~ ENTITY 003 ~
Daemun (Dark Entity 003) Classification: Tier 6. (3 Silver Stars).
003 is commonly referred to as a Fyre Hound. In DRENGR'VERE, the character "y" is pronounced as "ea" as in the English word "fear" which is what this Daemun is known for and how it got its name.
DESCRIPTION: 003 is a Daemun with long black fur, two, three, or four red eyes, and an oddity of either, two horns, twin tails, or an extra pair of legs. (They exist in different variants) 003 is wolf-like in appearance and, being a formless entity, 003 cannot be seen unless it has been summoned and is wearing a mask.
Adult males weigh an average of 95kg(209lb) and are an average of 1.75m(5.7 feet) tall from head to toe. Adult females weigh an average of 80kg(176lb) and have an average height of 1.75m(5.7 feet). Females are slimmer than their male counterparts and just as dangerous.
The Daemun's front legs are long and thin and its two front feet resemble human hands; with four, sometimes five, fingers equipped with sharp retractable claws and a thumb. 003 uses its front paws to latch onto its prey tightly and its sharp claws to rip out its prey's intestines.
003 produces a high-pitched click at the back of its throat, which has the distinct sound of snapping bones. 003 uses this click to terrify its prey. 003's clicks are unsettling, eerie, and overall designed to make its prey uncomfortable. 003 has full control over the pitch, tone, and volume of its clicking, and can often trick its prey into thinking that it is further away than it is or change the sound of snapping bones to something resembling the inner working mechanisms of an old clock, reminding its prey that it is only a matter of time before they die and get ripped apart by 003.
At top speed, 003 runs an average of 55km/h(34.19mph). Indefinitely. It never gets tired and does not require rest. It is a relentless predator.
003's hunting method is primarily focused on smell. It is capable of smelling prey over 10km(6.21 miles) away and can even track its prey under the water. 003 can swim better than most of its prey.
NOTEWORTHY OBSERVATIONS: It will not attack unless its presence is known. 003 will announce itself either by clicking or touching the prey with one of its front paws. In the event that the prey flees, 003 will not pursue the prey with the intent to kill, but instead, 003 will amuse itself by toying with its victims.
003's main source of food is fear, so it will do whatever is necessary to ensure its victims stay afraid of it for as long as possible.
After its victim is dead, 003 will rip its corpse apart, however, 003 will not consume its flesh or any part of the victim's body. The Daemun will smear the blood and guts of its victim all over their bodies. 003 does this for two reasons. The first reason is that by wearing the scent of a fresh kill, 003 can show off the success of their hunt to other Daemun around them. The second reason is to absorb the remnants of its prey's emotions still left behind after they have passed.
003 will often hunt with others of its kind. They are not territorial and they can be found anywhere on Ri'elle and Ataraxia'a. They are not found elsewhere or on any other layer. (In other words, if they are spotted on another Layer, it means they have been summoned there.)
TERMINATION: 003 cannot be killed. They can only be sent back to the nether, Ataraxia'a, when their masks have been broken. Of course, when 003 is not summoned and present in the flesh, shattering their crystal will weaken them, but they will not die. They will roam the nether until their crystal regrows, which can take anywhere from a hundred years, up to a thousand.
SUMMONING: 003 can be summoned by engraving the Daemun's full name in DRENGR'VERE onto the skull of a deceased wolf.
The skull must be soaked in white water, dipped in fyre salts (ash left behind from fire spirits after burning ashwood), and boiled in daesmyr oil (extracted from daesmyrahn tree roots that grow in a dry and desolate terrain such as Ski'Mar) before the Daemun's name is engraved.
The blood of the Daemun is required when engraving its name into the bone mask. It is the most important ingredient and the most difficult to obtain.
When summoning, the summoner circles their blood over the name of the Daemun and speaks its name in a loud and clear voice.
When their blood mixes into one, a contract is temporarily formed and the entity is summoned. It will attach itself to the blood on the mask, using it as its vessel, and a body will materialize underneath it.
When the mask is damaged, specifically the summoning circle underneath it, the entity will return to the nether and its materialized body will turn to ash.
003 is capable of speech, however, they rarely choose to converse. The only time they wish to be heard is when they are clicking.
