Chapter 11 - Academy Entrance Exam

Hastora strode forward, his gaze fixed ahead—ignoring the girls trailing behind him.

Talking to them would only waste time. Hastora was certain of it, he estimated that he would arrive at the Velmora Grand Academy five minutes late.

He quickened his pace, ignoring all distractions.

Velmora Grand Academy.

Hastora arrived at the Velmora Grand Academy five minutes late, as he had predicted.

The grand building stood majestically before him. There were several rose gardens in the courtyard with fountains dancing in the middle of the flower gardens.

The first-year students gathered in the field, talking to their friends there.

There were also some other first-year students who had just arrived at the academy. Hastora thought that being five minutes late wasn't a big deal—even the guards standing there didn't seem to mind.

Hastora stepped inside, passing through the large and tall academy gate.

The atmosphere there became even noisier after he entered, louder than when he was standing outside.

"Quite crowded," he muttered.

Soon, Valeska, Gisella, and their two other friends arrived at the academy. All eyes were on them.

The four girls stepped inside, their aura exuded an elegant air. The other students stood frozen, mesmerized by their beauty.

"Hey, that's Valeska, right?"

"Yes... She's the daughter of Emperor Kyle."

"I hope I'm in the same class as her."

"They're all so beautiful."

Whispers filled with awe could be heard from the other students. It was a natural reaction for ordinary beings.

The daughter of the emperor of this empire entered the same academy as them. What's more, she was surrounded by her beautiful friends.

Ordinary beings would be immediately mesmerized and awestruck just by seeing them pass. Their aura was truly different from the beautiful girls Hastora had ever seen before.

However, he didn't react the same way as the other students there.

He wouldn't look at things like that—unless it benefited him. Revenge and power were everything, nothing else.

"To the first-year students. Please gather in the hall."

A loud voice called out for them to gather in the hall. The voice echoed through the academy, making anyone hear it.

All the students rushed towards the hall, walking quickly with their friends.

So did Valeska, she walked quickly towards the hall with her friends.

"It seems I should go too," Hastora muttered as he calmly walked towards the hall.

Upon arriving there, Hastora immediately went to the bench in the back corner. He chose a slightly dark place to avoid the overly bright light.

"Alright. Everyone! Pay attention to the front!" a woman shouted.

The woman had yellow hair with red eyes. She stood on the stage holding a megaphone.

"Let me introduce myself, my name is Luna von Elvarien. I am the headmistress of this academy."

All eyes widened, surprised to hear the name "Elvarien."

Elvarien was a high-class noble family—and also one of the most famous in this empire.

Elvarien was known for its strong, intelligent, and great people. Even the empire's general came from Elvarien.

It was a natural reaction, considering the Elvarien family was a famous and influential family in the empire's military field.

"You will take three tests for the academy entrance exam. First, mana measurement. Second, magic ability test. And third... You will take the third test inside the gate." said the headmistress, Luna—giving an explanation for the test exam.

Luna added, "for the third exam, all you have to do is kill as many monsters as possible inside the gate. Every time you kill a monster, you will get points. Your points will be calculated based on the type of monster you kill—I will tell you about the types of monsters inside the gate later."

The other students swallowed hard upon hearing that. Gate? For them, it was a very dangerous thing.

We don't know what will happen inside the gate. The gate could malfunction and turn into a disaster-class gate.

It would be very dangerous if an academy student was inside it. That's because the power level of a student at the academy wouldn't be able to defeat the monsters inside the disaster-class gate.

However, all their thoughts were wrong. The gate would only malfunction if it was a gate that appeared randomly due to the clash of Arcanum Azure energy from another world.

Most likely, the gate used for the test exam was a gate made with spatial magic.

It was impossible for the headmistress to use a randomly appearing gate as a test exam venue. It would only endanger the lives of the students.

Valeska raised her hand, "Excuse me."

The headmistress, Luna—turned around. "What is it?"

Valeska stood up, "I would like to ask. Will the points from the overall results of the test exam determine the class of each student?"

Luna smiled slightly, "hoho... Good question. I've been waiting for that question. That's right, the points from the overall test exam results will determine your class later."

"How many points are needed for someone to get into class A?" Valeska asked.

"Magic energy measurement will not be graded. And the magic ability test will not be given points, but it will be graded. You will only get points if you kill monsters inside the gate."

Luna added, "the more monsters you kill, the more points you will get. And you must get at least 40 points to get into class A."

"Alright... I understand."

Valeska sat back down in her chair, feeling slightly satisfied after hearing the answer from the headmistress.

"Is there anything else you would like to ask?" the headmistress asked.

Silence.

Feeling that no one was asking anymore, the headmistress, Luna—walked down from the stage.

She walked to the room there, then took a magic energy measuring device.

