This woman…this woman…she was the woman that she helped last time…the sassy stranded woman.
She was Lexis' mother? She wished the ground could open and swallow her.
"You…why…what…"
"Do you guys know eachother?." Lexis asked as he averted his attention from his wife to his mother, completely ignoring Emily who would dart her eyes between him and Sabrina.
"Are you not the woman that helped me last time at Cashley's?." Bridget stood up as she questioned Sabrina, whose face was deadly pale.
"I—."
"So you are the gold-digger that married my son?."
Freya squinted her eyes in disbelief. She was the one carrying her mom the day she got robbed and sprained her ankle. How could she turn up to be the wife of Lexis?.
"I didn't know Lexis was your son." Sabrina whispered.
"Mom, I would prefer if you calm down and explain things to me, rather than being dramatic because I'm completely at sea about what's going on right here." Lexis said.
"Humph!." Bridget sat, with displeasure all over her face. Emily, who sat beside her, tried to calm her down, "Auntie, calm down."
"How can I calm down?." She questioned no one in particular.
Sabrina hit her lip. Lexis could feel her mood drop.
He pulled a seat for her and sat her down. Before sitting beside her, he turned his gaze to his mom,
"Mom, do you mind telling me what's going on?."
"Your so-called wife helped me some days ago when I was robbed. She had carried me because I sprained my ankle. Why didn't you tell me that you were the woman that married my son?."
"She helped you? When did you get stranded?." Lexis inquired.
"Mom got stranded while she was on her way to meet you at the company regarding the matter about you getting married without her knowledge." Freya said, staring at Sabrina, who stared back at her.
Sabrina sighed, "I really didn't know Lexis was your son, ma'am. I had no idea."
"You had no idea?," Bridget scoffed, she glanced at the necklace worn on her neck, "maybe you planned the robbery stage so you could turn up as a knight-in-shining armour to save the day for your 'mother-in-law' so I could accept you. If not, why didn't I see this necklace on you that day?."
"Something happened to my neck," she could vividly remember she'd worn the turtleneck top to cover up the hickey Lexis had left on her, "I wore the necklace that day, but the shirt I wore hid it."
"Liar!."
"Mom!." Lexis banged on the table, "Enough, stop being childish."
Bridget seemed like she wanted to say more, but received a signal from Freya and decided to keep quiet. She needed to calm down before Lexis would get mad and leave. Afterall, she hasn't seen her son for five whole years until now.
"Rebecca." She called, and a young maid came.
"Serve the food. The whole family is hungry."
"Yes, ma'am." The maid walked away to get the food.
In less than five minutes, the table was filled up with different kinds of foods—delicious looking foods.
But Sabrina didn't have much of an appetite anymore.
She only picked a plate of Spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread, because Lexis had forced her to.
Bridget didn't speak on Sabrina's matter anymore. Instead, she and Freya talked about Emily's composed character.
"Lexis, didn't you see Emily?." Bridget asked as she sipped on her grape wine.
"I did."
"And you didn't bother to greet her? She flew all the way from Canada just to greet you."
"I didn't tell her to do so. She could have called to greet me." He coldly replied, not minding the ashen look on Emily's face.
Sabrina furrowed her eyebrows. Who was this Emily ? She really seemed to be someone important to them.
"Big brother, sister-in-law always complain that you don't answer or return her calls."
Freya said loudly, purposely looking towards Sabrina's direction.
Sabrina stifled. Sister-in-law.
She took a brief look at Emily. Auburn hair, blue eyes, tall, beautiful, attractive. With the ladylike smile on her face. Could she really be…? After all, there was no resemblance between her and the family.
"Who's your sister-in-law?." Lexis emotionlessly stared at his little sister, who seemed unbothered about his icy looks.
"Of course it's Emily. Who else?."
"Stop talking nonsense," he dropped the fork in his hand, causing it to clatter in the Chinese bowl, "Emily is like a sister to you, same to me. Sabrina that's your sister-in-law."
"I disagree." Freya stood firm on her ground, "Emily has been in love with you for years. She's the rightful person to be your wife. Why are you choosing a rejected fiancée and disowned daughter over Emily?."
Sabrina was so offended by Freya's word she looked only at her thighs. She had mentally prepared for how bad Lexis' family would treat her, but not to this extent.
Any normal woman would have talked back for being belittled like that, but Sabrina was at fault. To marry someone's son without his family's knowledge was bad.
She believed Freya was just being protective of her brother.
The auburn-haired woman —Emily was Lexis' fiancée.
She felt bad with the heartbroken look on her face and the anger Freya was displaying.
Oblivious to her, Bridget was silently observing her behaviour—she found Sabrina quite reserved.
If it were some women, they'd talk right back at Freya or even walk out of there.
But Sabrina sat, composure all over her, though one could sense the unease in her.
She quite liked the young woman. As they say, first impression mattered. Her first impression of Sabrina was a 100%.
Bridget was only mad at the fact that Sabrina turned out to be the woman she was cursing at.
And she was a beauty, Bridget smiled at the thought. With the combination of her and Lexis' beauty, she was sure her grandchildren would have the looks of an angel. A heavenly being.
Lexis got up, "Mom, we are heading home."
He pulled the suprised Sabrina along, "I can't stay here even for a second."
Emily frowned. Was Lexis really ready to leave because of this woman?
