Chapter 21 - : The Promise

"Really? You're Li Feng's sister?" the elf asked, a devil's eye quickly scanning the whole of Xuan.

"Go away. I found him first; he's mine." The elf beside Xuan grabbed hold of his body, quickly claiming he was hers.

However, the elf with the crown said nothing and just rolled her eyes. She turned to see her men were still frozen in place.

Then looked at Xuan like he was the enemy here. "Undo what you did now."

"Undo what you did now."

Xuan heard her say again, but she didn't repeat herself. Rewind worked on her, but time freeze seemed to be ineffective on this elf.

So it wasn't like Lan Bai. If the elf was using a charm, then not even rewind would be working on her. So it meant—

Xuan's eyes filled his sockets. She was like Zhao Lan: rewind works, but not time freeze, so the elf in front of him was a fucking Divine Combustion cultivator.

Immediately, Xuan dropped the time freeze technique, and the guards were drowned by the aura emitting from Xuan.

"Apprehend him quickly!" yelled a guard.

Xuan had just gotten a breakthrough to whatever stage he was in, and he couldn't control the aura from the breakthrough. It wasn't a friendly one at that.

Maybe because he didn't use a pure technique; instead, it was a taboo technique. The elf gripped her spear weapon tight.

Giving an interesting look at Xuan as her sister stood in front of him with her hands spread out. "Stop, let him be," said the real Li Feng.

It wasn't because of her sister, but she suddenly liked Xuan. Most of the guards were already at Martial Realm Stage 05, and Xuan was able to freeze them.

On top of that, his pressing aura wasn't something someone at his stage should be emitting.

"But Queen Li Feng, isn't this the demon aura we've been tracking down?"

The head of the guards motioned his men to apprehend Xuan, but they quickly froze and swallowed their balls when she gave them a glance.

"Forgive me, Your Excellency," the man bowed.

And Queen Li Feng returned her gaze back to Xuan and her weak sister. As of now, she disarmed herself, letting Xuan know she wasn't an enemy.

"Please, I am Li Feng, queen of the mighty forest. May I know your name?"

Xuan gently moved aside the elf standing in front of him. He was done with her anyway, and he didn't seem to like her.

Why? Xuan had a taste for strong women. The one he had cultivated with was estimated around early Martial Realm, but this one in front of him—

"Xuan Chen. What's your stage, if I may ask?"

Li Feng chuckled. "He wants to know my stage," she mused, then proudly boasted of her stage. "Divine Combustion Stage 04."

"What?" Xuan stumbled backward a few feet. His heart suddenly stopped beating for almost a minute. Xuan felt fear.

"Come, I would love this conversation to continue at my place. My people also have interest in buying dual medicines."

It was now Xuan remembered his medicine and saw it was on the back of a guard.

"No, he won't come with you. I found him first; he's mine, so go away from us," the elf cried out, as if tired of losing precious things to her little sister.

"Come on, big sist, he's strong, so I can't let you have him now," said Li Feng. She looked at Xuan, stretching her palm forward, then added, "Xuan, if we cultivate together with your third pillar and mine, we can grow strong together and destroy our enemies with no prisoners."

"Don't let her deceive you, Xuan."

But it was already too late. Xuan didn't want to hear the words "cultivate together" twice, or even "grow stronger to destroy his enemies."

"I'm sorry," was what came out of Xuan's mouth, then he took Li Feng's palm. He really felt sorry for her. She fell on her knees, feeling shattered.

Xuan couldn't leave her there, so he stopped and walked back to squat, placing his hand on her hair.

"Look, if you've experienced what I've been through for the past twenty years of my life—not being able to walk and being treated as a nobody..." Xuan's eyes held anger.

Li Feng could tell he wasn't bluffing; he was telling the truth out of pain. "Then any chance you get to crush your enemies, you'll take it... any chance to grow stronger, you'll take it... I enjoyed what we did, but I'm sorry."

Xuan stood up, standing beside Li Feng. The guards had already started leaving the cave, and when Xuan was about to leave, he turned his head to speak again.

"I promise you, when I reach Heaven Combustion, I'll come find you."

"Xu... Xuan," she muttered his name with her broken heart, watching her sister take away her precious stuff—first was her kingdom, and now Xuan.

But that's how life works when you're not strong enough to take what's yours. And Xuan was the most determined when it came to cultivating and growing stronger.

When they completely came out of the cave, it wasn't a spiritual beast they brought—it was a big leaf.

Xuan entered one with Li Feng, holding her by the waist as they gently left the ground and began flying in the air. He kept looking at the cave and had to ask,

"What's your sister's name?" He kept thinking of what he had just done.

She was really beautiful, even far more beautiful than Xue Ming and Zhao Lan combined—maybe even better than her sister.

But Xuan could only make her a promise. Heaven Combustion was the highest level a cultivator could reach.

Many get stuck at Divine Combustion Stage 08—that's the top strongest you could find. Getting past that level requires someone beyond a cultivator.

Probably cultivating with goddesses.

So that promise was like something that could never happen, but it wasn't going to be because of her he'd want to cultivate and grow stronger.

Jeez, Xuan was already obsessed with dual cultivation and growing stronger before that.

Li Feng looked beneath them, seeing the cave. She replied,

"Li Yan."
