Chapter 2 - First Day of the School Year

(A/N: Prologue chapters coming soon for more about who Ryu Park is and etc. The first chapter is out! Things like the N group and etc will be explained later on in the story, so don't care too much about it!)

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of knocking. Once again, it was the supervisor lady from N group.

Yawning, I asked, "Do you need something?"

She replied flatly, "No. I'm just here to give you some information before I leave. Take these papers and review them. It's a list of all the 'bosses' you need to beat. The boss of the school you're heading to is your first target. Save it, destroy it, do whatever you want. Goodbye."

She handed me the file and walked away.

"...What a strange woman," I muttered.

After getting ready, I ate breakfast and reviewed the first paper.

I mumbled to myself, "Name's... Kang Taeyang. He's 185.4cm, about 6'1, and weighs 84 kilos (185lbs). Kickboxer. Participated in a bunch of open-weight tournaments, usually places first, and when he loses, it's a debatable second place. So I'm bigger, but he's clearly a solid fighter... This should be fun."

Outside, a driver waited by my car. It felt like overkill. I still couldn't wrap my head around how a seemingly low-level project was getting this much funding and attention from a huge company. The driver opened the door for me, then drove in silence.

After a long, quiet ride, he finally said, "We've arrived, Mr. Ryu Park."

"Ah, thank you! Have a great day," I replied, still a little akward about the whole experience.

I stepped out, closed the door, and watched as the car sped off.

I made my way to class, and found my desk vandalized. Ink and paint splattered across the surface.

I sighed, set my stuff down, and turned to the three kids from yesterday. They were clearly laughing, doing their best to pretend they weren't.

I approached the one I knocked out yesterday and placed a hand on his shoulder, squeezing tightly.

"Hm? What's so funny, friend?" I asked with a smirk.

He stopped laughing immediately, stiffening as he slowly turned to face me. "N-nothing... did something happen?"

Without another word, I grabbed the back of his shirt and jacket, yanked him from his seat, and threw him down at mine.

"Here's your new seat," I said flatly. "Hope you like it. I'll be taking yours."

"What?! Hey! That's not fair. It's not my fault your seat ended up like that!"

I shot him with a sharp glare. "Then whose fault is it? You guys were laughing. No one else has a problem with me. So, either whoever did it goes and sits there, or you clean it up. If you do, maybe I'll graciously give your seat back tomorrow like the kind soul I am."

With an annoyed grunt, he grabbed his stuff and swapped chairs. "Just wait till the boss gets here..."

Right on cue, the classroom door slid open.

The three of them immediately lit up. So this must be him, Kang Taeyang.

A guy walked in, tall and lean. He looked around, then called out, "Who here is named... uh... Ryu Park? Yeah, Ryu Park."

We made eye contact. He started walking toward me.

"A new face. Must be you. Heard you roughed up my boys the other day. May I ask why?"

I shrugged. "I don't know. What'd your boys tell you?"

He laughed. "Man, look at this guy. Alright... truth be told, they said some big dude came in here acting like the boss, all brawn and no brain. So naturally, to defend my authority, they-"

"Do you always talk this much?" I cut in. "Whatever. I suppose it doesn't matter how it happened, but just know your 'pals' decided to pick a fight with me. Not my fault they were 'all brawn and no brain', but I see where they get it from..."

He clenched his jaw, clearly irritated.

"...Oh, I see. Big misunderstanding. Mind joining me on the rooftop later? I'd like to sincerely apologize. With my boys of course. Class is starting, so... see you soon."

He walked off with a sinister grin on his face, and his 'pals' were visibly uneasy.

The first few classes weren't as hard as I expected. Eventually, lunchtime rolled around.

I headed up to the rooftop, where I was met with a group of about six people. Taeyang stood in the middle, walking past me without a word until he tapped me on the shoulder and leaned in.

"I don't take kindly to disrespect, you see," he whispered. "And it's obvious what you're trying to do. But you're not going to usurp my authority as king around here. I'm not ready to pass that on yet. If you really want a fight, well... beat those five guys in the back first. Good luck!"

He burst into laughter as he walked away, waving his hand.

I sighed. "Man... I was really hoping to move on already. Alright, whatever. So... what do you guys want to do?"

The three kids from yesterday weren't among them. These guys were third years, and they weren't subtle. Metal bats and bars hidden behind their backs, slowly being drawn out.

At once, they rushed me.

It wasn't my first time dealing with a group, but I still wasn't confident enough to take them all on at once. I had to pull them apart and fight from a distance like I usually do.

The first two were easy. I kicked the first in the side of the knee, hard. The second swung a metal bar at me, but I ducked under it and nailed him with a clean uppercut to the jaw. He dropped immediately.

The last three decided to group together, realizing my plan. They surrounded me, forming a triangle.

I could've escaped right then, but that'd defeat the purpose of my mission here.

The one on my right lunged with a bat aimed at my head. I blocked with my forearm. Even with my muscle absorbing most of it, the impact still rattled my bone. I felt something crack, most likely a minor fracture.

The other two came at once. One targeted my ribs, the other my back. The bat targeting my ribs, I re-directed by hitting it from the side and tensed my back to absorb the second blow.

The moment they began winding up again, I immediately countered. Not proud of it, but I kicked one of them in the balls... there's no shame in a survival fight. With the other two still close, I grabbed their heads and smashed them together.

They dropped like rocks, straight to the ground.

I turned and bolted for the stairs in case Taeyang was planning to report me to the teachers or principal. Fortunately, the bell rang, and it was time to return to class.

I suppose I'll have to deal with him tomorrow.
