Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

Lu Mingjun was delighted. As she walked, she communicated with the system through her consciousness.

Lu Mingjun: System, are you awake?

System: The host has worked very hard these past few days, which provided me with the energy to wake up. But my current energy is still insufficient. The host needs to continue working hard!

Lu Mingjun: I'll keep working hard so you can recover soon!

System: Thank you, host. Although I can't assist you right now, once I'm fully restored, I will provide you with comprehensive support!

Hearing this, Lu Mingjun, in a great mood, had the best night's sleep she could remember.

Since the Jiangfa Bank case was about to enter pre-trial mediation, Lu Mingjun had been focusing her full attention on it over the past few days.

One day, when Jiang Xinxin had a free half-hour, she asked Wang Lulu to call Lu Mingjun in.

Knowing it was about the Jiangfa Bank case, Lu Mingjun brought the case file with her.

When Wang Lulu saw her approaching, she picked up the phone and pressed "9." The call connected quickly.

"Director Jiang, Lawyer Lu is here," she said respectfully.

After a pause, she added, "Understood."

She hung up and walked out from behind her desk, pushing open the double doors of Jiang Xinxin's office.

"Lawyer Lu, please come in. Director Jiang is waiting for you."

"Thank you, Assistant Wang," Lu Mingjun replied.

She entered the office. The air was infused with a faint tea fragrance, creating a calm, peaceful atmosphere.

Jiang Xinxin sat behind her desk, a cup of hot tea in her hand, her expression focused as she looked at Lu Mingjun.

"You're here," she said evenly. She pointed to the chair across from her. "Sit. I want to hear your analysis of the Jiangfa Bank case and how you plan to handle it."

Lu Mingjun sat down, opened her folder, and presented the details of the case.

After her explanation, she pulled out a few pages and handed them over.

"This is the defense statement I've prepared. Please take a look and let me know if it's appropriate."

Jiang Xinxin took the papers and read them.

After a long silence, she looked up at Lu Mingjun, her eyes filled with satisfaction.

"Not bad. Your thinking is clear and well-structured."

But Lu Mingjun remained composed, her expression steady.

Sure enough, Jiang Xinxin continued, her tone shifting slightly:

"But this case is unique. You've just graduated, so you may not fully understand how things work in society. Even if your logic is flawless and your legal arguments solid, the court might not side with you."

She looked at Lu Mingjun, clearly waiting to see if she would push back.

Lu Mingjun just smiled, shook her head, and replied,

"You're right. That's why I'm submitting this defense statement—to present my client's stance to the court and the opposing party."

Just then, Wang Lulu entered and placed a cup of tea in front of Lu Mingjun before quietly exiting.

Lu Mingjun thanked her, then added,

"By doing this, our client will have more leverage during mediation."

Jiang Xinxin couldn't help but laugh.

"Mingjun, you always surprise me! I'll personally accompany you to the trial. Let's see if you can impress me again."

Encouraged by her support, Lu Mingjun smiled.

"Thank you, Director Jiang. I'll give it my all and won't let you down."

They then had an in-depth discussion about the case. Jiang Xinxin shared insights and strategies from her years of experience handling similar matters, while Lu Mingjun listened attentively, occasionally offering her own perspectives and asking thoughtful questions.

"During mediation, we need to control the rhythm," Jiang Xinxin emphasized.

"We have to stick to our principles while guiding our client to understand the other party's bottom line."

She looked at Lu Mingjun seriously.

"Mingjun, let me share a principle I hope you'll embrace."

Lu Mingjun nodded. "Please go ahead, Director Jiang."

Jiang Xinxin continued,

"As lawyers, it's right for us to fight for our clients' legal rights. But we must also consider social harmony.

The law is rooted in human emotion. Lawyers are an essential force in resolving social conflicts."

"I hope that in your future practice, you'll guide your clients not only to win lawsuits, but to win their lives—by learning how to let go."

Lu Mingjun was struck by her words. It felt like a flash of lightning had illuminated her path.

Until now, she had focused only on legal clauses and logic, overlooking the human and social side of the law.

She took a deep breath and said firmly,

"Director Jiang, I understand. The law isn't just a cold, rigid system—it's the foundation of a harmonious society.

As a lawyer, I must fight for my clients' rights while helping them face life and resolve conflicts with empathy and understanding, within the bounds of the law."

Jiang Xinxin nodded in satisfaction.

She hadn't expected Lu Mingjun to embrace her view so readily. After all, many lawyers only focused on maximizing client benefit.

But now it was clear—Lu Mingjun was exceptional.

Her gaze toward Lu Mingjun softened.

"I'm really glad you understand," she said warmly. "Now, let's go over the mediation strategy."

Together, they meticulously discussed the details—from predicting the opposing party's moves to mapping out their own responses and preparing for every possible outcome.

Half an hour passed quickly.

After returning to her desk, Lu Mingjun spent time reflecting on the techniques Jiang Xinxin had shared.

Time flew by, and before she knew it, the workday was over.

After clocking out, she chose to walk home.

As she passed through the crowd, Lu Mingjun suddenly realized—

In her future career, she shouldn't just pursue legal victories. She should also strive to bring peace and resolution to the people she helped.

Allow your client to let go.

She repeated those words in her mind again and again, deeply moved by Jiang Xinxin's wisdom.

Just then, the system's soft voice spoke in her mind:

"Host, it seems you've gained something important today."

Lu Mingjun smiled and replied,

"Yes, System. I think… I really can become a great lawyer."
