"You have to tell me!" I snapped, my voice rising with anger, though my pulse was hammering in my ears. "If you're hiding it… it must be terrible. So tell me!"
Zane's POV ~
"Like I said, I'm fine," I insisted, my lips curving into a faint smile even though he couldn't see it through the phone. "I just… need fresh air. Different air than what the mansion offers. And besides, you've helped me so many times, Josh. It's only right I return the favor."
"Thank you so much, Zane. I'll send you the address right away. And I'll let my sister know you're coming," Josh replied, his voice now bright with relief, as though a heavy weight had been lifted from him.
"You're welcome, Josh."
I ended the call and slid the phone onto the nightstand. Just as my hand left it, the quiet creak of my bedroom door reached my ears.
My gaze lifted instinctively, my heartbeat slowing into a steady thrum as I watched the figure step inside.
It was Silas.
How the hell did he get here?
