Cole thought for a moment and began using his energy to purify the tree's energy.
As more Special Ability energy flowed into the Ganlon tree, his brow furrowed. The tree's energy diagram was incredibly complex. At this rate of bit-by-bit purification, it would take ages to bring it up to the standard of a normal fruit tree.
Just then, he had an inspiration — what if he used Psychic Power to guide the Special Ability energy? Would that improve his efficiency?
Acting on this thought, Cole began guiding the energy with Psychic Power, drawing on the control techniques Caitlin had taught him. Gradually, he attached Psychic Power to the Special Ability energy.
Though the theory seemed simple, the practice proved challenging. Working with pure energy, rather than physical objects, made control far more difficult.
Cole closed his eyes and concentrated intensely as he projected his Psychic Power outward. After considerable effort, he managed to attach a single thread of Psychic Power to the Special Ability energy, though the effort left him drenched in sweat.
Without Caitlin's thorough teachings, he doubted he would have discovered such an effective control method on his own.
After this initial success, his work became smoother. As time passed, he attached more and more Psychic Power to the Special Ability energy.
Next, Cole attempted to split both energies. He divided his Psychic Power into two streams, using them to control two streams of Special Energy. These streams traversed the tree's diagram, purifying its energy.
Initially, he struggled to control even two streams of Special Energy simultaneously, much less use them for purification.
But Cole was no quitter. Drawing on Caitlin's teachings, he persisted in controlling the Special Energy, willing it to follow his commands.
Time crept by as he stood motionless beside the Ganlon Berry tree.
Alfred and Lily, returning from the orchard, were puzzled to see Cole standing so still.
"Brother Cole..."
Just as Lily started to approach him, Alfred pulled her back. Seeing her confused look, he shook his head and said, "Cole must be busy with something. We shouldn't disturb him."
Understanding, she quickly covered her mouth and tiptoed away with Alfred.
Finally, after persistent effort, Cole mastered control of the Special Energy using Psychic Power. He gradually split his Psychic Power into multiple streams — first two, then four, and finally eight.
With each split, controlling the Psychic Power became increasingly challenging.
Though he wished to create more streams, his Psychic Power and Special Energy were still too weak — eight streams marked his current limit.
Using these eight streams of Special Energy, Cole organized, purified, and compressed the energy within the tree's diagram. This increased his work efficiency eightfold.
Working at such high efficiency for the first time, he became engrossed in purifying the Ganlon tree's energy. He lost track of time until dizziness suddenly overcame him, forcing him to stop.
He braced himself against the tree trunk, nearly falling — a clear sign of Psychic Power exhaustion.
Daisy, who had just returned from the courtyard, witnessed this and rushed to steady him, asking worriedly:
"Garde~ Garde~" — What's wrong? Baby, are you okay?
Cole waved his hand and said, "I'm fine, just exhausted my Psychic Power and feeling a bit dizzy."
"Garde~" — You scared me!
Relieved by his response, Daisy helped him sit on a nearby rock.
Looking at her, Cole had a sudden inspiration.
He could establish a Psychic Power connection with his mom — if he borrowed her power while working on the Ganlon Berry tree, perhaps he could maintain his efforts longer.
After all, if Daisy could borrow his Psychic Power for battle, he should be able to borrow hers for work.
Still, Cole decided not to rush into experimenting — his head was spinning, and he needed time to recover.
After a while, his dizziness faded and his Psychic Power returned to normal.
He turned to Daisy, "Mom, please help me with something. Let's establish a Psychic Power connection — I want to see if this might help me work longer."
She agreed immediately, extending her hand.
The moment Cole took it, mother and son formed a spiritual connection.
The Psychic Power link felt strange. Though he couldn't tell how his mom experienced it, he sensed their minds synchronizing. He could even catch glimpses of her unconscious thoughts.
Like "My baby is so handsome!"
With the establishment of the Psychic Power connection, Cole's power grew notably stronger, and he resumed splitting it.
Amplified by Daisy's Psychic Power, he managed to split his original eight streams into sixteen.
Though he could create these additional streams, he found he could only control twelve of them effectively. The remaining four refused to bend to his will, suggesting his mastery of Psychic Power still needed refinement.
Accepting his current limitations, Cole merged the four uncontrollable streams back into the others, focusing his efforts on the twelve he could manage.
Working with these twelve streams of Psychic Power not only enhanced his efficiency but also improved his endurance.
Time flowed steadily until dusk approached, when Cole finally opened his eyes. Throughout his work, both the Pokémon and children had left him undisturbed.
Just as he was feeling satisfied with his progress, Daisy suddenly exclaimed.
"What's wrong, Mom? Is everything alright?" He asked anxiously, concerned their Psychic Power connection might have caused problems.
To his relief, Daisy joyfully announced that her Psychic Power had increased slightly. Though modest, the improvement was unmistakable.
"Can working with a Psychic Power connection actually strengthen it?"
Intrigued, Cole quickly assessed his own Psychic Power and was delighted to find it had grown stronger as well.
Such a noticeable increase from a single session was remarkable. Even if each gain was small, daily practice could lead to extraordinary results.
But what had caused this growth? Was it the Psychic Power connection itself, Cole's Special Ability, or something unique about their individual powers?
For now, Cole couldn't be sure.
Still, this was an unexpected blessing — training while working truly was efficient.
His excitement continued to build.