~MORE ON DAEMUN CLANS~
DEMICAUX CLAN: The Demicaux are the firstborn clan of the Daemun and the most infamous. Their crystals burn a deep, blood-red, reflecting their hunger for fear, the most primal and plentiful of mortal emotions. They are unmatched hunters, relentless and cruel, feeding on terror until their prey collapses in despair.
But power bred arrogance. In time, the Demicaux turned inward, beginning to cull their own kind. They sought to unite every Daemun under one crystal, ruling over all clans through domination. Those who refused to join were imprisoned. The Demicaux clan began whispering the true names of these rebels to mortals, knowing that to name a Daemun is to strip them of their freedom, binding them to a master's will.
Cain, once one of their strongest, stood against this practice. To him, the naming of a Daemun was an unforgivable betrayal, a violation of their very existence. He would not allow his people to be enslaved, not by mortals, and not by their own kin. The rift became a war, and from that war, Cain's clan was born.
Cain's followers left the Demicaux, refusing to hunt their own and rejecting the forced unification. They swore never to speak the names of another Daemun and to protect those who had been enslaved whenever they could. Their crystals remain red, making them nearly indistinguishable from the Demicaux to outsiders, but their restraint, their refusal to indulge in needless slaughter, sets them apart.
PETRAEUS CLAN: The Petraeus are a subtle and quiet clan, their crystals are a pale lavender. They feed on doubt, thriving wherever mortals question themselves, their choices, or their purpose. Unlike the predatory Demicaux, Petraeus do not hunt with fang or claw. Instead, they slip into mortal minds, whispering thoughts that twist certainty into hesitation.
They are patient weavers of insecurity, planting doubts that grow over time until they can feast on the mortal's fear of failure or regret. To them, this is an art form and a delicate manipulation of their victims.
Though not powerful in battle, Petraeus are legion. They exist on nearly every layer, their presence a constant hum beneath mortal anxiety. Other clans regard them with a mix of wariness and tolerance, for they rarely interfere in Daemun conflicts and have no interest in ruling others. Their influence is insidious but quiet, rarely noticed until it is too late.
LAOFREID CLAN: The Laofreid are keepers of the wilds, their crystals glowing a deep, luminous green. Unlike most clans, they are not hunters, they are guardians. The Laofreid dwell in forests, glades, and ancient groves, thriving where the mana of the land is richest. They feed on the harmony between living things, drawing sustenance from the pulse of life within the forest itself.
Laofreid are peaceful and cooperative by nature, often working alongside other clans to maintain balance. They are seen as mediators and healers, and it is said that no forest can truly die if a Laofreid makes it their home.
But their patience has limits. When mortals harm the forest, burning it, poisoning it, or cutting too deeply, the Laofreid retaliate with quiet, devastating precision. Crops wither, herds sicken, and famine spreads until balance is restored. Conversely, those who respect and protect the wilds often find themselves blessed with uncanny good fortune, their fields thriving and their homes safeguarded.
Among the clans, Laofreid are viewed as neutral stewards, rarely picking sides in wars or politics. But when roused, their wrath is terrible, and even the fiercest hunters of Demicaux tread carefully in Laofreid woods.
V'VELGRYS CLAN: The V'velgrys are the quietest of the Daemun clans, marked by their cold,azure-blue crystals that glow like moonlight on still water. They are passive in nature and rarely fight other clans, but their relationship with mortals is far from benign.
V'velgrys feed on sadness and despair, and once they find a mortal in pain, they attach themselves to that person like a shadow. Many mortals believe that feeding on their sorrow would lessen their suffering, but the opposite is true. The presence of a V'velgrys deepens a mortal's grief, turning passing melancholy into unshakable despair.
They are long-term feeders, staying with their chosen mortal for years, sometimes decades, patiently drawing every drop of sadness they can harvest. When a victim shows signs of recovery, the V'velgrys works tirelessly to keep them in despair, whispering doubts, stirring grief, and drawing them back into darkness. Many of their victims die by their own hand, unable to bear the weight of sorrow.
When their chosen mortal dies, a V'velgrys moves on to seek another, always choosing those already vulnerable to despair. They rarely hunt in groups and almost never interact with other Daemun, giving them an almost ghost-like reputation among the clans.
Among Daemun, the V'velgrys are tolerated but regarded with unease. They are not cruel for cruelty's sake, but their feeding leaves devastation behind, and the places they frequent grow cold, lifeless, and quiet.
