Chapter 302 - Chapter 96: The Chakra Cannon Returns

"Understood. Tell Dr. Vegapunk I'll be right there," Kai replied.

"Yes! Vice Admiral White Dragon!" The guard outside immediately responded, not daring to show the slightest negligence as he hurried toward the Science Unit's quarters.

"Wonder how much of that thing's power Vegapunk managed to replicate," Kai murmured to himself, anticipation flickering in his eyes. "Don't need much—even just thirty percent would rival the legendary Pluton battleship."

Science Unit Quarters.

"Vice Admiral White Dragon!" Sentomaru snapped to attention as Kai approached, speaking respectfully.

"Mm." Kai nodded in acknowledgment. "Where's Dr. Vegapunk?"

"Reporting to Vice Admiral White Dragon, the Doctor is currently in Laboratory Seven. He originally planned to conduct tests in Laboratory One, but worried the weapon might lose control and damage the facility, so he changed the final testing location to Laboratory Seven," Sentomaru quickly answered.

Kai couldn't help but smile wryly. Worried about damaging the lab, so he chose a different location? Doesn't Vegapunk realize that if that thing loses control, aside from me, the entire G-1 base would be completely obliterated?

"Alright, let's head to Laboratory Seven then," Kai said helplessly.

Following Sentomaru, they quickly arrived at Laboratory Seven.

The entire facility could hardly be called a laboratory—it was more like a massive plaza, though crammed full of various experimental equipment.

The most eye-catching feature stood in the center—a cannon platform easily over ten meters tall!

A Chakra Cannon!!

No! More accurately—Vegapunk's replicated Chakra Cannon!

Though Kai with Ryūjin Jakka's Bankai possessed world-threatening power, the growth of a faction couldn't rely solely on one person's strength.

Five years ago, Kai had given Vegapunk the Chakra Cannon he'd seized from Kumogakure to study and replicate.

The original required thirty Jōnin-level ninja to synchronously input chakra. But in the One Piece world, where the hell was Kai supposed to find that many ninja!?

So Kai had tossed the Chakra Cannon to Vegapunk, hoping he could develop a weapon usable in this world.

Even the current Kai couldn't claim he could completely withstand its full-power shot!

Absolutely terrifying! To this day, Kai still couldn't figure out how those muscle-brained Cloud ninja managed to research such a devastating weapon.

Beside the Chakra Cannon stood a gaunt middle-aged man—Vegapunk himself.

Seeing Kai's arrival, Vegapunk's eyes lit up: "Vice Admiral White Dragon, you're here! Look! This is the Chakra Cannon I developed!"

The cannon body was entirely constructed from pitch-black ink steel—a material second only to Seastone in hardness in the pirate world. If not for the prohibitive cost of manufacturing with Seastone—even Kai found it somewhat unaffordable—he would've preferred that material. But ink steel was already excellent. After all, even Mihawk's Supreme Grade Blade—Black Blade: Yoru—was forged from ink steel!

Like the original, it featured three barrels. Compared to the original Chakra Cannon, this massive weapon appeared even more ferocious, with a metallic, modern aesthetic!

"Mm, Doctor, approximately how much power does this have compared to the original?"

Kai was quite satisfied with the Chakra Cannon's appearance, but since it was a weapon, its power mattered far more.

Hearing Kai's question, Vegapunk's face showed embarrassment, as if he found it difficult to speak.

Seeing Vegapunk's expression, Kai felt disappointed. Guess the research progress wasn't great. Though for a weapon with this much power, that's understandable.

Patting Vegapunk's shoulder, Kai said: "Don't worry about it, Doctor. Regardless of progress, I'll continue supporting your research."

Vegapunk seemed even more embarrassed, speaking somewhat shamefully: "I've truly failed Vice Admiral White Dragon's trust. But please rest assured, I will replicate the full-power version as soon as possible, rather than just this seventy percent power version."

"Mm, Doctor." Kai nodded.

However, Kai suddenly froze. He looked at Vegapunk with a strange expression: "Doctor, did you say seventy percent power!? Not seven percent!?"

"Yes." Vegapunk nodded, continuing: "Only seventy percent power. Because my research into alternate dimensions isn't thorough enough, progress on the Chakra Cannon's most crucial component—the Space-Time Chakra Cannon—has been very slow, unable to achieve that kind of damage. I could only compensate by increasing the Dispersal Chakra Cannon's power. Theoretically, the Chakra Dispersal Cannon at full power is more formidable than the original. However, considering the absence of the Space-Time Chakra Cannon, it only reaches about seventy percent power at most."

Watching Vegapunk's dissatisfied expression, Kai's mouth twitched. An even more powerful Chakra Dispersal Cannon—even I would find that troublesome. Scientists really are all madmen.

"Heh heh..." Kai laughed dryly. "Doctor, let's test the Chakra Cannon's power first."

"Mm! Alright, what's our target?" Vegapunk asked.

"Target!?" Kai paused, thought for a moment, then spoke calmly: "For the target... aim at the sea area beside the Red Line!"

"Understood." Vegapunk nodded.

As far as he was concerned, as long as they weren't bombarding Mary Geoise, anywhere else was the same.

The two barrels flanking the Chakra Cannon's main body began emanating a pale blue glow. From this glow, even Kai could sense a trace of dangerous energy!

Without any sound, a half-meter-thick laser beam shot forth!

Target—the sea area beside the Red Line!
