After the party last night I slept until noon the next day, Makorav let me sleep in the guild but he said I would need to find my own place soon. I knew he was right so when I was finished eating breakfast I started to brainstorm, I didn't want to live in town and I had enjoyed spending time in the woods on my way here. I also knew that I would have to learn a lot if I wanted to build my own house. But when that thought crossed my mind I felt like an idiot, I had a pokemon that would help immensely. "Timbur" I summoned one of the other fighting type pokemon I had worked on during my journey here. After I was attacked by that first vulcan I wanted a way to get stronger myself so I used Timbur as an experiment.
When I first designed Timbur I only made the pokemon itself as I figured Timbur could use any old log for its weapon. Hopefully I would be able to upgrade the weapon, using magical materials I would be able to provide him with Item like boosts. But after the first fight I decided to go in a different direction, organic weapons that could grow with the pokemon. After Timbur fully formed I knelt down and placed my hand on its shoulder, "Timbur I want you to find some land in the woods and start building a house. Make sure to come back by lunch." After I stood Timbur saluted and ran off, but when I turned around I jumped in surprise. Many of my new guild mates were crowded behind me with many trying to shout out questions.
"THAT'S ENOUGH YOU BRATS!" Once they had quieted down to a reasonable level the master turned around, "Now Alex, can you tell us what that creature was?" I deadpanned at the master, I could see that he was just as curious as the others; he just hid it better. I had to gather myself before I started to explain, "That was one of my pokemon, monsters I designed and using advanced projection magic allows them to be more than just a fancy light show." I was interrupted before I could continue when Natsu jumped up, "Do you have any strong ones I can fight?" He got a little too excited and his hair lit on fire, it only extinguished when Erza slammed her fist on his head and he hit the floor; out like a light. While Natsu was the first to ask, the rest of the members also wanted to see some of my other pokemon.
After I explained that I could only summon two pokemon at a time or I could summon each one for a short period. They discussed it for a minute and asked me to introduce all of them. I agreed happily, eager to share my accomplishments, but when I reached for the next pokeball I wasn't sure which one to pick first. So I went in order, starting with the first one I designed, "Turtwig". A glow manifested before fading and in its place was a green turtle, before I could introduce it a squeal echoed from multiple sources. Turtwig was startled and retreated into its shell, there was a groan of disappointment at that and I took the chance to explain. "Each pokemon has its own nature and Turtwig has a relaxed nature. He is startled by loud noises, if you are quiet you may be able to coax him out of his shell."
Most of the squealers nodded in udder seriousness and crouched down, talking quietly and trying to coax him out of his shell. They weren't having much success so I offered some advice "Its nature also determines the food it likes, Turtwig likes sour foods." A couple of people rushed into the kitchen and came out carrying different types of sour treats. Part of the intelligence program I made was the ability to have preferences, food was one of them and they could get energy from food as well. After a few offers Turtwig was coaxed out by a handful of cranberries and while it was snacking Cana picked it up. Turtwig panicked for a moment before calming down, looking around in surprise at the sudden change in height. I was disappointed, but not terribly surprised that I was now unable to show off the rest of my pokemon.
Since I wasn't able to show the rest of my pokemon I decided to grab a job, Levy had mentioned that you don't need magic to complete low level jobs. When I saw the board I realized that the F-class jobs were more like chores, chores that would take a while to complete, but chores nonetheless. I chose a job for helping an old man with his shopping and brought it to the master so he could sign off. When I brought the job to him he was surprised, "Can you do this job while your pokemon are summoned across town." I nodded, "Distance does not matter much, once they are summoned I only need to keep the pokeball near me. While I can not keep them summoned from across Fiore, inside Magnolia is no problem." He looked impressed and signed off on the job, "I am glad you are so hard working, just be careful not to exhaust yourself, if you develop magical exhaustion it will take days or even weeks for you to recover."
I laughed when he said, "I know, it happened to me a few years ago. I definitely don't want to experience that again" He looked surprised for a moment before giving a chuckle at that, "Well, as long as you're aware." He signed off on the job after that and I left the guild, excited to start my first job. The job was more fun than I thought as the old man I was helping had a lot of stories about his time spent traveling in his younger years. Though I knew he was exaggerating by a mile, if his stories were true then he once beat back an invading army all by himself with only his trusty ladle and soup pot. When I finished escorting him home he signed off on the job and offered me the option of coming back next week for the same job. I accepted and left, my magic was starting to run low and I knew I needed to get back to the guild for lunch.
