Who would have thought that Dragonite's Outrage wouldn't even graze a single scale on Drakloak before it fell into a confused state!
Its body swayed unsteadily, dizzy and disoriented.
"Drakloak, full power Phantom Force!"
Watching this unfold, Jacob knew it was time for Drakloak to strike.
Drakloak's form dove into another dimension, then instantly reappeared beside Dragonite. Its claws, wrapped in Ghost-type energy, launched a devastating attack!
"Dragonite, use Dragon Claw!" Even knowing that Dragonite was already confused, Julia had no choice but to push forward and order it to use Dragon Claw.
"Roar!"
Dragonite tried its best to execute Dragon Claw, but everything before its eyes—the world, the people, even Drakloak—appeared blurry and indistinct, making it impossible to distinguish directions or identify its opponent.
Dragonite shook its head repeatedly, trying to dispel the confusion clouding its mind, but the dizzy sensation clung to it like a persistent parasite, impossible to shake off.
"Boom!"
Drakloak, cloaked in fierce Ghost-type energy, slammed into Dragonite with tremendous force. The already heavily injured Dragonite was now on the verge of collapse.
"Drakloak, finish it with Hex!"
Ghost-type energy surged toward Dragonite from every direction, living up to the move's ominous name—Hex!
The relentless Ghost-type energy drained the last of Dragonite's stamina!
"Boom!"
Dragonite crashed to the ground, unable to continue battling.
"Dragonite is unable to battle. Drakloak wins!"
...
"Jacob!"
"You can do it! You can win this!"
The crowd below erupted in thunderous cheers. With the battle reaching this point, Jacob had finally taken the lead for the first time, thanks to Drakloak's outstanding performance.
"We can see that contestant Jacob's Drakloak secured victory in this Pseudo-Legendary showdown by relying on its elusive Phantom Force move."
"Now contestant Jacob has taken match point. As long as he defeats Julia's final Pokémon, he'll become this year's High School Cup National Champion, creating history in the process."
"Although contestant Julia is temporarily at a disadvantage, the gap isn't insurmountable. Jacob's Charizard took some damage when it first entered battle, and Drakloak is also heavily injured. There's still a possibility for Julia to defeat both Pokémon with her last one."
"It's still unclear who will ultimately claim victory in this battle. Let's wait and see who will win the entire match!"
...
Having overcome the formidable Dragonite, Jacob was now one step closer to the Championship title. He was so incredibly close to becoming Champion.
Just one more battle, and he would be able to grasp the Championship title he had yearned for all this time.
At this moment, Jacob's hands trembled slightly, his heart pounding in his chest.
All the effort he'd invested throughout this journey was finally about to pay off.
Jacob suppressed his inner excitement, took a deep breath, and forced himself to calm down.
Although according to his tactical plan, no matter what Julia's last Pokémon was, he was confident of victory—it still wasn't time to celebrate yet!
...
"Come back, Dragonite. You did wonderfully." Julia's bright eyes gazed at Jacob. She didn't seem fazed by Dragonite's defeat, and a confident smile still graced her face.
"Jacob, your Drakloak is incredibly powerful, but I won't lose so easily. Come on out and witness my final ace!"
"Go, Sylveon!"
Sylveon appeared on the battlefield. The ribbons on its ears and neck fluttered gracefully in the wind, and its star-like eyes were breathtakingly beautiful. Sylveon was one of those Pokémon that combined both stunning appearance and formidable power.
Especially a Sylveon with the Pixilate ability—when combined with Hyper Voice, its damage output was absolutely devastating. With Drakloak's current stamina levels, it definitely wouldn't be able to withstand Sylveon's Hyper Voice.
"Sylveon, Hyper Voice!"
"Drakloak, Curse!"
Both voices rang out simultaneously, and Drakloak and Sylveon released their moves almost at the exact same instant.
Overwhelming Ghost-type energy gathered around Drakloak, draining every last bit of its stamina. Then the Ghost-type energy surged outward like a tangible force, attaching itself to Sylveon like a malevolent curse!
At the same time, Sylveon's Hyper Voice successfully struck Drakloak, but since Drakloak had already exhausted all its stamina and collapsed to the ground, the Hyper Voice didn't have much effect.
"That's the Curse move! It actually used Curse!"
"What brilliant tactical planning! First, have Drakloak defeat Dragonite, then have it use Curse—this completely removes any suspense from the battle."
"For Sylveon, this battle has now become a race against time."
"I don't believe Sylveon can defeat Charizard before its stamina is completely drained by the curse."
...
The Curse move—an eerie and ominous Ghost-type technique.
This move was highly complex. It could function as either an offensive move or a stat-boosting move, depending on the user.
When a Ghost-type Pokémon uses Curse, it sacrifices half of its own stamina to inflict a cursed status on the opponent. Enemies afflicted by Curse will continuously lose stamina over time.
Even if the user's stamina is less than half, Curse can still be successfully executed, but the user will immediately lose its ability to battle.
When a non-Ghost-type Pokémon uses Curse, the effect is completely different—it doesn't consume stamina but instead lowers the user's Speed while raising its Attack and Defense.
Drakloak was a Ghost-type Pokémon, so naturally it produced the first effect. This was why Drakloak immediately lost its ability to battle after using Curse.
...
Once the Curse move is successfully used, unless the afflicted Pokémon leaves the battlefield, the effect will only end when all of their stamina has been depleted.
The reason Jacob hadn't let Drakloak use Curse during its battle with Dragonite was because even if the move had been used then, Julia could have cleared the cursed status by switching her Pokémon out.
But now Julia only had Sylveon left, so it was naturally impossible for her to remove the cursed effect by switching Pokémon.
Now that Sylveon was afflicted with the Curse status, Jacob only needed to stall for time to secure victory in this battle!
...
"Drakloak is unable to battle. Sylveon wins. Contestant Jacob, please send out your next Pokémon."
"Come back, Drakloak. Go, Charizard!"
Mega Charizard Y appeared on the battlefield. At the same time, Sylveon's face showed a pained expression as its stamina continued to drain away.
Losing a quarter of its stamina each turn—how could Sylveon possibly fight under these conditions?
Julia's expression wasn't good either. The moment she saw Drakloak use Curse, she knew her chances of winning this battle had dropped below ten percent.
"Sylveon, maximum power Shadow Ball!"
Julia now had no other choice but to attack, attack, and attack again—racing against time in pursuit of victory!
