I saw the shock and confusion in Leonard's face once I admitted to calling the police. I was not surprised, not even in the slightest, especially after I pretended to be hurt by Clara's news. I needed her to feel like she had the upper hand, and stay put.
In his shock, Leonard had moved away from the entrance, giving the policemen room to come in and make their arrest.
I got down from the stairs quickly but with grace. I needed to see the look on Clara's face when the policemen made the arrest.

It was utterly stupid of me to think that she was sorry about what she did, and that she had changed, despite Leonard's disbelief. The look on Clara's face as the policemen closed in on her was just as I expected. Panic and fear.