While I was walking back I actually met Timbur a couple streets away from the guild, using gestures he explained that he had found a piece of land. He had started to clean out the clearing but hadn't made much progress before he had to start heading back. When I arrived at the guild's door I dismissed him and walked inside. I had to laugh when I saw Turtwig, he looked like he had been through a lot while I was gone. He perked up when he saw me and wiggled out of the arms holding him, running towards me and collapsing at my feet. I dismissed him and ignored the moans of disappointment. I made my way to the bar and ordered lunch, while it was being made I turned in the job flier the old man signed, only to be flabbergasted when he suddenly burst into tears. After he calmed down he explained that most of the guild members were rambunctious and rarely completed a job without some sort of incident.
When I heard that I rolled my eyes and went to get my lunch. It did not take me long to eat and my magic had not recovered yet so I took out my pokedex. Before I could start working on my pokemon a voice came from behind me, "What's that?" I turned around and saw Levy trying to look around me at the pokedex, "It's my Pokedex, I use it to design and improve my pokemon." She looked interested so the next hour was spent answering her questions, as we spoke I made sure to ask questions about her magic as well. When I heard about solid script magic I came up with an idea to try some day, turning Unknown into my personal runic alphabet. We kept talking until my magic recovered and I summoned Timbur again telling him to continue with his work and to return by dinner.
When I finished I wasn't surprised to see the same guild members surrounding me with pleading eyes. I sighed, "Do you want to see a new one or Turtwig again?" They backed off at that and got into a huddle, treating this as though it was a decision of great importance. After a minute of discussion they decided on a new one, this time I used my normal type pokeball to summon Eevee. Once she was summoned I got out of there as quickly as possible, this Eevee had a naughty nature and liked to pull pranks. I rushed to the job board and grabbed another flier, leaving before I could get caught up in whatever antics she would no doubt cause.
This job was a cleaning one and I had no trouble completing it before dinner. I made my way back to the guild slowly, deciding to explore the town while I had time. I had enough magic to last for another hour before I needed to get back. The sun had started to set so the town was much calmer and there weren't as many people around. I made my way down some of the main streets and decided to try some food from the various food carts. Each cart had a mixture of scents that teased my nose, some were so strong they burned my sinuses while others drew me closer. In the end I decided to have some cider and noodle soup with plenty of meat added as toppings, I finished the meal with a crepe filled with cream and fruit. By the time I had finished my stomach was stuffed and I headed back to the guild. When I reached the doors I could hear the chaos inside and hesitated to enter, I was sure what I was hearing was caused by Eevee.
I opened the doors slowly and peeked inside, Erza and Mira were fighting in the center with Natsu and Gray fighting off on the side. I didn't see Eevee until my eyes followed a guild member the Ezra sent flying and saw her sitting in the rafters. I watched as I saw her snickering at the chaos she caused, and when I looked for the master I saw him sitting on the bar. When our eyes met I could see the laughter in his eyes and I relaxed, he didn't seem angry so it was fine. I turned in my flier and dismissed Eevee, I ignored the chaos behind me and went to the library Levy mentioned my first night. I had a couple of ideas but I needed more knowledge to make them into a reality. I looked around the library for the rest of the night before going to bed, I hadn't found what I needed yet but I had barely scratched the surface of what the library contained.
The next week followed the same pattern, I would wake, eat breakfast, and summon two pokemon. Timbur would work on my house and a new pokemon to introduce to my guildmates, most were met with wonder though the cute ones had the most fans. The longer I went without summoning the same pokemon twice, the more impressed the master became. He asked how many I had but I refused to tell him, finding amusement in the pout he would give me every time I refused to answer. While my guildmates played with my pokemon I would complete my first job of the day, usually some sort of delivery or assistance job. When lunch arrived I would dismiss my pokemon and eat, Levy left for a job after my second day so I would work on my pokemon while I waited for my magic to recover. After my magic recovered I would summon Timbur and another pokemon before grabbing another job.
Most of the time I would be busy until dinnertime, but when I finished early I would explore the city. The third time I explored the city I found a cafe that made a very addictive cup of hot chocolate. I would walk from the cafe to a small bookstore I found nearby and read while I sipped the delicious drink. Once it was time for dinner I would either grab something at the food carts or head back to the guild. After I ate I would spend the rest of the night going through the library until it was time for bed. Soon after the first week passed I reached the point of being able to keep three pokemon summoned at once.
I was excited because I would be able to have my own space sooner if Timbur worked on the house while the second pokemon worked on the yard. So the next day I summoned Timbur and Aron. Aron would be able to use rock tomb to move rocks and metal claw to plow an area for a garden. Other than summoning a third pokemon I continued with my usual schedule for the next couple days while I waited for the house to be finished. After the house was finally finished I took a day off from jobs to buy necessities, like furniture, cooking implements, and cleaning supplies. I summoned Machop, Aron, and Pidgey to help me carry everything to my house. I was eager to see it as I hadn't wanted to go until it was all done. I walked with Aron while Machop and Pidgey raced back and forth, each one taking a few things every time. By the time I arrived with Aron they had already brought the rest to the house and stacked it outside.
