The police will investigate and figure out what happened."
As the police began questioning the housekeepers, Jane's demeanor remained eerily composed. She answered their questions with precision, but her eyes betrayed a flicker of unease.
One of the officers approached Michael and Sonia. "We'll need to review the security footage to determine the cause of the fall."
Michael nodded. "Of course. Let's get to the bottom of this."
As the officer walked away, Sonia noticed something peculiar. The security camera near the stairs seemed to be... malfunctioning.
"Michael," she whispered, "look at that camera. It looks like it's not working."
Michael's eyes narrowed. "That's strange. We should have footage of what happened."
The officer overheard their conversation and frowned. "We'll investigate the camera and see if we can recover any footage."
Sonia's instincts were screaming that something was off. She glanced at Jane once more, who was now watching her with an intensity that made her skin crawl.
