Chapter 44 - Chapter 45.

Once, when Ellis was lecturing on high level summoning magic, Nyx was boredly lying by the window, spinning the ring on his finger while lazily watching Ellis on the stage.

When the students were taking notes carefully, Nyx suddenly yawned and casually said, "Your human magic class is so boring, why do you have to memorize these spells?"

Ellis slightly tilted his head sideways and faintly said, "If you're bored, you can leave."

Nyx hooked her lips into a smile and slowly propped up her chin and said, "But if I leave, won't you be missing one of your most loyal listeners?"

Ellis: "..."

When he got back to his dorm from work, Nyx would always be there.

Even if Ellis occasionally had to work late, the lights were still on in the dorm.Nyx would occupy the couch in the living room, or nestle on the windowsill and read abyssal books.

Sometimes, Nyx would lazily raise his head and casually ask, "You're home late."

Ellis put down his book and responded blandly, "Work."

"Work again?"Nyx muttered disgruntledly, "Are you going to die of overwork at this rate?"

Ellis glanced at him, "Demons care about people's health too?"

Nyx bristled, "After all, if you die, I'll lose my contract."

Ellis didn't answer, just casually straightened his desk. But he didn't notice that Nyx was staring at him with a hint if amusement.

It wasn't until one day that Ellis realized that Nyx had become a part of his life.

On that day, Nyx wasn't at the academy or in his dorm.

Ellis prepared breakfast for two as usual, and only realized when he brought it to the table that no one was eating the other portion. He frowned, thinking, "He's in bed again?

But as he reached the door to Nyx's room, he remembered - Nyx had said yesterday that he was going to take a trip to the Abyss and wouldn't be back today. The room was empty, with only a few scattered books and magic props left behind by Nyx.

Ellis stood in the doorway, silent for an instant, then turned away and returned to the table, silently eating his share of breakfast.

Time passed quietly throughout the day.

There were no interruptions from Nyx in class, or his yawning figure slumped against the window.

There were no familiar voices in the dormitory, and no one was bored on the couch flipping through their books. It was so quiet ... that it was a little less than customary.

Towards evening, when Ellis finished his college business and returned to the dormitory, he subconsciously swept a glance at the living room, only to find that it was still empty. He paused, frowned, sat down and continued to flip through the research materials, but for some reason, the books that he could usually concentrate on, today made it difficult for him to focus.

When will the Knicks ... be back? The thought flashed through his mind, and Ellis froze slightly before calmly telling himself that he was only a contracted demon, not one he had to stay around.Still, that empty feeling lingered.

It wasn't until around midnight that the door to the dormitory was suddenly pushed open, and a familiar voice rang out with a lazy smile, "I'm back."

Ellis looked up and saw Nyx walk in with a brisk pace, casually flinging his jacket onto the couch and skillfully sitting down across from him, "You weren't expecting me, were you?"

Ellis calmly turned a page in his book, "No."

Nyx narrowed his eyes, his tail wagging pleasantly, and the corners of his mouth quirked up in a mischievous grin, "Then why do you look like you're relieved?"

Ellis: "..." He paused for a moment, then closed the book and trailed off, "There's leftovers from dinner, do you want some?"