I'ILFYR CLAN: The I'ilfyr are a rare and fascinating Daemun clan, known for their amber-colored crystals that glow like molten gold when they are well-fed. Unlike most clans, the Il'fyr do not feed on fear, sorrow, or primal emotions and instead, they thrive on the hunger for knowledge and discovery.
They are drawn to mortals with insatiable curiosity, inventors, scholars, philosophers, and dreamers. Anyone who burns to know more than what the world has offered them. When an Il'fyr chooses a mortal, they do so willingly, almost reverently, becoming a constant presence as they drink from the mortal's excitement for every discovery and failed experiment. (In other words offer themselves up to be that mortal's familiar.)
Though few in number, the I'ilfyr are extremely territorial about their chosen mortals. If another clan attempts to interfere, influence, or harm their companion, the I'ilfyr will retaliate with calculated precision. They are feared by other clans not for their strength in battle but for their relentless cleverness. An I'ilfyr will twist every shred of knowledge they have acquired into a weapon, using traps, cunning illusions, and devastating strategies to eliminate the threat.
Mortals who attract the favor of an I'ilfyr are both blessed and cursed: their minds race with brilliance, often driving them toward genius breakthroughs, but that hunger never fades. Left unchecked, this obsession can consume the mortal entirely, their body failing from exhaustion even as their mind races toward the next answer.
Because of this, other clans tend to leave I'ilfyr mortals untouched, out of both respect and fear. It is said that the I'ilfyr will never stop hunting those who harm their chosen prey, even if it takes centuries to avenge them.
SYRTH'I CLAN: The Syrth'i are a rare and beguiling Daemun clan, recognized by their pale pink crystals that shimmer faintly like rose quartz when nourished. Unlike most clans, the Syrth'i thrive exclusively on mortal lust and raw desire.
They are drawn to mortals who burn with longing, curiosity for forbidden pleasures, or unchecked appetites. When a Syrth'i chooses a mortal, they do so with deliberate subtlety, weaving temptation into thoughts, dreams, and fleeting desires. The mortal is driven to chase satisfaction endlessly, never attaining it, yet the chase feeds the Syrth'i's insatiable hunger.
Though their influence is subtle, the Syrth'i are exceptionally dangerous. They rarely kill, preferring to let mortals unravel themselves through desire, but when provoked or challenged, they can ensnare even other Daemun with illusions of beauty, allure, and temptation. Their cunning is patient and enduring, often spanning years as they feed slowly, ensuring their chosen mortal is trapped in an endless cycle of craving.
Mortals touched by a Syrth'i are both cursed and transformed: they experience the heights of pleasure, yet never the fullness, leaving them consumed by insatiable desire. Other Daemun tend to avoid Syrth'i mortals, out of both caution and respect, knowing that the clan will relentlessly defend its source of power, even across centuries.
~DAEMUN OVERVIEW~
All Daemun share a fundamentally similar form, their bodies built upon the same skeletal and magical structure. What distinguishes them from one another is not their shape or inherent features, but their crystals. The color, size, and vibrancy of which determine both their power and status within their world.
Daemun are not physical entities in the traditional sense, and are not living beings. At their core, they are sentient mana, condensed into crystals. These crystals are their true forms, the essence of their being, and the source of all power and individuality. Their outward appearance — the humanoid or monstrous forms they present —is an illusion, a dynamic projection shaped by the crystal itself. Larger, more potent crystals allow for more elaborate and imposing appearances, while smaller or weaker crystals produce subtler forms.
These illusions serve multiple purposes: as a declaration of power, a means to intimidate rivals, and a form of advertisement, signaling the strength and vitality of a Daemun to others.
A Daemun's crystal feeds on specific emotions according to clan affiliation, growing and strengthening as they absorb more energy. The state of a Daemun's crystal can fluctuate rapidly, influencing their projected form and even their perceived presence. Observing a Daemun is therefore not just observing a body, but witnessing the visible manifestation of a living, sentient form of magic, a being whose essence is the condensation of pure, intelligent mana.
In essence, a Daemun's true measure is not the body it presents to the world, but the crystal it bears. Strength, status, and even survival hinge upon this core, making every interaction, every battle, and every subtle display of dominance a reflection of the crystal's vitality and the mana that sustains it. This is why Daemun cannot die, because they are not living things and can always regrow a crystal if theirs have been damaged or stolen.
