At exactly six o'clock, Luther carried a large basin of beaten eggs down the hallway and knocked on Mai's door.
Hearing his voice, Mai hurriedly threw on her clothes and opened it.
She froze.
From inside the egg mixture, a tiny Milcery peeked out curiously, her liquid-like form glistening under the soft hallway light.
For a moment, Mai was speechless. Then she lowered her head, stared closely at the little Pokémon, and whispered as if entranced, "So cute… so, so cute..."
The commotion immediately drew attention. Aside from the perpetually blank-looking Slowpoke, every other Pokémon in Mai's room scrambled forward, crowding the doorway to get a better look at the newcomer.
"Milcery?" Mai tilted her head. "From Galar, right? I think I've heard about them... but aren't Pokémon eggs from there almost never seen outside the region? Something about… special reasons?"
Her confusion was mirrored in Luther's expression.
"Cynthia must've known what this egg was," he muttered. "When we returned to Hearthome City, she actually called just to tease us about it. Figures she already had the news back then."
Mai crouched down and carefully checked over the Milcery. The little Cream Pokémon didn't seem to be in any serious danger—just a few minor scrapes from breaking out of the shell. Compared to the frail Poliwag that had hatched before, this Milcery was in surprisingly good shape. Though clearly tired, a proper meal had already restored most of her energy.
It wasn't hard to guess the reason for the long incubation. The contrast in climate between Sinnoh and Galar likely forced the egg into dormancy. Now that it had finally hatched, all worries faded.
Of course, this wasn't the legendary Pokémon Luther had secretly fantasized about, but as he watched the sweet little Milcery wobbling before him, he couldn't bring himself to complain. Her evolutionary line was exactly the kind he favored anyway—gentle, playful, and undeniably charming. That was more than enough.
After finishing her food, Milcery looked noticeably livelier. Her body shimmered faintly, and the sweet aroma she gave off grew stronger, curling around the room like the scent of freshly whipped cream.
Both Luther's and Mai's stomachs rumbled audibly. They swallowed, sharing an awkward glance.
"Take care of her for us," Luther told the room's Pokémon. "Mai and I are heading out for breakfast. We'll be back soon."
The moment the door closed behind them, the Pokémon exchanged a collective silence—and then surged toward Milcery.
Startled at first, Milcery quickly realized they meant her no harm. Her body bobbed excitedly as she welcomed their attention, emitting another burst of that sugary scent.
Kirlia reached her first, gently cradling the tiny Pokémon who was no larger than a teacup. Milcery responded by puffing out a richer fragrance just for her. Kirlia's eyes glimmered, and her heart melted instantly.
Espurr crept closer, eager to see the newcomer. With some reluctance, Kirlia finally let Milcery go, and Espurr happily lifted her onto her head.
The little cream Pokémon tugged at Espurr's soft fur, clearly entertaining the idea of building a nest there.
Before she could decide, Chansey reached out, plucked Milcery from Espurr's head, and snuggled her against the egg she carried.
Milcery practically glowed. Nestling into Chansey's warm embrace, she rubbed her face against that soft belly and released an even sweeter scent than before, as if declaring her affection in the only way she knew how.
Chansey had only stroked Milcery a few times when Jumpluff bounced into view, cotton puffs swaying with every hop, and landed neatly on Chansey's head.
The drifting puffs instantly caught Milcery's attention. Wide-eyed, she craned her tiny body upward, fascinated by Jumpluff's fluffy orbs swaying above her.
With a gentle bounce, Jumpluff hopped down onto Chansey's egg, lowered her body, and nudged Milcery forward. The little cream Pokémon clung to her, and then—like a soft breeze carrying petals—Jumpluff drifted off, floating them both gracefully down to the floor.
Milcery squealed with delight, the thrill of flight etched in her gaze as she looked up at Jumpluff adoringly. Understanding that look, Jumpluff hopped lightly back up, landing on Chansey's head once more with Milcery secured, before taking her on another gliding descent.
But before they could enjoy a third ride, Eevee brushed against Jumpluff insistently, eyes sparkling with pleading excitement. Jumpluff hesitated, but eventually gave in to those irresistible eyes, setting Milcery down in Eevee's care.
Eevee crouched low, tail swishing playfully. Pachirisu joined right in, their two fluffy tails flicking back and forth like feathery lures.
Milcery bounced in place with glee, reaching desperately for them. Each time she got close, the tails flicked away, softly booping her on the head instead. It didn't stop her determination—in a burst of effort, she finally latched on, dangling adorably from their fur as they carried her around like a tiny pendant.
Watching this chaos, Corsola sighed heavily. With a thump, she rubbed against the wall, dislodging a freshly shed coral horn. Gently, she rolled it toward Milcery, intent on giving the baby a toy to play with.
But Corsola underestimated her strength. Milcery's hands, smaller even than Marill's stubby arms, couldn't even lift the hefty coral piece.
Seeing this, Chikorita walked over with curious eyes. She grasped the horn with her Vine Whip and waved it enticingly in front of Milcery. The little one squealed, rushing to snuggle against her instead. Startled but touched, Chikorita lowered her body to let Milcery get closer.
Milcery tried her best to jump onto Chikorita's leafy head, but her two tiny attempts ended in pratfalls. Amused, Chikorita carefully wrapped her Vine Whip around the baby and lifted her high.
Milcery wriggled midair, bursting into carefree giggles. Seeing how much she enjoyed dangling, Chikorita abandoned the plan to set her down and instead began gently swinging her back and forth, as though rocking her on a breeze.
Kirlia clasped her hands together, nodding in admiration. "Chansey has found her successor."
Eevee smirked and flicked an ear toward Corsola. "Better than a certain somebody who thinks giving babies rocks is fun."
Flustered, Corsola let out a muffled whimper, grabbed onto the curtain with her teeth, and retreated behind the fabric to sulk.
Meanwhile, Marill waddled forward, shyly signaling that she wanted a turn. Chikorita obliged, setting Milcery down and stepping aside.
Milcery blinked at Marill. Something about those round eyes made her shiver with recognition—memories of seeing them right after hatching.
Marill rubbed her face, embarrassed, as if to explain: she had been half-asleep at the time and hadn't meant anything scary. Her apology was clumsy but sincere, and Milcery—innocent as ever—accepted it easily.
Lifting Milcery carefully into her arms, Marill paused. Her cheeks puffed slightly with realization. Compared to earlier... Milcery's face looked so much bigger now.
Marill leaned close and whispered, barely audible, "Just one lick…"
Before Milcery could react, a damp warmth spread across her cheek. Then another. And another.
Marill licked her repeatedly, sighing with unrestrained bliss as the sweet, creamy taste sank in. This time, she committed the flavor to memory.
She didn't get to savor it for long.
With a protective cry, Chansey charged and Headbutted Marill across the room, sending her tumbling until she lay sprawled at the doorway.
That was the scene Luther and Mai walked into as they returned from breakfast.
A dazed Marill pointed weakly toward the door, then slumped to the floor, fainting in defeat.
