Chapter 269 - The Return

The palace had never been this silent.

Every room, every hall, every breath inside the house was focused on one thing—the screen. The news was everywhere. Every channel. Every phone. Every room.

The same moment played over and over.

A masked man walking toward the seventh door.

A quiet hand resting on its surface.

No force. No chant. No struggle.

The door responding instantly, as if it had been waiting.

And then, the mask came off.

Mirshad.

The man the world had been looking for… had already been standing there.

The living hall was full. Jabir. Malik. Amir. Baba. Mirshad parents. Cousins. Uncles. Aunties. Everyone was present. But no one spoke.

Only the voice of the news anchor filled the room.

"Confirmation now arriving. The man seen opening the sacred door is the same individual the world came to know during the global transformation—MRD."

Someone fumbled with the remote and raised the volume.

One cousin whispered, "He… didn't even tell us he left."

Another stood slowly, eyes glued to the screen. "He was just… there."

The room sat in quiet disbelief.

In another room, Sophia sat alone. The glow from the television flickered across her face. She had been sitting there since evening. Not crying. Not moving. Just watching.

She had seen him leave two mornings ago.

Only her.

No one else was awake.

She remembered how he and Rayyan walked out quietly, no words, no bags, no explanations.

She thought maybe it was a simple meeting. A routine visit. Something temporary.

But now…

She was watching him open a door that refused gods.

Watching him stand as the world saw a miracle.

And he didn't say a word.

Her fingers gripped the edge of her scarf. Her eyes burned. She played the video again.

The hand.

The door.

The face.

Why didn't you tell me?

That night, the palace gates opened slowly.

The hum of the car rolling in was the only sound in the stillness.

Rayyan stepped out first. Then Mirshad.

They walked without speaking.

Same clothes. Same silence. But something invisible had changed around them.

The family waited at the entrance. Half of them stepped forward. The other half… stopped, unsure why their legs wouldn't move.

Mirshad father approached first, wrapped his arms around his son, said nothing.

His mother followed, holding Mirshad close for a second longer than usual.

Jabir. Malik. Amir. They stood near, watching with quiet eyes. They didn't speak either. They remembered what had been said by Rayyan. What was whispered during the rise of the Soul Slayer. They knew something was waking. But none of them dared call it out loud.

Later that night, Mirshad entered his room. He paused in the doorway when he saw her.

Sophia was already inside, sitting in silence. She turned slowly when she heard him step in.

She didn't smile. She didn't run into his arms.

She just looked at him. And asked softly,

"You opened it… with just your hand. Do you know why?"

Mirshad sat on the edge of the bed, shoulders heavy.

"No."

She walked forward. Stood beside him.

"You touched it. And it opened. The world saw it. Didn't you feel anything?"

He let out a slow breath.

"I felt… like the door knew me. But I didn't know it. Like I had been there before. Like something deep inside me recognized that place. But I don't remember why. Or what it meant. I don't even know if it was me… or something else acting through me."

Sophia's voice cracked.

"So even you don't understand what you're becoming?"

Mirshad looked up at her. Eyes honest. Confused. Still holding that quiet pain.

"I know I'm changing. I know something is watching me. Moving through me. But I don't remember who I was. I only know who I'm trying to be now."

Sophia knelt beside him.

"Then don't change alone. Don't carry it by yourself. Whatever it is… let me walk beside you."

His voice was low.

"Always."

Outside, on the upper balcony, Rayyan sat with Jabir, Malik, and Amir. The night was cold. But the fire inside them was warmer than anything.

They didn't talk for a long time.

The world was still burning with questions.

But they were burning with something deeper.

Rayyan finally spoke.

"He touched the door. And even he doesn't know why it opened."

Jabir replied, "That's what makes it more real. It wasn't planned. It wasn't controlled. The door… just knew."

Malik looked at the sky.

"If the door answered to him now… imagine what the stars will do later."

They all went quiet again.

Because deep down, they knew—

The world saw a miracle.

But the miracle still didn't understand itself.

And that made it even more dangerous.

Even more sacred.

Even more real.
