Sepharos once known as Kyle slowly opened his eyes.
A faint echo of voices filtered into his mind before vision even returned."Are you sure it's awake, Silver Wolf?" a woman's voice asked. It was smooth, confident, tinged with fatigue.
"Yes, Kafka. It's awake... I think. The console says it is," replied another voice, younger, sharper Silver Wolf.
A sigh. "Alright, let's just get this over with," Kafka muttered as she turned her attention toward the central console of the room.
Sepharos remained still, his eyes flicking around beneath his helmet's visor, silently watching.
The room glowed dimly, screens and devices pulsing with soft lights. At the center stood a containment system a strange, radiant orb floating within. The Stellaron.
Silver Wolf approached the terminal and tapped through several commands. A holographic screen flickered to life, revealing two faces side by side one, a silver-haired girl; the other, a silver-haired boy.
"Elio says this decision will change everything," Kafka said, gazing at the images.
"He also said you have to be the one to choose," Silver Wolf replied, passing the screen to her.
Kafka studied the images silently. Then, with deliberate motion, she reached out and picked the girl.
"How much will she remember?" she asked without looking away.
"They'll remember you," Silver Wolf answered plainly.
Kafka nodded, and in one smooth movement, pressed the Stellaron into the girl's chest. A faint pulse of energy rippled through the room.
"It's time for her to wake up," Kafka said softly.
The girl stirred, her fingers twitching slightly. Her eyes fluttered open, cloudy and confused."…Kafka?" she whispered.
A warm, knowing smile touched Kafka's lips. "Good. So you remember me."
Silver Wolf said nothing, simply watching.
Kafka knelt beside the girl, speaking gently, but firmly."Listen. Right now, you're in a daze. You don't know who you are, why you're here, or what you're supposed to do next. You think you recognize me, but you're not sure if you can trust me."
She shook her head and continued."None of that matters right now. What matters is this you're going to be left alone on this space station. From now on, don't worry about your past. Don't doubt yourself."
Kafka stood, lifting her chin as her voice grew more certain."In the near future, you'll face danger. Hardship. But you'll also find something incredible. Friends who'll feel like family. Journeys that defy imagination. Elio saw it all."
She glanced down again."By the end of this road, every mystery that haunts you now will be answered. That's the future Elio foresaw for you."
She paused for a moment, then smiled again."Do you like it?"
She turned to leave, her coat swaying behind her."The next stop… we pave the way, one golden thread at a time. A tapestry of fate. All we can do is add to it."
Silver Wolf's voice broke the silence."How much longer? The Astral Express crew will be here soon. We can't be seen."
Kafka nodded. "Just one more minute." She looked over her shoulder at the girl one last time."Someone will find you. Just go with them. You won't remember much except me."
As she walked away, Kafka left her with one final message."When the time comes to make a choice… make the one you won't regret."
The girl's eyes fluttered closed again, slipping back into unconsciousness.
Somewhere in the darkness of space, voices stirred.
"Weren't the coordinates sent from the space station?" asked a man's voice, confused.
"Who cares?" a woman replied with a scoff. "They're here and alive. Do they look like mannequins to you?"
Meanwhile, Sepharos sat in stillness, hidden from their view his mind awash in system data, flashing memories, and a letter left behind by that strange, disembodied voice he'd heard before.
"This is only the beginning. Read everything. Understand your limits. Your path is a divergent one. Stay alert."
His inventory flickered before his eyes: weapons, armor status, system diagnostics. Everything was functional, but he could feel it something had changed. This universe wasn't static. Fate here moved like a thread being tugged.
He exhaled, softly muttering to himself.
"…And so it begins."