Timbur had cleared a path from the main road as well so I had no trouble finding it, but when I entered the clearing I was shocked. It was beautiful, a small log carbon with a garden behind it only caught my attention for a moment. The scenery was what drew my eye, the clearing was surrounded by trees and there was a small stream just beyond the clearing. I was going to love it here. Once I snapped out of my daze I gave Aron a pat for a job well done and turned to Machop so I could dismiss him so I could give Timbur my thanks. But when I turned around I saw Machop and Pidgey in an argument about who carried more, I rolled my eyes and dismissed them both. After I thanked Timbur I spent the rest of the day setting up my home, only missing the books I planned to collect over the years to fill my empty shelves. Once I was done I headed back to the guild. I wanted a house but I knew it was important to interact with people so I would try to not spend too much time holed up there.
Life continued and a year after I joined the guild I was ready to take my first B-class job. F-class were chores, E-class jobs required me to fight animals like wolves or bears, D-class put me up against things like a single forest vulcan or similar magical beasts. C-class jobs were mostly non magical bandit groups or small groups of magical beasts, and B-class were large magical beast extermination jobs. These took longer as I not only needed to find and fight multiple beasts but I would need to travel further as well. When I looked over the job board I decided to take a job exploring an abandoned lab. It belonged to a wizard who died while experimenting with his magical plants. I took the flier to the master and he gave me permission to go.
"You are more than ready for this, as you have improved massively since you came here." I blushed and smiled at his praise. By studying the magic of my guildmates I had been able to make 5 more pokeballs. It cost me most of my savings to buy enough Mythril but it was worth it, now I had 15 more pokemon to choose from. I had also massively increased my magical reserves over the past year and was able to keep 6 pokemon summoned at once. Once I reached that point I started to work on making them more powerful instead of summoning more. The easiest way to do that would be programming more powerful moves into their repertoire. Now I was ready to take my first B-class job and it seemed like the guildmaster thought so as well.
I left the town and summoned a pokemon, "Abra" who appeared to be asleep even inside the pokeball. I woke him gently and asked him to teleport me, "Can you take me to Bunus Town?" Abra nodded and in a flash I was 100 miles away and my magic was cut in half, it was a rather steep cost but it was worth it. When I first started working on more powerful moves I thought of a way to get to and from jobs quicker as the higher rated jobs caused me to travel further distances. It was lucky that I only needed to look at a map to teleport and not actually have to visit a place before I could teleport there. I made sure to teleport outside of town so as to not to startle anyone. I made that a habit after I was knocked on my ass for teleporting home and appearing right in front of Erza. I walked into town and asked for directions to the mayor's house. I needed to check in before starting my job.
When I arrived I was let in quickly, "Welcome Legion! We are glad you accepted our request." I smiled a little at the nickname, it was given to me by Sorcerer Weekly after a job that required me to summon 10 different pokemon at once. After that job they looked into my job history and I received adulation for my impeccable record. I was also known as the only wizard in Fairy Tail able to do a job without massive collateral damage. Those two facts caused every job Fairy Tail received to come with a note asking for the Legion to take the job. After a month of completing personal request jobs every time the demand became too much and I told the master I would no longer accept jobs based on personal request.
Even though I didn't accept jobs that asked for me personally, clients were still happy when I did choose their jobs. The mayor was all smiles when he explained the job, "We had a rather old wizard in this town that practiced plant magic and allowed the town to sell some of his successful experiments. The experiments merely produced food that tasted better but some he also had some with small healing effects. Unfortunately it seems like one of his experiments went rogue and killed him. I sent men to check on him when we hadn't heard from him in a while. When they came back and told me what they saw I was worried that it may spread to the town. The job is to stop the creature from spreading. As a bonus, we would like you to bring anything you can gather about his experiments to me so I can see if anything he left behind may help us."
I understood the job and why he gave the bonus, as anything I found would be one last golden egg to improve life in the town. This town was known for its berries, jam, and pasties, I had even heard the rumors of magical berries able to heal wounds. After the mayor finished expanding on what the people had seen I left for the wizard's home. He lived on a farm a little ways out of town, so it took me about an hour to find the place but once I got there I saw the problem. I could no longer see his house as it was completely covered in moving vines and when I started to get closer the vines started to reach out towards me. The townsfolk had said the house had been filled with the vines but they could still see the actual house, I could not. I stopped and simply watched for a moment, if this was all there was then this would be a very easy job. I stepped back from the vines that had gotten a little close for comfort and summoned a pokemon, "Charmander, use ember."
