As soon as I stepped inside my room, I shut the door and leaned against it, releasing a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. The night had been long—longer than I expected—and my mind felt like a tangled mess of thoughts.
"Ugh, Margaret, not now," I muttered as she tried to linger, curiosity written all over her face. She had been dying to ask me about my sudden transformation, but I had no energy for questions.
She huffed but eventually left, and the moment the door clicked shut behind her, I sank onto my bed. My body felt heavy, but my mind refused to rest.
I sat up again, running my fingers through my hair before staring at my reflection in the small mirror across the room. My makeup was still intact, my dress still flawless, and my heels—well, I had kicked them off the moment I got in. I looked different, like someone I didn't even recognize.
And it was all because of him.
