Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 : The Veil of Fathom

Moments after Mohamed vanished, the world itself seemed to revolt.

No sooner had the ranks of the Last Silence closed around him than the heavens split open.

Rain crashed down in merciless sheets, mixing with dust, ash, and blood until the earth became black mud. Thunder rolled across the ruined sky like the drums of judgment.

The wind that had once whispered of redemption now screamed only one command:

Run.

Mustafa dropped to his knees in the mud.

His eyes remained fixed on the place where his brother had disappeared, as if he expected the darkness to give him back.

He did not cry.

He simply raised bloodstained hands toward the storm, palms open, like a man asking lightning to strike him next.

Sarah seized his shoulders violently.

Sarah (voice breaking):

"Get up! If he saw you like this… he'd never forgive himself!"

But Omar moved faster.

He grabbed Mustafa by the collar and dragged him upright like a broken puppet.

Omar (roaring):

"Move! Or do you want Mohamed to die for nothing?!"

They retreated into the ruined house.

The survivors sat among shattered furniture and drying bloodstains, breath ragged, clothes soaked through. The room smelled of wet stone, iron, and grief.

Mustafa sat apart from them, silent.

Smoke curled from the cigarette between his fingers.

Rayan stared at him, voice trembling.

Rayan:

"What now? What are we supposed to do?"

Mustafa took a slow drag, eyes distant.

Mustafa:

"I don't know."

He exhaled.

"But we finish what Mohamed came for."

He rose without another word and disappeared into a storage room.

Moments later, he returned carrying sacks and crates:

canned food

vegetables

fruit

children's toys

cigarettes

a bottle of wine

He handed a written list to Omar.

Mustafa:

"These were the supplies you came for."

Omar scanned it quickly.

Omar:

"Understood, Uncle. We'll check it when we get home."

Rayan shifted anxiously.

Rayan:

"And Mohamed? Who leads us now?"

Sarah answered instantly.

Sarah:

"Omar… or Mustafa."

The room erupted.

Adam:

"Omar is reckless!"

Layla:

"Mustafa is broken!"

Rayan:

"Omar knows the tunnels!"

Another survivor:

"Mustafa carries Mohamed's blood!"

Voices collided.

No agreement came.

Then A hiss slid through the cracks in the stone walls.

Not human.

Not wind.

A voice like breath through teeth.

Voice:

"Have you surrendered…?"

Silence swallowed the room.

Again it came.

Voice:

"Or will you save him?"

Adam stumbled backward.

Adam:

"Allah protect us… is that Mohamed's ghost?!"

Sarah ripped out her dagger.

Sarah:

"Show yourself!"

Mustafa crushed the cigarette beneath his boot.

His eyes burned.

Mustafa:

"Weapons ready."

He drew Mohamed's broken sword.

"We move now."

They burst into the storm.

Waiting outside, half-buried in debris, stood an iron carriage from the Old World rusted, patched together, but still alive.

Omar leapt into the driver's seat.

Omar:

"To Tunnel Amal!"

The engine coughed once then roared awake.

As they climbed aboard, Sarah locked eyes with Mustafa.

Sarah:

"Why Amal?"

Mustafa tightened his grip on the broken blade.

Mustafa:

"Because Mohamed's last whisper… was its name."

The carriage lunged forward into the rain.

Behind them, the whisper followed through the storm.

Voice:

"Run, little sparks…"

A pause.

"The Scarred One awaits kindling."

They rode at full speed through drowned corridors and broken roads.

Everyone watched a flank.

Every shadow looked alive.

Sarah reloaded her pistol with practiced calm.

Sarah:

"Conserve ammunition. Fire only on confirmed targets."

Omar aimed into the darkness ahead.

Omar:

"Even God abandoned us."

He smirked grimly.

"Let our violence be louder than His silence."

Mustafa wiped blood from his sword.

Mustafa:

"Save philosophy for later."

Then the earth split open.

Without warning, dozens of spider-like creatures erupted from cracks in the ground.

Their bodies were made of writhing shadow.

Their eyes burned crimson.

Their screams sounded like children choking.