The device was large, there was a large crystal in the middle. The outside was protected by thick glass that was not easily broken, it was glass with a very expensive price.

"This is a magic energy measuring device. You just have to put both your palms on the crystal that is right in the middle of this device," Luna said, telling how to use the device.

Luna added, "you will go forward in order according to the number of the seat you are sitting on."

Luna took a piece of paper from her pocket. "Number one, Kaelen Drosk. Please come forward."

A man with dark blue hair stepped up onto the stage. He placed both palms on the crystal.

A light appeared, then the crystal showed a gray color. That indicated that his magic energy was very small.

The color of the crystal showed the size of someone's magic energy. Gray was the lowest.

Then followed by pale blue, dark green, dark red, to the highest which was dark purple.

The man stepped down from the stage. He seemed very happy with the results. If only he knew how low his magical energy was.

"Alright, next—number two. Nimrah Velven," Luna said.

An orange-haired girl got up from her chair, then stepped onto the stage.

She placed both palms on the crystal on the device. The crystal glowed—then showed a pale blue color.

"Not bad," the headmistress said.

The girl stepped down from the stage and walked back to her chair. Her face showed an expression of happiness and satisfaction.

Then the headmistress, Luna, immediately called out the next name. It continued until finally Gisella's name was mentioned.

Hastora, who had been indifferent all this time, now glanced slightly at Gisella who was walking up to the stage.

He was a little curious about how strong Gisella was. The first impression Hastora got when he saw her was "careless girl."

However, he quickly changed it to "careless girl, but smart" after seeing the color shown by the crystal touched by Gisella.

The crystal showed a dark red color. A color rarely obtained by academy students.

"Great," Luna praised. "I think you've been practicing hard at home."

"Hehehe... Not really," Gisella replied.

Gisella stepped down from the stage, then walked back to her chair.

"Next. And last, number 120. Come forward," Luna said, not mentioning Hastora's name.

All the students were excited because Hastora's name was not mentioned, Luna only mentioned his number—not his name.

"Why wasn't his name mentioned?"

"I think it's because he's a weakling."

"That's right. Maybe the headmistress is reluctant to mention his name because he's too weak."

The students whispered excitedly, a negative impression began to be shown to Hastora.

Hastora heard that, but he didn't care. He stepped onto the stage casually.

"What's your name?" Luna asked.

"Hastora Vallois," he replied.

"Didn't you register and go straight to the entrance exam?" Luna asked.

"Yes. I forgot to register."

Again, a bad impression was shown to Hastora. Whispers could be heard everywhere.

"What? He didn't register?"

"What a shameless jerk. Does he think Velmora Grand Academy is a game?"

"Weird guy."

"You're right... Even though he's handsome, he's weird and shameless."

Whispers from other students could be heard by Luna. 'Jerk' she thought.

"Alright alright... I'll forgive you this time. But I won't forgive you if you do something reckless like this again," Luna said. Trying to get rid of the bad impression of other students.

Luna added, "Remember. Velmora Grand Academy is not a casual place. You can't act recklessly."

Hastora sighed, "Alright. I apologize."

"I forgive you. Quickly put both your palms on the crystal," Luna replied.

Hastora placed both palms on the crystal. The crystal glowed, then showed a dark purple color.

Luna dropped the megaphone she was holding, shocked to see the results. She stood frozen.

All eyes widened at Luna's reaction. Realizing her attitude just now, Luna refocused.

"Amazing," she praised. "Where did you train?"

"Nothing special, it's just a matter of strength," Hastora replied. He tried to answer as best as he could without mentioning his secret.

He didn't want to tell about the monster attack in his village, and his daily life killing monsters in the forest for the past 15 years.

He tried his best not to stand out.

"What do you mean?" Luna asked curiously.

"Nothing," Hastora replied. Walking down from the stage, then walking back to his chair.

The atmosphere in the hall became silent. No sound from the other students could be heard at all.

Even the whispers that were often heard before didn't appear now. 'Feel it' Hastora thought, feeling satisfied with their reaction.

One of Valeska's friends, the green-haired girl clenched her fist—feeling angry with the results shown by Hastora. 'What the hell is he?' she thought.

"Ekhmmm... Everyone!. It's time for the next test, please go to the field!" Luna shouted.

Hearing that, Hastora became the first person to go to the field. Then followed by Gisella.

"Come on Geriya," Valeska invited the green-haired girl, Geriya to hurry to the field.

"Alright."

All the students left the hall and walked towards the field.

Upon arriving at the field, Hastora immediately gathered in the middle of the field with the other students.

"It's time for the second exam, which is the magic ability test," Luna said, her voice could be heard because she was using a megaphone.

The headmistress, Luna, snapped her fingers. Soon, several large pillars with a height of about three meters appeared in front of her.

"Your task is to shoot magic at this pillar."
