Chapter 27 - CH........22

Reader, let's take a break from all this.

You may have a lot of questions.....

One of them might be: what does this have to do with the tower???....

What does anything have to do with anything?...

I solely tell you this story to make you understand what illusion is... and how it works....

Maybe there's a connection — but does it matter right now?????

What does an apple have to do with gravity?

The story itself might be bigger than the event of discovering gravity.

You can ask whoever you want, and almost immediately they'd know — they'd connect Newton to an apple, then to one of the greatest equations in human history: Newton's Laws of Motion.

"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."

But ask them about the gravity equation... What is The Universal Gravitational Constant?

Nothing. Silence.

It's like the story is the discovery — not the reality.

We've talked a lot, dear reader.

Don't forget — we or... I.are still in the tower, telling you this story... on the table...

Your friend disappeared. I'll get them back to you.... Don't worry...

I may be evil — but not that kind of evil.

Let's hop in to know what happened with Arthur...

Arthur lost something after the incident, he just wondered after seeing his sister's husband bleeding out after holding him, after he lost his breath...

Arthur was covered in his blood, he let him go and stood up and just left....

He wandered the street without a destination, kept walking and walking. The locals called the police after seeing him covered in blood. Surely after, he was arrested.....

Two detectives interrogated him to ask about the blood — who is it, and did he do something to someone, the usual movie thing. Anyway, he said, "I killed them, I couldn't rescue...."

That was enough to make the detectives want to oversearch the city..... to find out what this lunatic did.....

Not long after, they verified his identity. They knew there was a case being reported earlier that day.... The person in charge of this case, his name was Eliot.

Eliot learned by chance that there's a person in the station saying he might be the reason of unliving someone.....

So, of course, he decided to connect the case he had in hand and the person who said he did the same terrible thing...

Not to talk about the complications, but he finally reached him...

He recognized Arthur right away....

He asked him a lot of questions, but Arthur was in another universe...

Then Eliot said, "Well, we both know you didn't harm anyone..... So why are you saying so?"

Arthur looked at him and said, "I couldn't save him..."

Then Eliot said, "How?"

Arthur: "I don't know."

Eliot: "Did you know that the event was today?"

Arthur: "No."

Eliot: "Did you know it was happening in that place?"

Arthur: "No."

Eliot: "Then the plan..."

Arthur: "No."

Eliot: "The person who did it?"

Arthur: "No."

Eliot: "Then tell me, how would you stop something you know nothing about?"

Arthur: "I do... I don't know."

Eliot: "You shouldn't blame yourself. You need to find someone to help you process this. You're not thinking clearly.... Someone who understands who you really are... Like your wife, or a friend, or even someone who knows what you're going through — who was there with you from the beginning..."

Right there, Arthur was alive again.

Someone who was there from the beginning...

Martin!!!!.....

Martin... was with him that day, in the fountain — maybe he could help.....

Eliot discharged him from the station, according to the footage of him arriving right after the event took place, while the real suspect ran away.....

Arthur bought something to wear and turned his way to his last resort — Martin.

I don't know if you ever felt like that before, but have you ever gone to some place — or to someone — and everything is awfully quiet?

I don't know if it's your senses on alert or something…

But you could hear your heart pounding, or there's this annoying noise in your head, similar to the sound of a whistle…

Arthur was feeling exactly like that when he was about to arrive at Martin's place.

He arrived at that big place — beautiful, bla bla bla… Arthur was led in by one of the servants, and soon after, Martin and his wife were ready to join him.

He greeted Martin and gave him a forced hug, telling him that he missed him. Then Martin introduced Arthur to his wife.

And for less than a second, Arthur remembered the reason why he hated Martin — he was married to a beautiful white girl that Arthur had loved back in college… and Martin had stolen Lola from him.

After Martin asked, "Do you know her?"

Arthur replied, "No."

Arthur forgot about it immediately — but not the feeling. That was one of Martin's wishes, both a con and a pro…

Even with this strange feeling of despise, Arthur told Martin there was something he wanted to talk to him about.

They went somewhere private, and Martin's wife made them both something to drink, then left them alone.

Arthur: Do you remember the fountain — and the wish we both made? Well, I thought it didn't work then…

He told Martin everything — from the first day he saw the numbers, to the death of his father-in-law, to his sister's husband… along with what the numbers could represent.

Martin took a deep breath and said, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Arthur: I know it's a lot to take in, but I don't know what to do.

Martin: No, no — that's not what I meant. I just don't remember something like that.

Arthur: What? You were there! Remember when you hit that invisible object and you were terrified — but then you calmed down after drinking from the fountain?

Martin: Was I with you back then?

Arthur: No, you weren't— wait… what? No, I said you weren't ! What's going on… Martin, what did you wish for?.....

Martin noticed the first flaw ever, but didn't understand what caused it. He was confused.

Arthur: What did you wish for? Why am I saying something that isn't true?

Martin: I don't know what you're talking about. Do you… need help?

Arthur: Are you saying I'm crazy?

Martin: I'm just saying, I don't remember what you're talking about.

Arthur: No! You have to remember. You don't know what's at stake here!

Martin: I'm sorry, I can't help.

Arthur stared at him for a moment, or to be more specific he was looking at the painting of the fountain behind Martin, it looked identical, no it was the same.....

Then Arthur asked him, "How did you rise to this status?"

Martin: It was hard… I did, I did, I did, etc.

Arthur: I considered you as family. Despite the skin color.

Martin: I'm grateful for that… we're the only family left for each other.

Arthur stood up to leave and said, "Ed is past tense… liar."

And then he took off — leaving behind Martin, who stood there looking at him…

with a number floating above his head.

The only difference between the number above Martin and the one Arthur saw earlier was that Martin's numbers were counting down.