Rayan (panicking):

"What are these things?!"

Adam:

"They're swarming us! Fall back !"

Chaos exploded.

Sarah fired first.

One beast took a bullet through the eye and burst like rotten fruit.

Omar kicked another from the carriage wheel and crushed it beneath the axle.

Mustafa severed a reaching limb inches before it dragged Adam into darkness.

Blood sprayed into the rain.

Steel shrieked.

The carriage never slowed.

Mustafa (bleeding from the shoulder):

"Remember escaping Z-47?"

He hacked another creature in half.

"Child's play compared to this!"

Sarah shot over his head.

Sarah:

"You promised me a date in Paradise!"

Another shot.

"Don't die before paying the debt!"

At last they reached Tunnel Amal.

And found it waiting.

Figures in black lined the entrance with rifles raised.

Among them stood Jeros.

Scarred.

Silent.

Wrapped in darkness like a second skin.

He smiled thinly.

Jeros:

"Welcome… Mohamed's guests."

His eyes glinted.

"We expected you."

Mustafa leapt down from the carriage, sword dripping black blood.

Mustafa:

"Jeros!"

He advanced.

"You betrayed your closest friend, and now you serve his executioner?!"

Jeros laughed a sound like bone scraping glass.

Jeros:

"Mohamed chose martyrdom."

He spread his arms.

"I chose vengeance."

A grin.

"The difference is… I still breathe."

Sarah raised her rifle to his forehead.

Sarah:

"Not for much longer."

Jeros's men leveled their weapons instantly.

Jeros (coldly):

"Halt. Tunnel Amal is forbidden."

He pointed back the way they came.

"Return to your cage in Z-47."

Rayan stepped forward desperately.

Rayan:

"Why? Isn't this our last refuge?!"

Adam peered into the black tunnel mouth.

Adam:

"What danger could be worse than what we've already seen?"

Mustafa and Omar exchanged a look.

Both knew more than they wished to say.

Then The ranks of armed men parted.

A woman strode through them like a blade through cloth.

Black military cloak.

Rain-soaked hair whipping like a banner.

Eyes bright as war.

Fatima.

Fatima (voice like steel):

"Since when do you give orders, Yusuf?"

The name struck like thunder.

Jeros visibly trembled.

He bowed his head.

Jeros:

"My lady Fatima…"

He gestured nervously.

"They wish to enter Amal. The truths inside would burn their eyes."

Fatima brushed past him as if he were dust.

Fatima:

"I care nothing for cowards' secrets."

She looked into the tunnel.

"My husband is there."

Her jaw tightened.

"And I will drag him back from your hell."

Sarah stepped forward sharply.

Sarah:

"How did you find us? Who told you about Mohamed?"

Fatima turned slowly.

Her expression carried insult and amusement.

Fatima:

"You think I am only a housewife?"

She stepped closer.

"I killed warlords before your childhood ended."

Another step.

"I guarded secrets that melt mountains."

Omar sighed dramatically.

Omar:

"Yes… Mother."

Fatima's gaze snapped to him.

Ice-cold.

Fatima:

"You have no idea how many girls died so you could live, boy."

She pointed into the tunnel.

"Or how many nations fell because you never entered the Tunnel of Temptation."

Rayan paled.

Rayan:

"What tunnel?"

Fatima's eyes narrowed.

Fatima:

"A hell that seduces the soul."

Her voice dropped.

"Beings without gender. Beauty so overwhelming you forget faith, honor… even your own name."

Silence.

"They do not reproduce."

She looked each of them in the eye.

"They steal life from those who enter."

Jeros cried out in panic.

Jeros:

"My lady! Enough! This is the secret of secrets!"

Fatima kicked the rusted tunnel gate open with one strike.

The metal screamed.

Fatima:

"You're right, Yusuf."

She drew her blade.

"Move."

The team followed her into the darkness like sparks swallowed by a furnace.

Only Mustafa, Sarah, and Omar hesitated at the threshold.

Inside, the tunnel hummed.

Low.

Warm.

Alive.

Like desire choking on chains.

Then the darkness swallowed them too.