I watched as the flames spread, burning most of the vines to ash; but the fire stopped spreading when the vines became denser. I guessed the water content was too high for the flames to burn, so I summoned another pokemon to help, "Whismur, use echoed voice." Whismur's voice blasted out and tore up the vines and I told Charmander to use ember again. It took a while and drained another quarter of my magic before the vines surrounding the house were completely gone. I entered the house expecting more vines but due to Charmander's flames heating the stones the house was made of the vines had been baked. Most of the vines were already dried out so I had Charmander burn the ones that were still moving. Once I finished I started to explore and found an old withered corpse laying on the bed, it seemed like he had been asleep when the vines got him. I searched around the house for information, luckily the papers were only singed so I was able to take most of them back to the mayor.
When I made it back to the town the mayor was worried to see me, "You're back already? Is everything alright?" I gave a smile at his concern, "No need to worry, while the wizard did die because of his experiment, it wasn't due to being dangerous but merely due to bad luck. He had been sleeping when it got him." The mayor visibly relaxed at that and gave me a sad smile, "Thank you. Did you happen to get anything from the house?" I gave him everything I gathered and he was ecstatic to see everything I found, "Thank you so much for this, for your bonus would you like some of our signature berries and jam or would you rather have some seeds?" I was stunned that they would be willing to give me seeds as I thought they would guard those with their lives.
The mayor saw my reaction and explained, "The wizard was very protective of the most impressive of his berries, he only let us grow the normal berries on our own and all the ones that have magical effects would need to be grown by him personally." I nodded as I understood their generosity now, good food was one thing but magical food would be another thing entirely and could make the town much more money. "Alright, can I have seeds from all the berries you have?" The Mayor nodded without hesitation, "I will even send you seeds from the magical berries after our first harvest." I stood and shook his hand, "That is more than enough payment for me, you can keep the reward you posted on the flier." After we finished our business he gave me seeds for all the berries they could currently grow and promised to send the others once they could. I teleported back home eager to plant my new berries in my garden that so far had only grown regular vegetables.
After an hour I had finished planting the berries so I made my way to the guild. The master was happy to see I hadn't caused any damage again and I left him to his day drinking. Meanwhile I went to the library to work on the next step for my magic. I had noticed that some of my summons had reached the limit of strength they could achieve and I was looking for a way to break that limit. I had an idea but it was going to be difficult to achieve. Each pokemon consisted of a magic circle that contained every bit of programming that made up that pokemon, from their behavior and intelligence to the different moves they could perform. I wanted to take that two dimensional circle and turn it into some sort of three dimensional shape. Hopefully that will allow the pokemon to evolve into the next stage, but unfortunately was very difficult to do so as every aspect had to be perfect with no deviation. Any mistake would cause the whole thing to collapse and I would have to start over from the beginning.
Over the next month I would take a job every morning and work on my project every evening. I was making progress but I still had a long way to go, I had figured out that building the shape would need three intersecting circles. But connecting them was a problem with my current equipment, so I stopped working on that and instead I upgraded my Pokedex with a Mythril coating. This would allow me to project my designs so I would be able to see the three dimensions while I worked instead of working on each one and then trying to connect them. The projection of my magic circles did not need a lot of mythril so I used the rest to project the first version of my pokemon. Now that they were only projections without strength I was able to keep them summoned using a fraction of the magic power needed to project their battle forms. So I let them hang around the guild during the day, this not only made everyone happy but it allowed my pokemon to learn and grow without needing to battle.
Once I finished the upgrade to my pokedex it was much easier to finish my project as I could actually see where the circle intersected instead of doing it from memory. A week after the upgrade I finished the first evolution and I couldn't wait to show the guild. But when I showed them only a few were impressed as not many truly understood what I had done. Levy freaked out when she understood what I had done and the guild master fell off the bar the first time I summoned the evolved pokemon. "You actually created a 3 dimensional magic spell!" I was surprised that he was so stunned as I had read about these circles before. "While 3 dimensional magic spells are not uncommon, it is rare for someone so young to do so, usually it takes an extraordinary amount of control and experience to succeed."
He gave me a smile at that, "I am so proud of you my boy and I can't wait to see what you'll accomplish in the future." I blushed at that but I was quickly dragged away by Levy in order to talk about what I had done. The two boys that had recently joined the guild gave me a glare when they saw her dragging me behind her. They had formed a team with her when they went on a job together and she saved them from their own impulsiveness. Since then they had developed a crush on her and didn't like how close we were. I spent the rest of the day shooting theories back and forth about how far I could take this magic. She thought someday I would be able to make complex shapes out of the magic circles but I wanted to go in a different direction for my next evolution.
