Chapter 24 - Final Showdown

Samar was still running, dodging Badrul's increasingly frenzied pursuit.

"Hurry, Badang! I don't have the strength to keep running anymore."

Badrul hurled a tree at Samar, sending him flying and leaving him with severe injuries to his abdomen and head.

Though blood soaked his head and abdomen, Samar was still able to run, putting distance between himself and Badrul while waiting for Badang to finish preparing something.

"Why aren't you down yet? With wounds like that, someone like you should already be lying on the ground in defeat,"

Badrul growled as he hurled more trees at Samar. Yet, despite his injuries, Samar managed to dodge every one of them.

Elsewhere, Badang was still struggling to complete what Samar had asked for.

"Hang in there, Samar! Just a little more—I'm almost done!"

Minutes passed. Samar could run no longer—he had reached a dead end.

"HAHAHAHAHA!! FINALLY, YOU'VE STOPPED. I TOLD YOU — YOU CAN'T RUN FROM ME…"

"NOW… DIE."

Just before Badrul's attack could hit Samar, a loud explosion suddenly echoed through the air.

"What was that sound?"

"Oi, you bastard."

Samar clutched his blood-soaked wound, his body swaying from exhaustion and the injuries staining his clothes.

Yet he stood firm before Badrul, eyes blazing with an unyielding spirit.

"Who said I was running from you?"

A second explosion echoed throughout the village, leaving the villagers confused, wondering where the sound had come from.

"Are you trying to scare me with that noise?"

"…Heh, what a stupid plan!"

Just as Badrul was about to attack Samar again, a horde of monsters suddenly emerged from the night mist.

Badrul stared, baffled. He hadn't summoned any monsters to that location.

But what shocked him even more—was that the monsters weren't attacking Samar.

They were attacking him.

"What the hell?! Why are these stupid monsters turning on me?!"

"At last..."

"…my gamble paid off."

Badrul's controller ability worked by manipulating monsters through the rhythm of his heartbeat.

A low frequency would calm the monsters,

a medium frequency would drive them to attack anything in front of them,

and a high frequency allowed them to target whatever he commanded.

The loud blasts created by Badang had disrupted those frequencies, causing Badrul to lose control.

"They figured out how my power works…?!"

"…So that's why Samar lured me out here—to draw me away from Badang, while he set everything up without interruption…"

"Damn it… I walked right into their stupid trap!"

Badrul had no choice—he fled, leaving Samar behind, now surrounded by rampaging monsters.

"You think my power's just about controlling monsters?"

"If I can control them…"

"… I can kill them too!"

Badrul increased the frequency of his heartbeat, causing the monsters—especially the Crawler, whose hearing was far more sensitive than any other creature—to die, unable to withstand the piercing high frequency.

He looked around and realized Samar had vanished.

"FUCK!!"

Badrul resumed his pursuit, chasing after Samar. But time and again, his search was interrupted by monsters that emerged and attacked him.

"Shit... I have to find the source of those explosions before I can deal with Samar."

At full speed, Badrul sprinted toward the place where Badang was located.

Having completed his part of the mission, Badang moved on to the next task Samar had entrusted him with.

Badrul arrived at the location, but he couldn't find Badang—because Badang had anticipated his arrival and vanished beforehand.

"That bastard ran off already?"

Unbeknownst to Badrul, Badang had prepared a trap.

Badrul stepped on a tripwire that triggered the trap, releasing several flashbangs into the air. The blinding light left him temporarily sightless.

The noise from the flashbangs lured more monsters to his location, and they began attacking him relentlessly.

Blow after blow drove Badrul into a frenzy.

"ENOUGH!!"

Badrul unleashed all his strength, brutally slaughtering every monster around him.

Meanwhile, Khai and the villagers who had taken refuge in the hall continued to hold out against the monster attacks.

"Don't give up!"

"Just hold on a little longer!!"

But suddenly, all the monsters attacking them dropped dead at the same time.

Though the villagers were momentarily confused, relief quickly followed—they had survived the monster onslaught.

Jinn, who had been hiding in an abandoned house, saw the monsters outside die off one by one. Without hesitation, he gathered all the remaining survivors and led them to the hall.

Meanwhile, Badrul, having used up all his strength, grew weak from exhaustion.

"Damn you, Badang!"

This moment of weakness was exactly what Samar had been waiting for. Hidden in his spot, he held an AW rifle in his hands.

"One bullet, one chance…"

"…Forgive me, Badrul. But this is the only way I can save you from all the evil you've done."

Samar channeled the last of the Evo-Virus in his body and infused it into the AW's bullet.

"Now go ask forgiveness from those you killed…"

"…Including Nisa."

With tears streaming down his face, Samar pulled the trigger—his hands trembling, his heart shattered, but his resolve unwavering. For the sake of the hundreds of innocent villagers, he had to sacrifice the friend he once considered a brother.

The bullet infused with the Evo-Virus split into hundreds of projectiles, each one holding the destructive force of a tank shell.

Every one of them struck Badrul dead on.

"YOU FUCKING BASTAAAAARD!!!"

Because of the attack, Badrul was left severely injured—only his head and torso remained intact.

Badang emerged from his hiding place and approached Badrul, who lay helpless amidst the devastation caused by Samar's strike. His twin's body was covered in dust and horrendous wounds.

Badang stared at the fallen Badrul with eyes burning with anger, but behind that rage was a flicker of pity for the wounded twin lying before him.

Badrul, catching that look, was disgusted.

"Oi, you bastard. Don't you dare pity me, damn it."

"Why… why did you let it come to this, Badrul?" Badang asked, his voice trembling, unable to hold back the tears streaming down his face.

"Heh… you're asking why I turned out like this? You really haven't changed, Badang. Always caring… always worrying about others, whether they're good or evil…"

"…You wanna know why? Fine… I'll tell you…"

"…All the chaos I've caused…"

"…All the destruction I've brought…"

"…All of it…"

"…It's because of your existence in my life…"

"…Badang."
