"Hello Leonard," Nicole greeted me casually as if she would rather not see me. The glimmer of hope I had a while ago suddenly disappeared. When I first saw Nicole this morning, there was excitement about her or so I thought. It was as though she was happy to see me or maybe I was imagining things.
Last night was the worst night since after Vanessa, and to think that Nicole had not felt uneasy without me hurt like hell. It was as if a heavy blow was delivered on my guts.
"How are you doing?" I asked. The hurt I felt washed off in my voice. Nicole only shrugged, and looked away. Idris left the room silently just then, probably to give us some privacy.
"Can I?" I asked, gesturing to the babies, and she nodded after a brief moment of hesitation.
